Finished in 2018

There wouldn't be much of a post here if I only showed finished quilts from 2018... You know me, I'm slow.  But I did finish some involved paper pieced blocks. Wanna see?

 for H2H

 for H2H

These 3 flag blocks were for Alicia's friend who passed.

This is one of a variety of small blocks made into mug rugs for my sister.

This quilt is now finished and ready to send - just need an address.

Working on the airplanes and circles now.  I don't know why, but I liked the patterns (paper pieced, don't ya know).

I also worked on a failed swan...just couldn't get the beak to work out - no picture either.

I did finish 3 quilts, and some of those paper pieced blocks took longer than the quilts.

So that was 2018.  No resolutions, no plans other than to do better.  I think I can manage that one, but I've set the bar pretty low.

Hope you have a wonderful New Year, and fun tonight.
Hugs,
Terri

Still reading the 5th of Outlander...

Jamie just got bit by a poisonous snake while out hunting and only Roger nearby.... Claire is at home 10 miles away.  I gotta get back there - quickly.

So here's what I've been sewing - wonky stars for Alycia's QoV block along.  8 of them

some closeups... the blue one (between the red ones) is my first attempt ...I did figure it out later.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

And even though it has been moved 2 times in the past year (really not even a year) it still is having flowers. My croton...
 and at another angle....

And here are some of the newest and only Halloween plants I made up for this year.

Another batch

I made some sedum from a batch we bought from the local nursery. I only have about 36 plants for this year. I don't know how many trick or treaters we will have at our new house. I guess they'll be first come first served.

Happy Sewing (& reading),

Block Drive for QoV...

Check it out. Alycia at Alycia Quilts is having a Block Drive for QoV. It's a wonky star pattern that she wants. I love that pattern.  Click on her name here, or on the html address to see what it's all about.

There are prizes,  too, starting with a giveaway today... Don't delay.... check on it right away.

Folsom Quilt Show, Puddles and Found Rainbow Blocks

I went Saturday last to see the Folsom Quilt and Fiber Guild Show... took some pictures of the entries that impressed me...Like these:

I'm always impressed by the applique. Sew pretty, sew difficult.

This picture and the one below are for Melanie, and those of you who embroider on your quilts. I liked the simplicity of the whole quilt.

Imagine making all those Yoyo pieces! Colors look like the 30s. Huge "quilt".

I liked this for a QoV. Sometimes it's the idea I like.

This one (above and below) was really different. Even looking closely, I couldn't tell if the red doodles were quilting or just "written" on there.

These two are on my quilt bucket list.
Isn't the border treatment interesting?

And a fish. I have a book with the directions, just never tried it yet.
(Too many quilts, not enough time.)

 **************

Here is Johnson Lake - puddles in our front yard. It didn't rain that much, but the ground was dry, and it takes a while for it to absorb. This was the first time (in 14 years that we have lived here) we had puddles this big on the lawn.

Look what I found while digging in my fabric boxes to find the 9.5" rotary cutter ruler. (Still haven't found it.)  Blocks made several years ago during the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I've got some other blocks started, too, so I think this one might work for an H2H quilt donation...
It's coming soon. Sarah is getting ready.

That's all for now!
See you in the funny papers.

Hugs,
Terri

Starting a New Quilt - while the current one is still on the design wall

So what else is new? I'm starting a new quilt while the previous one is still on the design wall.  (You can't say you don't do this.... I've seen your blogs, and your UFOs.)  It'll spark my synapses to start something new, and maybe get this new quilt done on time (beginning of February - new granddaughter). Besides I'm having pink withdrawal symptoms... NEED PINK!

The pattern will be the same as her Grandpa's quilt seen here:

Of course, grandgirl's will be pink, yellow and lime green (my favorite combo) and only Xs and the pattern has been reduced to 1/2 the size... I was thinking hearts at first. Well, we will see.

Here's the pile of fabrics chosen and the pattern.

Here's the QoV on the design wall. I'm not removing that. See on the left where I've started adding the last of the blocks. The vacant blocks are white in position #1. I thought that would give it a finished look, but it seems a bit confusing... What do you think?   (As usual, the sewing room is cold, so I've plugged in the space heater again. Socket is right in the middle of the quilt! What were they thinking?

Anyway, I'm linking up to A Creative Princess to show off some progress. I'll bet you all are tired of seeing this one. I'll have some baby blankie blocks for you in a couple of days.

Hugs,
Terri

Report on the Lighted Seam Ripper

Here's the thousand words...

As you can see the seam ripper lights, magnifies and slips into the 15 stitches to the inch stitches really easily. The working end can swivel a bit so it is at an angle you prefer. (That's the first paper pieced block of a QOV I'm thinking of giving to my Son who will be retiring from the Air Force within a year. All the blocks will have either a blue or red center and white around the edges. I might add a strip of white between rows, too.)

You know we've  been packing to move - 2,000 miles away.  We're finding things while we pack...

This is the Hubby in his old letter jacket from High School. (His sister used the jacket after he went to the military, and the letters have never been seen since.) And the old glasses he wore when we were dating....  I know, why did I marry him? Anyway, he makes me laugh, and that's a good thing. We are lucky he couldn't fit into the gym shorts... very lucky.

See in the background the "end of boot camp" pictures of our two sons? I'm very proud of them.

So it's Friday (again and already)! Really doesn't mean much when you are retired. But I hope you all are enjoying a lovely (sew filled) weekend.

Hugs,
Terri
