Extreme disappointment
It don't get it, it's just room after room of monsters. The differences between rooms is so minimal it doesn't make much of a difference.

Do you not understand that this is a digital recreation of the boardgame Gloomhaven?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloomhaven

As such it's alwasy going to be what the boardgame is but on a computer. With this in mind - how could it be anything else?

Guess I was just shell shocked that a boardgame so bad is popular enough to get a digital version.

So bad it was rated as the number 1 boardgame in the world for 7 straight years...

Yikes, not a lot happening in the board game sphere eh?
Or is this one of those, we made an award to give ourselves, kind of thing?

Very popular strategy

No, there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of games out there. Gloomhaven just was, and still is, that good. The game was so popular that the massive communities of fans wanted more and more to the point that they began making their own content to extend the game and enjoy it even longer once they were done with its story. It is one of the only games I have ever heard of that was so popular that the fans got together and, with the blessings of the original designer, organized a full new box set for the game with additional characters and an entire new campaign. It also received an official expansion that was pretty good and Gloomhaven went on to have an amazing sequel in Frosthaven and remained so popular that the company redesigned and streamlined the game with things that they learned over the years into a 2nd edition, which also became extremely popular.

I think the problem is that kids these days are more interested in brain rot and being spoon fed simplistic mobile games that the difficulty of an actual tactical strategy game is just too far above their skill level to be of any interest to them. Like trying to teach Chess or Go to a 4 year old.
Game being exactly as advertised
"NOOO WHY IS THERE SO MUCH GAME IN MY GAME, IT'S SO BAD"

Don't worry Joe, I also installed it, then uninstalled it, and refunded too.

I also turned down scientology. But we should let the cultists enjoy to play their little board game...
That's ok, not everyone can enjoy a tactical strategy game that makes you actually think and plan ahead to solve puzzles an manage your hand of abilities. They make games that might be a bit more to your skill level. Have you tried Flappy Bird or Crossy Road?
I bet these guys love Snakes & Ladders.

No, listed as the top game on Board Game Geek for years.

(Plus winning several long-standing international game awards).

It must be amazing to live in a world where you can look at a thing for a couple minutes and declare that it's stupid and everyone who disagrees with you must be in a cult.

see that makes me glad I uninstalled it - when the true colours of this toxic community start to show itself.

I felt there was something off with this game from the start, and it's actually the reverse of what you just said. Because it took me short order to realise the maths of Gloomhaven are just the equivalent of making a hamster run around a wheel.

Numerical contrivances masquerading as complexity is not 'deep'.
Toxic? You're the one coming in here telling us all that the game is stupid and contrived and we are all just brainwashed cultists. Do some self reflection dude. Go touch some grass and come back when you've had a snack and a nap.
Was this your "single constructive comment?"

I'm trying to understand this game, but the problem with card games, to me, is that they seem to be geared toward memorization and pre-exposure. I'm ten hours into Roadside Ambush with a tinkerer and a brute and I can't clear it, and I've only gotten out of the first room once.

Europeans think it's a good idea to stop drilling for oil and to fund Greek retirement that begins at the age of puberty, so I'm not especially impressed with their sensibilities, and I lived there for a few years (spoiler alert, i came back as soon as I could).

These mechanics make no sense. I have hit points, but I can lose cards to avoid damage. I lose cards anyway. I have to do nothing (the height of fun) to recover my cards. I don't understand how synergies function, I don't know what other classes can do (among the ones I could have chosen), and for all my hard (expletive) work trying to unlock the mystery of this award*-winning title (*in Europe*), and there's no one around who will explain it to me; only people interested in telling me how award-winning it is and to call me stupid. I know I'm stupid: my mom told me so, and I'm American, so everyone knows that I'm stupid.

Am I supposed to die and die and die again like this is a Dark Souls title, because that's what's happening. And yeah, Dark Souls was award winning, from your friends the Japanese (whose civilization will collapse from lack of reproduction, anyway). But yeah, Dark Souls wasn't for me...
