Shannon just did a search for 'Gentoo' as an interest on LJ and found there are 7 communities that list 'Gentoo' as an interest. The Room is one of them. :) Ross, Marty, Shannon, Alex, Peter, and I also list it. Yeay for us making a up a part of 200 people. I suppose that's actually fairly exclusive on something as big as LJ.

Also -- would anybody else like to help Cimmy and Marty and myself by dressing up as the fourth incarnation of Daler Mehndi from Tunak Tunak Tun for the Psi-U Halloween Party? How about you, Chad?

Alright-O. Your job: March your patootie over to http://www.ljmatch.com and take the Sexual Compatibility Test, and then post your loverly results here.
To make things happy and, um, not baffling, cut the people in your result who aren't part of theroom out of your results.
(Yes, I know this is silly, inaccurate, and pretty much wrong and dumb on all levels. Whatever. Humor me because I find it humorous.)

Edwin McCain is performing at Erskine on Saturday, 25 October. The cost is $10 and all proceeds are going to a childrens' charity whose name I forget. I'm planning on attending because I'm all about helping the chillens and I like Edwin McCain's music. No advance tickets; everything's at the "door". It'll be outside, under the Towers.
Come, come, come!

The Red Elvises are playing tomorrow at The Masquerade. You can't argue with "Kick-Ass Rock 'n' Roll From Siberia" -- so many style points, it's hard to capture just how cool they are. They have sort of a surf-rock thing going on, with undertones of Eastern European folk music... because they (with the exception of their drummer) are Russian. So if you're reading this, it's pretty much obligatory that you come with us (Marty and Corey and myself).
There's still time to get advance tickets :) Anybody want to go to this?

I hate it when there's nobody sitting on The Couch. It's like the entire world is empty.
On the other hand, I love it when I'm sitting here going "Where the hell is Ross? He's not online!" and then I think to check the webcam, and there he is, laptopless and on the couch. "Oh. Found him!"

Has anyone met Chad's new chick yet?
I'd come see you guys, but it's only eleven AM and I'm sick (I haven't yet finished infecting the inhabitants of Apartment #1).

I keep hoping against hopes that somebody will come sit on it.

Okay, I spent about 4 hours today trying desperately to get Apache and Tomcat to work together. It may end up that the webpage will be moved from Apache all together and just run on Tomcat so we have JSPs running. This way, we'll have dynamic content and an actual backend to the whole thing.
In other news, Mike has been working on getting the webcam operational. The current plan is to take Bonzo (aka the PPOS) and move it to the living room. And either, get the webcam working in linux, or (more likely) remove anything of value off it, install windows and have it as the webcam server. The added bonus of having a windows box in the living room should be obvious to anyone who has ever played worms.

The room is now being served on the 2x200 from Ross' room (w00t). I updated it to make an 'add quote' page so we can be uber lazy bums about adding quotes all it needs to work is a dynamic back end -- this is up to ross since he knows about linux and stuff and I don't.
short post shorter you say? ok then: pcharky rocks but doesn't roll

Well, the server is now up and online. Currently, it is routing for my desktop and doing a fine job of it. This week's plans are to attempt to get some content up on the site and perhaps transfer some of the responsibility to Pcharky (the name of the server)

Hooray! The major problem of the server has now been solved. It should be up and hosting the the-room.org by next week. Then, comes the funness of actually making the webpage do anything interesting.
Things to work on:
Setup networking permanently. Setup routing Setup users Transfer files to host Setup the webcam Setup the printserver Setup mailserver

Oh yeah. And you might notice (at least, those of you who care about LJ styles) that I've used S1 instead of S2 to do it. If anybody wants to tackle S2 and make it better, you're more than welcome to have at it... let me know and I'll give you administrator power.
