Find Ask Gemini

You can connect with Gemini in Chat in a few different ways.

  1. On your computer, open Google Chat or Gmail.
    • In Gmail: On the left, click Chat.

Use Ask Gemini to start and use Sessions

You can manage your conversations with Ask Gemini by starting new sessions to keep discussions focused on single topics. Sessions help organize your interactions and improve the clarity of Gemini's responses.

To start or open a session:

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

    Tip: Learn where to find Ask Gemini in Google Chat.

  2. To start a new session:
    • In the message field, enter a new question or prompt.
    • Select one of the suggested topics displayed at the top of the chat interface.
  3. To open a past session: Select the desired session from your recent conversations.

When a session opens, all chats from that conversation will be displayed and stored together.

Use Ask Gemini to answer specific questions

You can find information and get a unified knowledge base across the entire workspace or search the web with Ask Gemini. Since Gemini keeps your context across conversations, you don’t need to provide specific details every time you ask questions.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “Find me the deck about [Project Name] that [Person’s Name] shared with me last week.”
    • “Give me the latest update on [Example Topic].”
    • “What did [Person's Name] ask me last week about [Example Topic] and when am I meeting them next?”
  3. Click Send .

Tip: We include citations to note the source of the Ask Gemini’s information.

Use Ask Gemini to prepare for your day

You can ask Gemini for your action items at any time, and it’s based on the most recent information.

To ask for your action items:

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, enter a prompt. For example, “What are my action items?”
  3. Click Send .

Use Ask Gemini to draft communications

You can use Ask Gemini to draft email or chat responses.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “Draft an email to [Person’s Name] summarizing our progress on [Topic Name].”
    • “Refine the following chat message I am sending to [Person’s Name]: [Paste your draft here]. Make sure it’s professional and concise.”
  3. Click Send .

Use Ask Gemini to generate a Google Docs document

You can use Ask Gemini to create a Google Docs document.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “Create a meeting notes agenda.”
    • “Generate a draft with a response to this email.”
    • “Create a quick project coordination doc with a 30/60/90 plan section.”
  3. Click Send .

Use Ask Gemini to generate a Google Slides presentation

You can use Ask Gemini to create a fully editable presentation in Google Slides with a single prompt.

Note: This feature is available through Gemini Alpha (for work accounts only, and enabled by your organization), and Google Workspace Experiments, a trusted tester program for users with personal accounts to try new AI features. Learn more about Google Workspace Experiments.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, describe the presentation you want to create. For example: “Create a slide on quantum computing for a general audience with a modern design.”
  3. Optional: To give your presentation the same style as an existing slide deck, you can use @<presentation name> to reference it. For example: “Create a presentation based on @old_project.”
  4. Click Send .
  5. To refine your presentation plan, you can answer Gemini’s follow-up questions. You may also find recommended sources that you can add for Gemini to use as it generates your presentation.
  6. Click Next.
    • Keep the tab open until Gemini generates your presentation, which may take up to several minutes. You can switch to other tabs or windows, but do not close the existing tab.
    • Once the presentation is generated, you can open it in Google Slides to view and edit. Learn how to generate presentations with Gemini in Google Slides.

Use Ask Gemini to generate a Google Sheets spreadsheet

You can use Ask Gemini to create a Google Sheets spreadsheet.

Note: This feature is available through Gemini Alpha (for work accounts only, and enabled by your organization), and Google Workspace Experiments, a trusted tester program for users with personal accounts to try new AI features. Learn more about Google Workspace Experiments.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, describe the spreadsheet you want to build. For example:
    • “Create a sheet to track my monthly expenses with columns for date, category, amount, and notes.”
    • “Create a table for a project tracker in Google Sheets with columns for task, assignee, deadline, and status.”
    • “Create a 10-day itinerary for a first-time visitor covering Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka.”
    • “Create a visual dashboard in Sheets of this sales data.”
  3. Click Send .

Use Ask Gemini to manage tasks & show suggested to-dos

You can use Ask Gemini to create and manage tasks and ask questions about your tasks. This includes suggested to-dos from chats and emails that need your attention.

Note: This feature is available through Gemini Alpha (for work accounts only, and enabled by your organization), and Google Workspace Experiments, a trusted tester program for users with personal accounts to try new AI features.   1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “What tasks do I need to do today?”
    • “Add a task to complete the project proposal today.”
    • “Change the date of that task to tomorrow instead.”
    • “Mark the Friday workout task as complete.”
    • “Delete that last task.”
  3. Click Send .

Use Ask Gemini to generate images

You can use Ask Gemini to create an image from within Chat. The image can have any specific style, setting, or subject.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “Generate an image of a futuristic workspace in an ultra-realistic style.”
    • “Create an image showing the team welcoming our new sales lead.”
    • “Create a colorful icon for [Project Name].”
  3. Click Send .

Use Ask Gemini to generate catch up summaries

You can use Ask Gemini to help you catch up on specific topics, unread messages, and emails.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “What did I miss on [date or topic]?”
    • “Summarize some of the latest updates in [Space Name].”
    • “Catch me up on unread messages.”
  3. Click Send .

Use Ask Gemini to schedule, manage, or find events

You can use Ask Gemini to schedule events, reschedule or delete existing events, find open time slots, or check calendars for availability.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “Create a 30 minute meeting with [Person’s Name] this week.”
    • “Schedule 1 hour of focus time for me this week.”
    • “Reschedule meeting with [Person’s Name] to next week.”
  3. Click Send .

Use Ask Gemini with third-party integrations

Important: Before you begin, you may need to ask your administrator to install the third-party integrations from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

You can use Ask Gemini to connect with third-party apps to manage tasks, find information, and automate workflows across Google Workspace and external tools.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .
  2. In the message field, type @ followed by the third-party integration name. For example, “@HubSpot,” “@Asana,” “@Salesforce.”
    • Or, you can enter the full name of the app in your prompt without the use of @.
  3. Enter your prompt. For example:
    • “Summarize my Asana tickets.”
    • “@Salesforce find customer information for [Customer Name].”
    • “@Hubspot create a new lead for [Lead details].” or “Create a new lead for [Lead details] in Hubspot.”
  4. Click Send .

Tips:

  • Ask Gemini only connects to the third-party integrations you have successfully connected in the Google Workspace Marketplace. If you encounter an authorization error, you must authorize the app through the Google Workspace Marketplace.
  • When you use Ask Gemini, it cites the third-party app as a source for the information it provides. It often includes a link to the source in the app.

Use Ask Gemini to invoke skills

Important: Before you can use a skill in Chat, you must create the skill and turn it on in Workspace Studio.

To analyze chat conversations, use skills in Ask Gemini in Google Chat.

  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .
  2. In the message field, type @ followed by the skill name. For example, “@Project Summary.”
  3. Enter your prompt.
  4. Click Send .

Key use case: To analyze recent chat conversations within a particular chat space and generate a structured status update, use a “Project Summary” skill.

Use Ask Gemini to use Deep Research

You can use Ask Gemini to run complex, multi-step research tasks about any topic. Gemini synthesizes information from the web and any sources you include to create comprehensive research reports with cited sources. Learn more about Deep Research in Gemini.

Start a Deep Research report
  1. In Google Chat, open Ask Gemini .

  2. In the message field, enter a prompt. Explain what you want to research. For example, "Deep research: Research current renewable energy trends and compare them with my project drafts in Google Drive."
  3. Click Send .
Add sources and review your research plan

After you submit your prompt, a "Deep research sources" card shows in your chat. Ask Gemini uses these sources to base its research.

  1. In the "Deep research sources" card, select one or more options:
    • Drive: Analyze files and folders in your Google Drive.
    • Gmail: Include info from your emails.
    • Chat: Include info from your chat messages.
    • Web: Search the public web for the latest info.
  2. Optional: To choose specific sources for your research, click Add sources and select files from your Google Drive.
  3. Click Next.
    • Ask Gemini creates a research plan for your topic with the questions the report aims to answer.
    • To update the research plan before you create a report, click Customize.
  4. Click Start research.
Track your research
  • While you work, Ask Gemini researches your topic based on the plan.
  • It can take some time to generate your report. You can close Ask Gemini, start a new chat, or switch to a different Google Workspace document. The research task continues in the background.
  • When the research is complete:
    • Ask Gemini generates the report in a Google Docs document.
    • You get an email about your plan’s completion.
Open your report
  1. In your conversation with Ask Gemini, click Open doc.
    • A new Google Docs document opens in a new tab.
    • It includes the findings, citations, and an organized summary of the data found.
    • The report automatically saves to your Google Drive.
  2. In the document, you can ask follow-up questions about the report.
    • You can also use Ask Gemini to refine specific sections.

Give feedback about Ask Gemini

Google Workspace with Gemini is constantly learning and may not be able to support your request.

If you get a suggestion that’s inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can let us know by submitting feedback. Your feedback can help improve AI-assisted Workspace features and broader Google efforts in AI.

Because feedback may be human readable, do not submit data that contains personal, confidential, or sensitive information.

  1. Below the generated output, select Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
  2. In the pop-up window, you can select the data you want to share along with your feedback, which includes prompts, additional context, and outputs. If you don’t want to share certain data, you can uncheck it.
  3. Select Submit.

To provide general feedback about Google Chat, at the top, click Help Help & Feedback and then Send feedback to Google.
