Okay, my noir friends ... this could be a setting for something spooky and nefarious. Put on your best Chandler fedora and tell me: if this shot were part of a scene in a movie, what would happen here?

All that talk about film the other day put me in the mood for my favorite Glimpses game. This is your producer talking, my cinephile friends ... put on your director's caps and tell me if this setting were in a movie, what would happen here?

Did you guys think I'd forgotten about my favorite game?Slap on those director's caps and channel your inner auteur. I've given you the perfect setting ... just tell me, if this were part of a movie, what would happen here?

I've wanted to play this game here for a while. So tell me, my darling readers with such interesting cinematic genius ... if this were the setting for a scene in a movie, what would happen here?Friday, January 7, 2011

Here's a new twist on my old favorite...I happened upon these kids shooting a movie outside the library the other day. What do you think their movie is about?

Close Up
I love the front door of the Eddie Park house. It's just so cinematic. And speaking of cinematic, check out my latest column at Patch, which should be posted sometime before lunch Pacific Daylight Time. It's all about filming in South Pasadena. (See? I'll bet you all thought I was going to ask you to play the "if this were a setting in a movie, what would happen here" game. Well, now that you mention it...)

It's an alley so picturesque it makes me wish I had reason to make a film there. Something with Leonardo DiCaprio in a fedora. Something with a seductive French actress running from an obsessed detective. Something with a psychic homeless woman sitting on a Mexican blanket.Wait a minute... I'm playing my own favorite game. And that means you all have to play along, too...
If this were the setting for a scene in a movie, what do you think would happen here?

I can't decide what we would find beyond that gate, but whatever it is, I'll bet it would make a great setting for a movie. You know what that means, my dear readers-with-cinematic-brainpower: if you were directing a movie scene set at this location, what would happen here? (I'm thinking either something with fairies and enchantment -- maybe a contemporary retelling of Midsummer Night's Dream -- or a party scene involving a 1970s wooden hot tub. There just has to be one of those back there...)On another note:

It's no wonder South Pas acts as a backlot for Hollywood. Not only does our city play a recurring role in film and television as America's hometown, but at ten minutes from downtown Los Angeles it still has a few unpaved rural pockets like this one. So... (you all know what's coming) if you were going to set a scene for a movie here, what would happen?

This house is too good not to use as a setting for a movie, if only for my favorite blog game! So, lets channel our inner Van Sant, Soderbergh and von Trier ... if this were the setting for a scene in a film, what would happen here?Friday, June 18, 2010

You know I can't resist my favorite game. I'm thinking something from the bourbon-soaked pages of James M. Cain or Raymond Chandler. But you tell me, clever readers, if this were the setting for a scene in a movie, what would happen here?Friday, June 4, 2010

With all the film crews shooting around South Pas this week I just can't resist another round of my favorite game. So tell me, my aspiring Hitchcocks, Weirs and Fassbinders, if this were the setting for a scene in a movie ... what would happen here?

I hadn't planned on playing my favorite game again so soon, but when I drove past the library and saw the tree from yesterday's post being used as a backdrop for yet another South Pas film shoot, I couldn't resist.Since this actually is a setting for a movie, what do you think the scene is about?

I just can't decide on a character for this place...Serial killer with multiple personalities?
Manifesto-writing recluse?
Rural cousin of the Big Lebowski?
Then again, what do you think? Just like all the other times I've forced you to put on your director's hats -- if this were the setting for a scene in a movie, what would happen here?

There's a story here. Maybe more than one. But don't worry, I won't ask my clever readers to concoct their own versions...Wait a minute, of course I will! (It's what I do!)
So... if this were the setting for a scene in a movie, what would happen here?
