Blimey, this place is quiet these days! Any London-based glam kids still here? There's a rather smashing monthly glitter night in Islington called GlamRacket, and they're having a BOWIE SPECIAL TONIGHT, to celebrate the Dame's 65th birthday this weekend. Thought you lot would like to know... https://www.facebook.com/events/256430431082663/

| A pair of Fabulous Biba-esque shoes |
[March 15, 2011 @ 4:26am] |
I just bought some fabulous fabulous shoes from amazon... on sale mind you ($25 for a pair of them... awesome)... and I felt obligated to share the gorgeousness. They have fringe on the back! Fring!
Clearly I'm over excited.

| The Biba Look |
[March 08, 2011 @ 8:42pm] |
I'd really like to see more photos of the Biba look, as I'm a huge fan of glam but I just don't have the right look to pull off the androgynous glitter space alien thing very well, so I work to look like silent film gypsy thing.
Also, does anyone have any shopping recommendations?

| Glam as a Feminist Statement |
[March 18, 2010 @ 8:48pm] |
So I wrote this little essay awhile ago, it's about glam metal (the 80s stuff, though some of my points apply to earlier glam as well) has interesting connections to feminism.
Now, before I make my point, I'm going to need to give a little aside on what I mean by feminist. I do consider myself a feminist, because I believe women should have the right to vote, not be raped, and men and women should be allowed equal rights in most circumstances (meaning that basically people should be allowed to have equal freedom of choice, whether you want to go for a career as a home maker, or a rockstar or a rocket scientist, you go and you work for it, and I hope regardless of your gender/sex you get where you wanna go).
( More of my rambling non-linear thoughtsCollapse )

| Salutations... |
[March 07, 2010 @ 11:16am] |
Err...this is my first post to a community so I feel a little nervous. But I was just thought I should drop in and say HI because you're definitely my favourite community so far...I just wondered if there's much going on around here anymore, because there should be! Here's a picture for your time and trouble, I hope it's suitably glam.

| It seems I look intrinsically pinupy... |
[October 25, 2009 @ 11:36pm] |
Well I guess I can't fight it, I just seem to look intrinsically like a classy dame from the fifties... *grumbles* when I try for 70s/80s glam chick I end up looking either like Stevie Nicks or the villain from an 80s cartoon... or it just ends up reverting to 40s pinup. Suggestions? (some of these show me with a cigarette, for those of you who might want to warn me about my being a bad influence, or the dangers of the habit, I don't smoke... those pictures were taken to explain to the artist who's drawing my graphic novel (the brothel between worlds, if you're interested) how my main characters hold their cigarettes)
( Unreasonable retronessCollapse )

( My first attempt at glam make-upCollapse )
I'm not really sure what my inspiration was, mostly just fooling around with some of the eyeshadow pallets I had in my purse while at school. I'm pretty satisfied with how the eyes turned out, but I know the cheeks look pretty off. Other than that, what do you guys think? Any pointers on how I can improve (other than the obvious MOAR GLITTER)?

| Specimen- Glam Deathrock |
[April 03, 2009 @ 1:27pm] |
Because this is supposed to be a communtiy about Glam fashion and music. (anyone else tired of the random ads?) Here's a brilliant group most of you probably haven't heard of (unless you were a Batcaver or into goth). Specimen Started the Batcave night club in the early 80s which was home to the Deathrock scene. They had a real slant towards dark glam music and stage theatrics. You've got to appreciate the Rocky horror-ish get up :) and... I happen to think the Lead singer. Ollie is gorgeous in his fishnet get up! Mmm...

| Ziggy striped coat |
[March 28, 2009 @ 12:33am] |
I love this coat. It's black and white faux fur. For faux fur it's very silky. I bought it at a thriftstore a few years back for $1.99! It reminds me of the lovely black and white suit jacket bowie wore. it was finally cold enough here to wear it. We've had 60-70 degree weather all winter! The past few days we had a blizzard. Mountain weather is lovely and random :)

| Glam rock Pillows |
[February 14, 2009 @ 8:43pm] |
I have soo much great vintage material sitting around so it was perfect for these sorts of projects. Each pillow features hand sewn designs symbolic to each artist. The Bowie Pillow has Lightning bolts, a red mullet, and a lovely black pleather platform boot. The Marc Bolan pillow has two Top hats, a Purple feather boa, a White Swan and lots of colourful stars! All the material is vintage even the striped material on the back (that used to be a 70s dress!). Some of the fabrics used are Polyester, Cotton, Pleather, Suede, and vinyl.

| Some Thrifted Glam Rock Fashion |
[January 20, 2009 @ 7:20pm] |
This is what I call my Marc Bolan Sweater. I made it a few years back. It's bright and goes great with satin bellbottoms! I buy all of my clothing from the thriftstore. Where do you find your Glam rock clothing? ( I love to Boogie..Collapse )
