After having this game for an year and having the same issue with Vaporum and several other games I have finally found the problem buried deep in some Reddit "try this maybe" comments!

Simply right click on "My Computer" > Select "Manage" > "Device Manager" > "Human Interface Devices" > And finally right click and disable the "HID-compliant game controller"
On some Windows version it is called Vjoy apparently but mine say "HID-compliant game controller". Basically disable anything that says game controller because it creates a virtual joystick (Vjoy) which for some unknown reason messes with some games!?

Anyway I hope I have helped. I know I was not the only one struggling with this!
