Context.
The posts of weapons I've been making probably just seem like window dressing with out knowing the context in which they were created. I'll attempt to remedy this, at least in part, now.

Thus far all of the equipment has come from one game of SLA I ran about ten years ago now called Operation Hydra. The objective was to control and stem DN activity in Mort with out exposing too many SLA assets or revealing DN as the puppet of SLA that it truly is, thus maintaining the fanatical loyalty of the turn coats who form its rank and file.

Operative squad is denounced as turn coats and inserted as sleepers and used in increasingly higher security operations, finding asset deployment and key personnel reporting back to their controller. Once a high enough profile target is discovered they are activated and terminate the target and as many assets as possible (Oddly enough this was a black BPN). They manage to pull it off and rendezvous with controller.

Interceptors follow them and attack killing the controller (the only one who knows they are on this mission). Some what bewildered as what to do next they extract a pharmacist they befriended on one of the locations they did security. Using his knowledge they start selling drugs.

Going through the Johannas for distribution they end up employing some as muscle and have trouble arming them, so decide to go into the arms business and target known DN assets seizing personnel and equipment until DN displace all assets.

Turf wars with local gifters, Carrien gangs, and other Soft Companies. Trade embargoes, alliances, double deals, power brokering, assassinations. Industrial espionage, Orienta connections, lost tech. Ebon schooling, Ebb trade, skin trade, sexual predations. None of them can hold a candle to DN though and get pushed around accordingly for market share.

Until they all gang up.

Price fixing, insider trading, more industrial espionage and incorporation leading to a head. War!

One swift decapitation attack  sees many DN assets eliminated or seized setting them back decades if not centuries.

Recontact with controller (a Vevaphon was "killed" during the Interceptor attack) and organises a meet with the guy at the top.

Slayer congratulates them on achieving the objective: Bringing as many rivals under the one yoke as possible while inflicting catastrophic damage on their opponent... Just like he did during the Conflict Wars.

SLA "buys" a controlling share in their company (didn't go down to well with the players) as a silent partner and orders they equip for similar missions across the WoP.

End campaign.

All this equipment was to give stats and a rules presence to a bunch of names in the bottom corner of page 46 of Karma as they were live entities that had regular interaction with the environment of the campaign. To give them some life, ideals, market share and products. Technologies open for espionage or seizure and further research. I even worked up a simple system for manufacture of... well anything really.

I hope you guys can see a little less simplistically than "Empty stats of identikit guns" and "...a vehicle for gunbunnies". Then again; I guess everything must look the same from the top of an ivory tower.

I figured it was a lot of work and someone else might just find it useful one day...

Armaments continued:
Hard  Ware Inc. has a small selection of weapons, but this may be in part due to the sheer number of new weapons placed on the market annually.

The missionaries only entry in the arms market the PM 16 is basic, reliable and cheap. Its snub nose design makes it easily concealed, almost ideal as a back up weapon.

R.I.P. Bunnies
Not renown for their armaments R.I.P. Bunnies do make a small range of high quality weapons.

 SizeCalClipRoFRangeRecoilWeightCost
R.I.P.B 10 Stiletto P12 mm24325m63kg15,000u
R.I.P.B 15 DervishP12.7 mm5115m92.5kg24,000u
R.I.P.B 17 Gutting hookP17 mm33/120m18/123.5kg36,000u

A utilitarian weapon with few aesthetic qualities, the R.I.P.B 10 is a stamped and riveted sub-machine gun in a bullpup configuration. The top loaded "stick" magazine furthers the weapons odd profile and necessitates off-set pin sights though it does seem to add to recoil control. It can accept no accessories.

The R.I.P.B 15 is a heavy snub nose revolver that enjoys the reliability that most revolvers have. It can accept a silencer/flash suppressor.

The R.I.P.B 17 is an alien looking, thuggish weapon. The upside-down triangled three barrels give it a distinct profile. Time consuming to load due to each round having to be slid home individually it has an auto cocking mechanism that is reliable but if it fails or jams the weapon must be stripped; a dangerous and awkward process. A pepper-box style firing mode allows all loaded barrels to be fired at once (not as "auto-fire").

The R.I.P.B 17 has a ferocious recoil even in the hands of a Stormer. Recoil baffeling is advised though it must be applied to each barrel adding to the weapons exhorbident cost and overheads. It comes with an integral laser painter in the centre of the three barrels and can fit a stock, scope and can be silenced/flash suppressed; again this must be applied to all three barrels.

Extremely rare outside Orienta this ornate vibro-blade is as much a status symbol as it is a weapon.

More weapons from more Soft Companies
Here is some fire arms from Fire Inc.

Fire  0022R10mm5010/5/125m15/7/37kg30,500u

Bulky and cumbersome, Fire Inc. weaponry is universally heavily reliant on power armour to assist in its operation. Not renown for its reliability, variable quality materials used in different production runs makes even similar models vary greatly in all respects.

For all this all Pistol classes are equipped with stocks and all weapons are equipped with laser painters standard, though this may have something to do with the inflated street prices.

DN 850R40mm63/150m13/812.5kg85,000u

The DN 850 is a ruthless weapon that seldom sees operation on Mort and then usually only by suicide squads. The 1,000m range finder/scope features dial up paralaxing. While time consuming to set, the weapon is formidable once ranged. As a "safety" feature the DN 850 ammunition has a 15 metre arming range. Treat ammunition as standard frag grenade.

DN War-world weapons

DN 134R8mm243/1150m8/67.5kg25,000u

The monstrous DN235 comes with recoil baffling of 5 (included in profile) and a 1000m telescopic sight. Its weight and recoil usually see this weapon mounted on a vehicle.

The elegant DN 34 is considered an officers side arm and comes ready to fit all accessories.

The rugged DN 134 is a bullpup design and renown for its reliability (and difficult to scavenge ammunition), and comes with a 1,000m IR sight.

I've made a quite a few weapons up over the years. Over the next few weeks I'll post some. I've tried to keep the power of the weapons at a balanced level, and one should bear in mind that most of these weapons are rare, exotic or perhaps even unique pieces of equipment.

DN standard frame upgrades
                  SizeCal.ClipRoFRangeRecoilWeightCost
DN 72P12mm18 215m52kg8,500u
DN 84P12mm305/115m9/33.5kg11,000u
DN 120R12mm255/125m10/64kg17,000u
DN 154R10mm7010/530m11/510.5kg27,500u

The DN 72 upgrade gives the weapon a thinner profile, increasing concealability. This boon is off set by an awkward laser painter mount that is easily off-set by heavy jarring.

The DN 84's design includes a flash suppressor.

The DN 154 comes with integral laser painter, recoil baffling 2 (included in profile) and bipod. Models produced between 894-902 are machined very closely and suffer jamming in gritty environments.

All prices are for full weapons. Upgrade kits alone are usually 1,000u less for pistols and 3,000u less for rifles. Conversion is at a -7 Weapons Maintenance check except for the DN 154 which is at a -9 failure by more than 10 ruins the frame. Conversion takes a full day to complete.

SLA Industries Development Blog

Hi all,

The SLA Industries fans amongst you might like to know that Dave has started up a SLA Development Blog on LiveJournal where he'll be posting up preview artwork, ideas and keeping people abreast with developments.

We'll obviously be relating the news to our own website/Forums and the Cubicle 7 Facebook Community, but the Live Journal  group will be the source. Plus you can comment and let Dave (and the rest of us) know what you think!

The site is open to view by anybody (so you don't need an LJ account to see it).

It's really nice to be able to start talking about SLA again as we know we've all been a bit quiet on that front recently. But we've never been far away from the World of Progress!

The SLA Development Blog can be found at http://community.livejournal.com/sla_development/

Stay SLA!

Hunter Sheets & Cannibal Sector One Available on Ebay
Hi all!

Good news (finally) on the SLA INDUSTRIES RPG front!

As you hopefully know we have just released a brand new book for SLA INDUSTRIES as well as a limited advanced preview of a second book that is due for general release in June.

If you would like to be kept up to date with future SLA INDUSTRIES releases, or releases from other games at Cubicle 7 Entertainment, please let me know and I'll add you to our Mailing List.

I'll also no doubt be posting here when future books are released - including the general release of Hunter Sheets Issue One in the summer.

Cannibal Sector One should hopefully be hitting stores worldwide later this month!

I have included an ebay link as we're selling copies via Ebay at present if you're super-keen on getting a hold of a copy! (we are working on a webstore on www.cubicle7.co.uk and when that's up and running we'll let you know). The books are also currently available through Leisure Games (www.leisuregames.com - London, UK) and Black Lion Games (www.black-lion.co.uk - Edinburgh, UK) who got some advance stock in.

The new books in question are as follows:

CS1 upto to #2!
Cannibal Sector 1 is up to #2 in the current RPG Category Best Sellers over at RPGNow! I wonder if we'll be able to claim top spot at somepoint? Contract Directory is also still in the Top 20 at number 9.

So, the PDF's seem to be doing pretty well for us.

Print copies of Cannibal Sector One should be with us in time for Conpulsions up in Edinburgh on March 24th-25th. Dom and myself will be on the Cubicle 7 stand and John D and Team 8 will also be in attendence running a variety of games. The print copies of CS1 should then start hitting stores worldwide a few weeks later.

SLA Industries Storms The Top 20!
Cubicle 7 recently released the back catalogue of SLA Industries as PDFs and also added the brand new Cannibal Sector One to the sites in the last few days. We also made the first edition of the SLA Industries RPG available as a free download on both RPGNow and DriveThruRPG - so far in excess of 750 people have downloaded the freebie too which is pretty good. We also currently have four titles in the RPGNow RPG Top Twenty list! At numbers 6, 7, 8 and 12!

All this is down to the hard work of Dominic McDowall-Thomas and John Dodd who've been seriously putting in the hours to get the books online. We have two more books to be uploaded from the back catalogue and then next up is some more new stuff.

This doesn't really have much to do with SLA, just Dave Alsop.

I noticed that he has done some artwork for footprints for a gaming cartographer program.

I wonder if they are SLA related?

Status update?
Is there any news on what's going on with SLA? Is anything due to be published soon at all? Does Cubicle 7 still exist?
