Alt-Tabbing Seems to Have a High Chance of Crashing My Game
Three times tonight, my game has locked up and frozen completely, and two of those times, it was right after I alt-tabbed and then tabbed back in.

I'm pretty sure it was in the middle of character dialogue, but I don't know for sure if that's what's making it happen. One crash happened while Scylla was speaking, and the other happened when I alt-tabbed during a conversation with Dora.

Just crashed again after alt-tabbing, and wasn't even in a conversation this time. No idea what could have caused it, but it's definitely always after tabbing out and back in.
Heyo! Could you try toggling fullscreen and/or borderless in the display settings, and see if that makes a difference?

If you're on Linux, Proton or Steam Deck, here are some workarounds we found for now while the issue is investigated.

Found some workarounds for this while it's being investigated.

List of workarounds
- Add this launch option to Hades II: /DetectThreadFreezeTimeout=0
- Un-check the box for "Force the use of specific Steam Play compatibility tool" in the Compatibility menu, or
- Check the box in the previous bullet and use 9.0-4 or Proton-GE. (Proton-GE requires a couple extra steps to set up).
I have had similar issues on Fedora 44 with KDE, where alt-tabbing (or even just taking and saving a screenshot using the system tools) was causing it to crash. Including right after completing a victorious run and trying to get a picture of the victory screen (my second ever).

I found switching to Proton 9.0-4 from the default settings "seems" to have improved things based on minor testing, but I won't know until I try it a few more times.

I wish that the game would be better about persisting the state of things in "safe" zones, especially in key moments like this, so they could be resumed.

Heyo! Thank you for the report, and apologies for the inconvenience. The game should auto-save immediately after completing the boss fight, though I don't know that reloading the save at that point would display the victory screen.

In terms of recovering your mid-run progress after a crash, if the game fails to do so automatically, there are some steps near the end of the pinned help message.
Oh thank you! It looks like the save I have is just before the boss fight, but I'll take it over losing all that progress and having to do it again!
