11:15 am - Apparently
|

Some people presume that "educated" people are somehow limited to only those concepts used by our predecessors. To those miseducated individuals, I will say only that one is not a philosopher by simply saying what previous philosophers have said, but by doing what previous philosophers have done, which is crafting conceptual systems; similarly for mathematicians and scientists, given that the quest for greater understanding of reality is logically endless. I will assert that we ought to craft conceptual systems, not only for the purpose of analyzing and synthesizing concepts, but for integrating concepts with experience in apparently useful ways. Useful in the sense that they allow us to predict and consequently manipulate our experiences with greater reliability and precision.

Even if El Presidente "declassified" Plame's information, it's still criminal; regardless of their protestations otherwise, there is no reasonable explanation of the chain of events except that it was politically motivated. US intelligence assets were lost in a time of war as a result of the actions of the administration; that is "adhering to [the] Enemies [of the People of the United States of America], giving them Aid and Comfort", by definition. Consequently, this administration is guilty of treason and is, literally, a criminal regime.

I had a discussion with my girlfriend the other day about this, we have each come to some conclusions but it was a thought I hadn't previously had and am curious to see what you all think.
What factors contribute to us calling a place "home"?
Is it possible to have more than one "home"?
Is it possible to not have a "home" at all?
Is the cliche' "home is where the heart is" true? Is still still something more to it?
To maybe inspire more thought I'll give the small back story.
I have lived on my own for almost 2 years now, totally new state, new house, new job, new life essentially, and yet when I refer to back in Denver (the house I grew up in where my folks live) I say "back home". It suddenly struck me as strange the other day that I do that. I began to wonder then when that will change, or if it ever will. When I get married will I start calling the house where my wife and children are home? Will I call them both home? Is home even a specific place (eg building/city) or is it a general place or dare I even say "feeling"?
What is the importance of having this thing known as a "home"? Would it be bad if you didn't have one and were always "on the go"?
I have no idea what kind of responses I'm looking for, I guess just a little study of words that fascinated me that I'd love to see others thoughts about.
enjoy

11:55 am - Granddaughter yanks grandma's feeding tube

There were many of you that couldn't understand why the Schiavo case was such a big deal. Many were saying silly things like, "She's in a vegetative state so . . . ." and "I wouldn't want to live like . . . ." and "if she had only haed a living will." Well this article shows why the Schiavo case was a big deal. Now we will murder anyone who is an inconveince. This is a wicked wicked turn of events. We as a nation will pay for this evil.
Granddaughter yanks grandma's feeding tube http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=43688 In a situation recalling the recent death of Terri Schiavo in Florida, an 81-year-old widow, denied nourishment and fluids for nearly two weeks, is clinging to life in a hospice in LaGrange, Ga., while her immediate family fights desperately to save her life before she dies of starvation and dehydration.
Mae Magouirk was neither terminally ill, comatose nor in a "vegetative state," when Hospice-LaGrange accepted her as a patient about two weeks ago upon the request of her granddaughter, Beth Gaddy, 36, an elementary school teacher. In her living will, Magouirk stated that fluids and nourishment were to be withheld only if she were either comatose or "vegetative," and she is neither. Nor is she terminally ill, which is generally a requirement for admission to a hospice.
Yes, this is cross posted. It is way too important to not let everyone possible know.

10:26 am - States Debating Photo IDs at Polls
|

starchaser57
|
INDIANAPOLIS -- Legislation that would require voters to show photo identification before casting ballots has touched off fierce debate in three states, with opponents complaining the measures represent a return to the days of poll taxes and Jim Crow.
Lawmakers in Georgia and Indiana walked off the job to protest the proposals, which they say would deprive the poor, the elderly and minorities of the right to vote. Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle, a Democrat, has already vetoed a similar measure and has vowed to do so again. Story Continues Below
Republicans argue the bills would restore voter confidence and eliminate fraud without overly burdening voters, most of whom have driver's licenses or photo IDs anyway. "I want everyone to be able to vote - once," said Indiana state Sen. Victor Heinold, a Republican. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2005/4/3/214608.shtml
I am all for this. I am sick to death of the braying of the donkey party. This will not deprive the poor or the elderly or minorities of the right to vote. All they have to do is get a free picture ID. They should have one already. If they do not, they don't need to vote. I am sick of the belly aching of the democrats on this and many issues. They do not care about the rights of the poor or the elderly or minorites. They are worried that this will make it more difficult to cheat at the polls.

This was written in the Daily Record (Ellensburg, Washington paper) on Wed. Oct. 6, 2004. It was written by Mathew Manweller who is a Central Washington University political science professor.
The title of the article was "Election determines fate of nation." http://members.aol.com/viperash50/fate/fate.html "In that this will be my last column before the presidential election there will be no sarcasm, no attempts at witty repartee. The topic is too serious, and the stakes are too high. ( Read more...Collapse )

1:42 am - POLITICS AND SPORTS
|
|
anotherg
|
I am new here. I just write something about politics and sports at my own journal entry.
POLITICS AND SPORTS
Just heard on NPR radio that most sports fans are Republicans. Most Democrats are not so interested in sport events (football, baseball, NASCAR ect).
This finding indicates psychological profile of two political views. Competive sports always produce winner and loser. Fans roots for their team to win. Their hope is to win and willing to take the risk of loss. Such competitive psychology make them believe society should be such competitive environment. They do not favor equal results. Every body is responsible for their own fate. This reflects Rebulican political philosophy as fighter and competitors.
Democrats dislike competitive sports. They tend to have sympathy for losers. They would rather avoid such conflicts. Team work and equality are more important than letting a few people become winners at expense of others (losers). People of such psychological profile tend to be more liberal and democrats. They favor stability over polarity due to competition

So in US History me and Jessy were being really funny, Nam told us about this girl named Ruth who was nice to Jews but a Nazi and then when things got bad she just kind of abandoned her Jewish friends and told on anyone who talked to them. So Jessy dubbed her (and I agreed) as “Little Red Nazi Hood.” And you know what I figured out that period? That Bush is so totally HITLER! Think about it, Hitler was to Jews as Bush is to Gays. It won’t be long before gay people have to wear rainbows on their heads and then Bush will send us all away and kill us… and he’ll put us all in isolation with a member of the opposite sex so that no sex or unchristian practices can occur… he will try and wipe out “America’s little homosexual problem”. Who really has the problem with it? He does, him and his tater tot fascism that has become the bible ruled government of the United States. Does he even realize that throwing a bible at a homo will do nothing? Still he tries, he tries and tries but no prevail. Those goddam faggots rise and marry in the streets! BLASPHEMY! Oh dear. The suppression and attempted extermination of the homosexuals of America will do nothing but make the rebellion come harder. We will rise and he will fall. He knows he is wrong and he knows that every homosexual in the world would be right by his side when he gets injured to support him… well, to support that battery and torture of his “heart”, “mind” and pathetic body.

1:41 pm - Race Or Species?
|
|
the_padded_cell
|
A few days ago, someone said how can i be biased against someone who's a different race, followed by their comment of 'we're all human'.
This got me to thinking, please read on.
Think of a Tiger and a Lion we can both agree they are from the Cat family. But they are different species - correct?
Why are they different? These are what i've come up with. 1) Colour & slight bone structure differences. 2) Habbitat 3) Hair (as in a lions mane) 4) Generally varying in athletic ability. 5) Slight differences in how young are reered.
You can apply all of these to different races i'll use black & white people as an example. 1) Skin colour differs as does slight bone structure differences (sloped forehead and wide nostrils + enlarge lips and eyebrow ridge) 2) Originally totally different habbitats. 3) White peoples hair is a lot less coarse than a black persons. 4) In general, Black people tend to be better athletically and white people better academically (bare in mind this is a generalisation!!) Also, widened nostrils & ridged eyebrow are reasons for this - larger nostrils mean bigger intake of oxygen, and eyebrow ridge prevents sweat from entering the eyes. 5) Differences in how young are reered - originally this was very true.
However, in this day and age this is still mostly true, but certain things have changed - for example habbitat. So, are different races really 'all human' or are we all originally from the same family, but evoloution has changed us. I believe we are really a different species. It can be seen how people act, look and generally how they are.
Before you post, bare in mind i know i am racist. But this is a valid arguement - calling me narrow minded won't improove anything!!
