I'd like to think we're still an alive and kicking club! I hear something went horrible with our K-con table plans this year. (big surprise, considering pretyt much EVERYTHING else went wrong this year, too . . .)

I had plans for a photoshoot under the bridge for Silent Hill cosplay, bit I was the only one cosplaying . . .

SO kids, let's get our sh** together for Sakuracon and Kumoricon next year!

Let me see, I probably have new fanart to share with you guys since my last post . . .

OH! Great news! My Resident Evil (soon-t0-be-yaoi) doujinshi won two awards this year at Kumoricon! So huzzah!

OK, having finally beaten SH4 (saved Eileen, not the apartment) I feel that I can honorably bring you guys some news.

At the recent Kumoricon Meeting this sunday I was told that a table spot in Artist's Alley will be $25. this is about half what their original estimate was. The society will need to contact Eric, who I think is the head of relations, at ehibitors@kumoricon.com

I've notified my Pocky Club members that we'll bee setting up a tablesitting schedule whenever the area is open and if you guys are still game, we can have our spots be at the same table (the fee mentioned above is for half a table). that way if we inform our people enough they'll be able to answer questions about both groups. I've also talked to staff and they say we'll have power available so that we can set up a TV and PS2 at our table. So when it's slow we can have movies running, or maybe play some Resident Evil ya know?

In more recent news, July is fast approaching and I would very much like us all to get together for a campout up at Fort Stevens. I think a weekend trip (maybe with Friday included if we can all get the days off) would be just enough for us to take a tour of the Fort and take some cool photos in the old ruins that dot the area. Not to mention see each other face to face. Unfortunately theres not much playing in July that would make a good matinee for the Society.
http://imdb.com/nowplaying/2006/07/

Even if we can't coordinate a simple day trip out to Fort Stevens, we should at least have some sort of get together before the convention. After all you guys, a society should try and be social. At least amongst ourselves. If anybody is still up for a weekend camping let us all know so we can try and request the same weekend off!

Oh and before I forget, when you get to the convention space, be sure to check out the sidewalk tunnel that leads across the grass and under the freeway. It's a nice concrete tunnel with dull orange lights and just enough water damage. It could be a great place to take some cosplay photos.

OK people lets start talking, I want to know what you guys noticed that I didn't.
This post will be spoiler free, but there will be spoilers in the COMMENTS, so don't forget that.

So, first off, did everyone notice that there was a song from Silent Hill 5 in the movie? It has a weird title.

Oh, and Tcheri? I can't remember what your name was but you sat behind me at the movie last night and you and your friends were cool. See guys! Some of us got to see the movie together!

I just got back from the theater where I watched the new movie "Stay Alive".

This movie hits survival horror gamers where they live: what would happen if the game became reality? I know more than one friend who has jokingly plotted out how they would survive in a zombie-infested world, but what about malevolent spirits?

For a group of survival horror gamers, the line becomes blurry to nonexistant between the game world and the real world as they try to do just what the game title of their latest aquisition recommends, and "Stay Alive".

It's actually really well done, moreso than the preview leads you to believe. The story is not all that believeable in the end. The gore is relatively minimal (it's PG-13), but if you can sufficiently suspend your disbelief, this movie works and is... fun.

And frankly I loved hearing the game references and seeing survival horror gamers actually having to play for real. Even if the Silent Hill reference was supposed to be about 4 but sounded like a mishmosh of advice for earlier SH-games. Possibly because they didn't want to give away an actual spoiler.

I really enjoyed this movie overall, and I'd go see it again if anyone's up for it and I could get to you.

The release date for this little treat (I'd been wondering when they'd do a remake of this in the States) is supposed to be July 14th of this year. We'll see if that holds true.

Anybody else besides me and Mr Joshua, know the original film? It was very technoparanoid and incredibly creepy, but it was also one of those where at the end you go "wtf was up with (list of five things)?!" If the trend in J-horror remakes is any indication, an American remake of "Kairo" might actually give the nod to the idea of making some sense WITHOUT trying to tie it all up into some feel-good Hollywood ending. At least, that's my hope.

Anybody want to make plans to try to see this one in groups as well? (It's got Boone from LOST in it, Tom!)

IMDb entry for the film is here~ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454919/

The holiday season and the aftermath I'm sure was busy for everyone, but things have still been happening, slowly and steadily, behind the scenes. However, I am bad and didn't update you guys about what WAS going on. When I saw Tom's post, it was enough of a kick in the pants for me to want to post right away a little bit of what HAS been going on during the time we seemed to slumber so...

COLLECTIONS!
A few items have been added to the various collections we're keeping and I'm always on the lookout for more. And of note: several items are going to become property of the Society officially, and no longer on loan from me, as soon as I have the time to go through the collection fully again. That will be the true beginning of a Society-owned library.

For those who don't remember where these lists are, these entries are in the comm memories, but, also, here are convenient links:

Go here for movies, games and music...

And here for RPG books...

OFFICIAL TABLES
Anime Oasis will have an SHS table.
Kumoricon will also.
(Kumoricon, as Tom said, isn't ready to sell us a table yet, but we will have one there for certain anyway. At least, barring the cancelling of the con or disasters that fall under the rubric "Acts of God.")

SOCIETY SWAG:
Swag (everything but t-shirts) will hopefully be travelling to Sakuracon and Anime Oasis this month. If you don't get yours and want it, write the official society email PLEASE, and give a mailing address where your official swag can reach you.

CON ROOM PARTIES AND MEET-UPS:
Anime Oasis: Room Party
Fanime: Meetup if anyone wants it? Room Party won't be feasible this year.
Fandemonium: TBD
Kumoricon: Room Party

WEB PRESENCE:
Society has a forums on eerielunarose.net, it just needs fixing up.
Society also now has a paid livejournal account for this comm for one year: POLLS TO FOLLOW!

HORROR CON:
It's very much going to happen. More news in my next post (poll).

Never too soon to start planning!

I'm awaiting word back from the Kumoricon relations staff. I spoke with them about the Society and Pocky Club sharing a table so we would have less trouble manning it. I don't even have a pricing estimate right now, that's how far off it is. I wanted to check in with you guys and make surethat the Society is still going to be putting a table together.

We haven't really done much as a group yet, all of the ideas for get togethers haven't happened and the only idea of something integrated was the book readings. Which also fell through. I like you guys and what little I hear from all of you is great! I just want to make sure that we have the resources, both fiscal and human(-oid) to afford the table.

About the tables by the way... because of the limited space in the hotel this year they're planning on limiting the Artist Alley section (AKA, you aren't a vendor) to 1/2 a table each. this means that if we did share a table, each club would be paying a full share. Of course we don't know what the price is yet so it's still waiting.

I've got a bunch of other questions while I'm posting...
Have any of you guys been to look at the hotel yet?
Who's going up to Sakuracon?
Have any of you gotten to see Marebito?
Who is up for a get together on the opening night of Silent Hill, April 21st?
What do you guys thing of a gigantic camping trip on the Oregon Coast? Like in Astoria where, The Ring 2 was set?

So I somehow managed to NOT post these here! I really thought I had! I spent several good months studying symboulism and Tarot and conjured up these theories about Silent Hill. I think there is editing to be done, but for the most part, they are complete.

HUGE HUGE HUUUUUGE SPOILER ALERT.

There are three sections to the post:

Symbolism in the 21 Sacraments Part One
( Read more...Collapse )

Symboulism in The 21 Sacraments II
( Read more...Collapse )

Pyramid Head Theory (which is also James/SH2 theory, but the majority of it is dedicated to PH.)
( Read more...Collapse )

I have a Walter theory lying around SOMEWHERE out there on teh intarwebs but I can't seem to find it at the mo'!

But I'll dig that up if anyone is interested!

I spent a good deal of time on these and the first two are quite long! But I hope you'll read anyway!

If you are going to SakuraCon, first of all, we should do a headcheck! How many of us will be there?

I know that I will!

Secondly, I want to cosplay for our group (skit cosplay I mean) like Arlene and I did at Kumoricon. It seemed to go over really well! I mean, I don't want to do the same one, but how many of you would be interested in a skit? And does anone have any super good ideas for a skit? I have one, but it's going to take a lot of cosplayers from different Survival Horror games.

So let me know!!!

It's for the RE doujinshi club on deviantart.

What is your Ultimate Casting for Silent Hill the movie?

Not who would you choose to play the roles in the movie that's actually being made, but what actors would you pick to play the characters from the actual games?

I've gotten as far as a young Harrison Ford as Harry.

Ken Kirzinger is kind of an obvious Pyramid head, but that's just because he's a gigantic stuntman.
Who would be a good Eddie, most of the fat actors are comedians, and the meaner ones are too old.... Hmm...
If he was whiter I think Jorge Garcia (from LOST, see below) could pull it off.
The only Eddie I can think of right now is Jack Black, but he actually cleans up decently.
Actually, I know of someone who's irritating and chubby and very white, they'd just need to make him meaner. Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Sorry about the stream of thought style, I'm caffeinated and don't work tomorrow, hee hee.

Ooh! How about Tilda Swinton as Claudia! She played the White Witch in Narnia and Gabriel in Constantine.
While I'm thinking of Narnia how about Georgie Henley (Lucy) as Cheryl and then Anna Popplewell (Susan) as Heather?

Hmmm, I need to make a list of characters..... Especially for The Room!
Morgan Freeman as Ghost Number 3! *snicker*

..............ugh.... I just imagined Walter with a Tuxedo on under his over coat.
Singing a lounge version of the SH3 song, with the ghosts fading out of the curtains behind him doing the can-can. Agh! Curse my mind! Another one.... back to casting...

Let's see, my cast built from LOST actors.
Evangeline Lilly is Cybil
Mira Furlan is Dahlia
Matthew Fox is James
Maggie Grace is Mary
Ian Somerhalder is... Vincent maybe?
Terry O'Quinn is Douglas
Josh Halloway is Walter (that one's REAL obvious)

So uh, who is your One True Casting for the characters?
