The Good: It's about Gary Heidnik. In fact, it's the only book specifically about Gary Heidnik that I've found.
The Bad: It's the only book about Gary Heidnik. Against my better judgment, I picked this book up. I looked at it- looked at the horrible, sensationalistic cover, the cheesy captions under the pictures inside, the overly dramatic description on the back. I weighed all of this in my mind against wanting to read something longer than a page or two about Gary Heidnik. Then, stupidly, I bought the book.
It's horrendous. This is the first and last time I will ever buy something like this. The way it's written is thoroughly exploitative. Not only that, the author is incredibly biased. I couldn't believe how much of his own opinion he jammed into this book. Sure, you can write a book chock full of your opinions, but don't try to sell it as a book of just the facts. The author's opinion seemed to be that Gary Heidnik was mentally ill, and that the prosecutor who worked against Heidnik was in the wrong, and so was the judge. And he beat that into my head- over and over and over.
I couldn't even finish this. Don't bother with this one, unless you're absolutely beyond desperate for some reading on Gary Heidnik.
