I know, I know. You're thinking, "How do I even know if I want to BE friends with you if I can't even read your journal? I don't know if your lj is interesting or not! What exactly am I supposed to do here?"

My journal used to be mostly public, but gradually more and more entries were friends only so I just changed it all over to a friends only journal. I have gone back and made some entries public so you can take a look and decide whether or not you enjoy reading me. I'll probably still post some public entries once in awhile. I don't know if I'll be adding many new people though because I'm a single mom who will be back in school full time very soon and I have trouble keeping up with my friends list as it is.

marx
Netflix has some 90s shows. When I was a teenager in the 90s, I didn't get to watch a lot of the shows that I wanted to because there were seven people living in the house who also had shows that they wanted to watch. So I've been revisiting some shows, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Fresh Prince, and Party of Five. Party of Five was the one show that I couldn't miss and that I watched every week, but now that I'm watching these shows again, I think that Buffy should have been my one gotta-watch show because it's so much better! I only saw an episode here and there when it was on, so it's been great watching it on Netflix.

Party of Five, on the other hand, is a really annoying show. I'm not even halfway through the first season yet and I am fed up. There's so much teen angst! The teen angst in Buffy is extremely moderate in comparison. And Charlie, the oldest brother, really gets on my nerves. He's always yelling at everyone else and being a big hypocrite. Then when someone else is like, "Hey, Charlie, stop being such a huge asshole," he's like, "I'm just upset that everyone thinks I'm an asshole when I'm being an asshole, okay? Now that I've stopped yelling, I'm going to be a super-whiny asshole!" I keep yelling, "Shut up, Charlie!" at the screen. Last night I watched the episode where he and Kirsten got engaged. They've known each other for about three months at this point. They dated for a few weeks and then she dumped him because he cheated on her. Then she was gone for a few episodes, shows up again, and finds out that she can't have kids. So he pats her on the back for a bit saying "there, there," and even though they're not actually back together at this point, he just proposes and she says yes, even though I was yelling, "Don't do it, Kirsten! You're making a huge mistake!" I don't think I'll continue to watch it.

And Buffy? It has everything: action, a strong female character who saves the world all the time, plenty of other strong female characters to back her up, exciting plot twists, comedy, and a hot librarian. I didn't think that Giles was hot when I was a teenager, but now that the character is maybe ten years older than me instead of 30, I can appreciate his hotness a lot more. I've also found re-watching episodes of the Fresh Prince to be fun.

How about you, lj? Have you gone back and watched episodes that you enjoyed in your youth? Which ones have stood the test of time? Which ones embarrass you? Which ones make you think, "How could I stand to watch this crap every week?"

I went home to see my family for a week, and to see the big Mumford and Sons concert in Simcoe. While I was there, my sister told me a story that my Grandpa had told her about one of our ancestors.

This happened in Quebec in the 1600s, or maybe early 1700s. Our male ancestors were apparently great big strapping men (my sister said, "I don't how that happened though because all of the men in our family now are short.") The ancestor in question had just bought a new horse in another town and was riding home. There was a house on the way, and the people there told him to come in and they'd feed him a meal for a good price and let him stay the night. So he went in, and as soon as he went in they boarded up the door and they were going to kill him and steal his new horse. He broke the door in two, ran out, got his horse, and went home. The next day, he told his friends about it and they didn't want the people to get away with it (I guess there wasn't much in the way of law enforcement back then.) So they all went back to the house, boarded it up, and burned it down with everyone inside.

I think my ancestor overreacted a bit.

Does livejournal not have writer's block anymore? I like giving smart ass answers and complaining about how dumb the questions are! :(
4th-May-2012 09:58 pm - Handbags? What?
marx
I just randomly noticed that I have a tag for "handbags." I thought, "WTF, that's a little out of character," so I clicked and there was one entry about a girl rolling her eyes at me when I asked to her to move her handbag so I could sit down when I was pregnant, lol.

HANDBAGS OMG YOU GUIZE. YEAH!!!!!!
