Why is Europe so weak?
Seriously. When I play for Europe, it hurts... But when I play for Russia or the USA, I don't feel THAT bad... Why? Any ideas?

I never finished the European campaign :primum_non_nocere:
Maybe they need a different tactics.
It may be equal to real life strength. That’s the only thing I can think of.
Europe is all about mobility not exchanging blows in a "fair fight", they have the shortest range and lowest dmg along with squishiest units BUT they are great at engaging mobile targets and withdrawing from a fight thanks to their high mobility, accuracy and highest shields that they can use to tank more shots than other factions before taking permanent damage that impacts the units damage output for every lost unit.

Well, I just noticed that only 30% of the maps in the game allow for any mobility at all. And considering unit abilities and stratogems—missile strike and airstrikes, for example—armor is more important than shields. Armor significantly reduces damage and withstands damage. Shields? What's the point if even a level 2 missile strike only takes 12.5% off Russian helicopters, while you get 25% with upgraded armor, and you're guaranteed to lose one unit from your squad?

Besides, if an EMP disables a vehicle, only armor will save it, and again, Europe has almost no armor... So, it turns out that Europe is positioned as a faction that relies on shields and shield deactivation, but... A 3-point ability leaves you half-dead...

USA? It's all about range and a combination of armor and damage. Artillery with 3 long-range grids and the best stealth and drones in the game... Tactic gameplay...

Russia? Fat and damage... Tanky, unstoppable rush... Slow but sure... Yes... But WORK-WORK!

In my experience, the European faction is just for show... Bad maps = VERY bad EF...

That's a lie unless you nuke every single building cover and tree on the map and start the game then, and those open areas you are talking about favour EU more than other factions due to their mobility allowing them to get in and out of a fight more effectively than other factions.

There is no such thing as armor in this game, only HP and Shields and as far as i know Airstrikes deal 25% damage flat to a units health doubling said damage if the shields are down.
EMP can nullify enemy airstrike if you click on it too and it costs you 1 command point less.
and as for me? id rather take shield damage than permament armor hurting my damage output in the process.

If you get hit by emp and enemy sends out their counter out to get them you are loosing that unit regardless of which side you are on, but if you look at strengths and weaknesses for each faction yes russia has more health but also slowest units so getting away is technically equal if not worse to usa and european counterparts whom sacrifice armor for speed.

They do have greatest range yes, but that's the only thing they excell at, they can't go head on into the grinder like russia, they can't effectively get away or chase down and capture uplinks one of the games objectives the way europe does.
as for the drones? Comon, they are but a buffer not even worth mentioning.
Stealth is only on riflemen and those guys can be seen walking about, running into them with your units will reveal them and if you see them in a building you can force attack it or emp to reveal them, hell flying over a drone does the trick just as well.

-----

AGAIN EU is not made for a fair fight, your gunships for example will loose with USA and Russia in a stand up fight unless you micro them or lure enemies into a trap, BUT EU can more effectively chase down or escape than their counter parts.
Playing this game the way it was intended: rock - paper - scissors, makes EU OP in my opinion.

-----

A "quick" rundown on the factions IMO if you will:

EU is all about being mobile: harassing, poking and stretching enemies out to make them overconfident and walk into a trap or outright capitalizing on their oversights and hit them where it hurts.
Contrary to other factions Europe can get away with overextending and chasing down enemy units something that would otherwise be a foolish endeavour that would leave you exposed.
For example as europe you can chase down enemy transports with your tanks dishing out more damage than other factions thanks to being able to keep up with them (especially when you max out your speed upgrades in the campaign) and actually hit a moving target and if you overextend and run into gunships? too bad! (for the enemy) because your transports can much more rapidly respond to and engage them allowing your speedy tanks to get away just as fast as they got there.

USA depends entirely on their range easily giving you some good alpha damage if you engage in an open field but any urban scenario or emp and USA is basically EU with worse off shields and god forbid Russia is the ones giving you a hug in that scenario.

Russia is big on not giving their enemies any breathing room with oppressive pushes led by painful artillery support that i believe has the highest range in the game, BUT the moment their units get split up, overextended or otherwise get out of position they are easy pickings. Russian units also suffer from poor accuracy and speed making chasing down enemy units near impossible not to mention getting out of ambushes or said overextensions: YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO COMMIT TO AN ENGAGEMENT.

-----

If you want to play EU effectively you have to change your tactics and mindset, each faction is made for a different type of player
I have to argue that EU is the op faction here, being able to shift from engagement to engagement with the lowest downtime is the EU's strength and if you play it any other way you will loose, you either command the enemy colonel's units for him through your gameplay or you get stomped on by superior firepower.

-----

Couple of things that are worth nothing about EU:
EU has the weakest infantry that doesn't hold a candle to usa or russia in a straight up fight but they have the fastest cap and upgrade speed as well as accuracy allowing you to gun down moving / distant targets more effectively than other factions at the cost of range.
EU artillery has the lowest damage and range BUT, they have the best shields (that's important if enemy tries to poke them) as well as accuracy and mobility allowing you to more effectively engage moving targets and catch enemies off guard / retreat faster if enemy catches YOU off guard.

In the Campaign USA has access to automatic turrets on their tanks and IFV's and while they are dangerous they don't hold a candle to EU Anty infantry capabilities in the same scenario.
Russia doesn't get any automatic turrets instead relaying entirely on their armor and firepower.

-----

TLDR
You are looking too much into EU weaknesses not their strengths and are probably playing them like you would the other two sides. change your mindset and tactics, each faction is made for different kind of player, EU is about micro, Russia about letting things happen and USA about slow and calculated pushes through combined arms.
EU has always felt weaker but plays the RPS system powerfully. Other factions more forgiving for error.

An interesting way of looking at things, of course... I think the whole problem is that most of the parameters are simply hidden and there are no concrete numerical values to compare directly... For example, that infamous accuracy percentage and HP...

Although, again, I don't understand how you, playing as Europe, simply don't notice the enemy squad's abilities, which are guaranteed to kill at least one vehicle in your squad... It's even easier against Russia because all the US squad's abilities are long-range... I haven't even reached them yet, and already hashes are flying at me and knocking out at least one vehicle in my squad... And how do you counter that, excuse me??? Just... Don't counter that???

Because when i playing as Russia, I just don't care... I barely feel it... Damage is either nonexistent or very small... As Russia, I'm not afraid of airstrikes... As Russia, I'm not afraid of EMPs thanks to my powerful titanium alloy armor plates... As Russia, I'm not afraid of throwing riflemen against riflemen and much-much-much more... European riflemen are just meat against Russian riflemen... European tanks is just meat againt Russian tanks etc...

Personally, I prefer the USA gameplay. Cautious, measured gameplay based on the tactical and operational capabilities of your squads on the ground and range barriers. Planning and waiting... Like a... Hunter...

Well... Let's put it this way... Europe is a pretty interesting faction until you unlock unit abilities. You deal less damage, while they deal maximum damage to you... You can't even kill one unit with two units, and one unit is guaranteed to wipe out one unit from the same unit... It... PAINFUL...

If you get disabled by an EMP and you don't disable the enemy in return... YOU'RE DEAD!!! No faction in the game is as vulnerable to EMPs as Europe...

Next up are the stratogems. After just one grid, both the US and Russia lose one unit when attacked by an airstrike, Europe loses two. All your mirror units are weaker than those of other countries...

Playing Europe is simply... PAINFUL! DIFFICULT! STUFFY! I don't understand how anyone can even praise it... Europe would be an interesting faction if there were fewer goridor maps and maps with a bridge in the middle and would have the grid for armor FIRST, not LAST...

Europe has no damage. No armor. No range. But it has mobility and shields. Shields that are ignored by abilities and stratagems... Shields that can be disabled by EMP... Mobility that's difficult to implement due to coridors and bridges maps... LOL...

every faction has access to q kill unit ability, but where RUS and JSF have flat damage eu has utility in theirs, microwave deals more damage to infantry units and seems to suppress them temporarily, and EU tanks emp enemy shields. as for range, yeah its a bummer but then obstacles exist and even if JSF transports q shot a tank those tanks will still pummel them.

That's because its russia, their doctrine is getting in and exchanging blows till the enemy is dead because once you get into your effective range EU and JSF equivalents are WAY WAY worse, but getting out of a fight chasing down or withdrawing units takes ages in contrast.

make both riflemen engage each other in the open or in a treeline, if europe remains static they die, if they run and make russia chase after them they win, same goes for tanks, once you make russia be on the move they loose out and if you make EU sit still they get pummeled, all because of that accuaracy statistic

and again,

EU is about embracing counters not fighting head on so once again if you do that you don't play EU, your playing russia with EU units which is insane on its own, factions have their own doctrine you have to follow if you don't like a certain playstyle that a faction is made for you won't enjoy said faction...

and that is your problem, its not the EU its you, you have the mindset and preference for JSF gameplay where you bunker up and exploit your superior range, but hate to break it to you, once Russia breaks that range barrier and gets in your face you are at a disadvantage, and if EU picks apart your units one by one same story, every faction has its strengths and weaknesses, you are clearly trying to play to JSF strengths as other factions but it just doesn't work that way

and sorry but AI won't do you justice in skirmish or campaign below hardcore because its simply braindead and won't counter you like it should or retreat its countered units

And to be clear i love how smart ai is in hardcore campaign because its a massive improvement as an adversary but man do i hate the cheats involved with it...

don't know about that mate, if i hit Russian or JSF transports with emp and send my panthers to hit them they die just fine, and it works for every faction, its not EU its the emp at work here...

its not the EU its the game mechanic: airstrikes deal flat 25% damage to units which gets doubled if the shields are off

europe can cross a bridge faster and not let themselves be landlocked more effectively, the map your talking about is probably SHENANODNAH VALLEY, which is one of my favourite maps due to those choke points where slow enemy units can easily get trapped and picked apart while leaving their flank wide open to gunship strikes.

"Shields are ignored by abilities and stratagems... Shields can be disabled by EMP"
and it goes for all 3 factions, its not universally EU problem
as for damage? EU is the only faction with splash damage transports so your clumped up air is bound to die faster if you send them in group

Originally posted by AMARANT:

try chasing down eu tanks with your gunships or eu transports with your tanks, see how that goes when they can easily pick apart your evacuating squads thanks to their speed

You don't enjoy EU gameplay which is fine but it doesn't make the faction bad in its own right, its just differently built for different tactical approach. EU moves A LOT, they can't exactly sit around and let enemy built up and get an upper hand, they capitalize on weakness and enemy oversights.
Take it from a hardcore only dif player. Some nuances others have missed [HERE]

Europa
- Only gunships in the game to get Q ability very early, at just regular rank. Not only do you get this at regular rank, you also get the upgraded missiles at regular too. If your gunships die it's very easy to get them back up to being hard hitting. With the speed of these gunships you can easily harass, retreat, and reload and be a menace on the map. Probably europe's best unit
- Badger: Only IFV in the game to get Q ability at regular as well. Q ability uniquely deals its full damage to any infantry in cover/buildings without ever missing
- Highest DPS Riflemen early game. Engineers get access to Accuracy/Range earlier than the other two factions (Again, if they die, they become effective much quicker than other factions)
- Shield regeneration is very fast (both cooldown & speed of refill)
- Accuracy very high (might as well count it as damage)
- Units have a very high fire rate (including artillery)
- VIRCATOR Tank ability is OP
- Reposition with speed. Tanks/Artillery caught unguarded have a much higher chance of not being deleted.
- Faster to reinforce / Faster to evacuate (For 2CP refund)
- Insane uplink cap speed
- WMD looks coolest â™Ĩâ™Ĩâ™Ĩâ™Ĩ you

You may have less survivability against abilities and map-support, that's not a fatal flaw, that's game balance. EU would be devastatingly overpowered if they could micro manage all day unchecked

Playing EU is more of a learning curve and unique style of play than the other factions. If you get good they're broken. Overall git gud
strange, Europe is the only faction I can play, other than America, on hardest difficulty mode but Europe is still easier. At the end of the day most the game is about uplinks especially with wmd and even if it's a battle to destruction instead of siege it's still easier to at least have the right unit fighting the right unit and reinforce, it's still hard on AI as their units are always max veteran max upgrade way quicker on hard mode but when I play as Russia i get completely destroyed, even medium is hard, just totally outflanked. That's why this game is really good, a mix of tactical and strategic one of the best games i've ever played
How do you win as Russia? If you rush in you'll just get ambushed against the wrong units with AI who knows exactly where you are all the time unlike a human. i get strategically destroyed as Russia and it gets boring. Europe is the easiest to play by far as you just play a mixed forced. Other people say Russia is ifv/tank heavy or something maybe not gunships at all, USA can use artillery to cause attrition but Europe requires no lopsided play you move you fight

ALWAYS have one chopper and one artillery unit. scout with the chopper first then lay in on some artillery. for the rest of the units i'd say one upgraded engineer for captures and a smattering of tanks and ifvs. i usually on a mission that allows 4 or more go, chopper, artillery, engineer and ifv. and cycle in whatever the counter is for the general you are facing as the fifth unit.

I have exactly the same questions for those who adore Europe. As Russia against a hardcore bot in Campaign, I almost never even restart battles (I only do this if his WMPs kill my veterans). I play without losses. Without restarts. Stable and precise. I simply create a combination of tanks, helicopters, and infantry fighting vehicles and rush. Infantry, artillery, or whatever else is needed.

As the US, things are a bit more complicated, but if you stick to the artillery-helicopter tactic, victories are guaranteed.

How you play for Europe and not die from the first EMI strike is beyond me... Not to mention that European units die from simple unit abilities... I won't even mention airstrikes...

A T-100 with 3 armor grid often simply doesn't take any damage from enemy abilities, dealing only 12.5% damage from an airstrike and 25% from a T2 airstrike.

---

But I've been given a whole bible about how Europe is overpowered... Yet I play Europe and understand that the US and Russia are simply superior...

The US has long range, the best artillery in the game... Russia has armor and firepower... Europe... Speed and shields... Shields that are easily knocked out by EMI...

Europe's microwave weapon abilities are close-range... So I have to expose myself to enemy close-range abilities—flamethrowers, anti-tank grenades—in order to use mine... But Europe doesn't suck, no-no-no... I don't get it...

Again... What kind of tactics and speed are you talking about here if 60-70% of the maps are completely tunnel-like??? What's the point of smashing through the bridge in the center, or Fort Levsky? Where do you overtake whom and where? Maps like Springfield or Al-Arrawid are where Europe can really turn around and use its mobility advantage... 30-40% of the maps, I repeat...

So what if you get there faster than Russia? Artillery only has a range of 1, while Russia has 2, and the US has 3... A unit's basic ability will hit you—1-2 in a squad... Then an airstrike will hit—half of the 2 squads... Or they'll just throw EMI at you and T-100s will rape your tanks and IAVs... Europe has no armor, it's all about shields... And during key firefights, I simply disable shields with EMI and that's it... Often, a group of European units simply dies in 5-10 seconds, because T-2 EMIs have a larger range...

When European helicopters use their ability on the Ka-52, it often deals either no damage or 12.5% damage. When the Ka-52 uses their ability on European helicopters, it's guaranteed to kill a unit in the squad...

---

How do I RAPE Europe? It's very simple... I just force them into a pitched battle and jam their EMPs...

One of my units is as more powerful as one of theirs... Without shields, they're simply NOTHING... And if they throw shields at me... LOL... MY RUSSIAN ARMOR HOLDS IT!!! T100 will rape your tanks, IFVs and just move on... I won't even mention their miniguns against helicopters, infantry and IFVs...
