Suspicious Tree? What?
There's a building I pass each week on the way to a class. Outside the building is a camera. In front of that camera is a slim tree. Yes. The camera is facing, directly, a long, thin tree. Makes you wonder, doesn't it, what the tree's up to exactly......
So what is this?
A creative writing community. Mostly fiction, mostly original. But I encourage all forms of writing and hope to try a little poetry occasionally and I will allow fanfiction if that's what people want.
There are topics I'm uncomfortable with.
No worries. We have a list for topics people want warnings for.
How do we do this, then?
I'll post an exercise once a week. The ones that go well will be tried again in the future and, of course, people can look through the masterlist and try things as and when they please. We will also have the chance to workshop each month. Members will have one week to write/choose/post a story. Everybody is then given two weeks to read and give feedback. The final week is used for revising. If needs be, the edited story can go up again the following month.
WORKSHOPPING IS NOT MANDATORY. But If you post your exercises publicly, expect responses. If you really DON'T want feedback for them, please let everybody know. But remember, you don't HAVE to change what people tell you. This is a place for ideas, the story is ultimately yours do with as you please.
Where are the exercises coming from?
They'll come from my old univeristy course, my brain, members, books and the internet. Any ideas that specifically belong to a person will be credited to them.
Anything else?
As the group grows, we'll look at booklists, reviews and recommendations. We might also venture into general textual analysis of styles and genres and lord knows what else. I, personally, would like to study things like formal letter writing to be used in fiction and life in general.
But don't worry. There's no activity check, you don't have to participate in everything, you can invite outside influence. This is all just for getting ourselves writing and experimenting :) This place is new and in the test phase. Just have fun!
