I need people to give me suggestions for "lucky charms" and "unlucky charms" So far I have horseshoes, rabbits foot, 4 leaf clover, rainbow. So anything else, please let me know (I'm not talking about the cereal, so I don't want pots of gold or red balloons). Thanks for any help. |

next week I sign up for classes for next quarter. I have 9 credits I have to take, I need 12 to be full time. So I need to take an elective, which I don't need. I have decided on either Culinary History or Personal Chef. I think I am kind of leaning towards Personal Chef because it will help me, I believe it will focus on cooking for special needs (and for what I want to do, vegan/vegetarian would be "special need"). I think Culinary History could help to, it would show why foods developed the way they did, then I would know the rules and how to break them. So while I am leaning more towards one, I'm still debating, any suggestions would be appreciated. PS. I have this project where we all drew food items from a hat and have to write a paper on it, including recipes. Well I got "chocolate" which everyone thought would be so easy, but I knew it wouldn't. See, I can't just list desserts, which is why everyone thought it would be easy. The history part of the project is easy, but I need recipes that aren't desserts. I can only include so many chocolate mole's. |

| Inquisition's only release Revolution.... I Think It's Called Inspiration is being re-released today, so go buy it. This album has been long out of print, and even harder to find it on CD, I have it on vinyl already. The band featured Thomas of Strike Anywhere, and members of Ann Berretta and River City High. The CD is remastered and it sounds great. It's what Strike Anywhere would sound like if they were a pop punk band instead of a hardcore band. Oh yeah, it's on AF records (booo, but still get it, it's an amazing disc). |

btw, the ones no one got were ISIS and Old Man Gloom respectively. If you followed the hint I left in the comments, both bands feature Aaron Turner, and OMG has members of Converge and Cave In (which is why I said from Boston). Anyway, on with the show... 1. Open a music player 2. Go to 'all music'/'library'. 3. Hit shuffle/repeat/randomise. 4. Find photos of the first 10 artists/bands that come up (no repeats and no cheating). 5. Have people guess who the artists/bands are. (no cheating and looking at the source codes or anything.) 6. Paste this in your journal and do it too, so I can have fun guessing as well ( maybe I will pick some less obscure bands this time...Collapse ) |

Contrary to popular belief, I am alive. 4.0 first quarter in culinary school. This quarter involves being in class from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM 2 and sometimes 3 days a week (alternating Wednesdays). Still cooking things I can't eat, but every once in a while we make stuff I can eat. I'm glad the rain finally ended. |

I'm not sure exactly when I updated last, but I am all moved. Still unpacking, but moved. I still need various items of furniture but that will be solved soon enough. Sunday afternoon I met Chris at the Fung Wah in Chinatown. Chilled out at my place for a while before heading to New Jersey. Asbury Park sucks. The Stone Pony was an interesting venue. I saw some people I could have gone without seeing, and a few people I wasn't expecting to see. The Loved Ones opened, they played a good set, I can't believe that I have seen them like 10 times in barely over a year. I was bummed that they didn't play "arsenic" and instead played 3 new songs. The Bouncing Souls were next, I had never seen them "open" a show before, I have only ever seen them headlining. They opened with tons of old songs, but then ended with lots of stuff I actually knew. It was probably the best I have seen them too. They did a Bruce Springsteen cover, but I couldn't for the life of me tell you what song they played. It was crazy watching Dan Yemin on the side of the stage singing along and even the ridiculous stage dives he did during the Bouncing Souls set. Finally it was time, I was right at the front of the stage, and it was time for Lifetime. They opened with Daneurism, Rodeo Clown, and Young Loud and Scotty. The set was so good, but after about 2/3 of it I just couldn't take it any more so I went to the back and watched the end of the set. All 5 of them seemed so happy to be playing those songs again, well not so much Ari, he just seemed to be going through the motions. Following the show it was time to head home, I was unable to hear anything. At midnight I got a phone call of people singing happy birthday, it was appreciated and made me smile. The next day, Monday, my phone was installed way too early, but in another week I will have DSL and won't have to steal someone else's wireless. Took Pip down to the park to run around, it was really hot out. Around 3:30 we headed to Manhattan, went to Kate's for dinner, it was good as usual, I think that is my favorite vegetarian place in the city. Headed to CBGBs when we finished eating. The line was already around the corner of 1st street. I saw lots of other people I knew. The show was sold out before we were even around the corner, I guess the presale/guest list was a big one. Whatever, I had tickets, and I got in. I should have bought a t shirt, because I liked the design and it was for a good cause, not SaveCBGB. However, the same person I didn't want to see at Lifetime was at this show, and of course, firmly planted by the merch booth. Take My Chances was first, I thought they were way better today than they were the other time I saw them. Next was Voice in the Wire, played well, but I still don't know the songs well enough to sing along. They have a new bass player and a fill in singer. I really hope they can recover and keep going, I think they really have a good thing going. It was finally time for the reason everyone was tehre for, the reunions. Grey Area was first. I have listened to their CDs a couple times, and seeing them made me wish I had listened to them more. This reunion was with Vinny Value on drums, which is apparently something that hasn't happened the other times they reunited in recent years. They covered "young til I die" which I don't know who is by originally, but it was done well. Next was the moment I was waiting for, Kid Dynamite. So good, the set started out with a hug between Dan and Jason, which was good to see because I really thought the 2 hated each other. All 4 of them seemed happy to be playing those songs too. They played "fuckuturn" and "bookworm" and really that made my day. Ernie Token Entry/Grey Area came out and they played "birthday" which was really cool, being as it was my birthday. Excellent set, I couldn't have asked for a better 2 days. I went to get a shirt at the end of the show, but they had sold out. Now I just need to wait for shirtsforacure to post them so I can order one. I got tickets for the Against Me! show they are playing for CMJ. It's a really weird lineup. I know they are playing Irving Plaza with Coheed and Cambria headlining and the Draft (3/4 of Hot Water Music). I understand 2 of those bands playing together, but really Coheed and Cambria headlining this showcase is weird. I made a vegan hollandaise sauce tonight, I am pretty proud of myself for that. Within the past week I have determined that "warbrain" is the best Alkaline Trio song of their post-Asianman career. |

About 300 cats, nearly a third of them dead, were removed from an elderly woman’s Virginia home after neighbors complained of a stench coming from the house, police said yesterday. The house, less than a mile from late president George Washington’s historic Mount Vernon estate, looked neat from the outside with manicured lawns and bright flowers, but inside it was overflowing with wild cats, feces and urine. “Cats were coming out of the cabinets and drawers and were inside the walls. There were hundreds of them,” Fairfax County Police officer Richard Henry said. He said animal control officers removed 273 cats – 86 of them dead – over the weekend and slapped a condemnation order on the door of the house. The woman, her husband and daughter were told to leave. Later on, Henry said, the woman returned and attempted to smuggle an additional 30 cats from the house. These animals were confiscated, bringing the total to more than 300. Ruth Knueven, 82, was charged with failing to care for her animals and of improperly disposing of them. Dozens of dead cats were found in plastic bins around the house. |

why must you do this to me Hellfest? I did not want to attend you this year but then on the 4th round of band announcements you add a ton of bands that I want to see. Here is my current list of bands I would like to see and wouldn't mind seeing at Hellfest 2005. Hopefully they all play one day on some background stage. Against Me!, Betrayed, Bouncing Souls, Boy Sets Fire, Champion, Comeback Kid, Converge, Curl Up and Die, Cursed, Dead Hearts, Glass and Ashes, Good Clean Fun, H2O, The Loved Ones, Misery Signals, None More Black, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Rise Against, Smoke or Fire, Stretch Arm Strong, Strike Anywhere, This is Hell, With Honor. Now I know that some of these bands have shows scheduled around NYC the days preceeding and proceeding Hellfest, so I want to try to only go 1 day if possible, but as of now I think I know at least 6 bands I want to see that are playing different days. |

I am going to be heading across the country in a little more than a week for my friends wedding. I need to know if someone would be willing to watch my puppy for me. I'm driving and will end up being gone for about 10 days (may 20 - 30). My roommates won't be around as school just finished and they are all going home for a week or so, or just other places. He is 4 months now, almost house broken, for the most part he does go outside. He gets along with other dogs, especially ones that will play with him. He especially loves people. If you have any questions about him I can answer them for you. I really don't want to have to put him in a kennel for that long and the person I was going to leave him with can no longer take him. If he can meet you (and animals if you have them) before hand, that would be great. He isn't so good with cats (sometimes he doesn't care sometimes he chases them under cars). Lastly, he scavenges everything, and I mean everything. I can drive him out to you, I can provide you with everything he needs (food, treats, toys, etc). I can compensate you for your time and kindness also. I just really want to avoid putting him in a kennel as much as possible because it is for such a long time. |

The other day I picked up the new Alternative Press with Weezer on the cover, there is an ad for a band called "Between Home And Serenity" and in said ad they mention "over 240,000 fans on Purevolume and over 20,000 fans on Myspace." Yes, you just read that correctly. That is so deceptive. Granted I have never heard the band, and before seeing this didn't recognize them, although I'm sure they tried adding me before. I'm sure most people know how Myspace operates, and some people and bands just add anyone and everyone. Of those "20,000 fans" I wonder how many actually listened to them or whatever rather than just adding them. Just trying to make a name for themselves, but I just think it is stupid to mention how many Myspace friends you have in an advertisement. Pip is doing well, he likes it here, I still need to get used to his bark, I think it is way more aggressive just based on his breed and he isn't trying to be threatening. He still has lots of training to go and hopefully someday soon he starts pottying outside. Speaking of, he got his shot the other day so he can go outside now, I took him to the shelter he came from and he seemed happy to see the people there and he even got to play with his brother, Playdoh (who is still not adopted if you are interested). He also got microchipped, so he is now a cyborg. I don't know the extent of what it does, but to my understanding it is in case he looses his collar and runs away they will know who he belongs to and how up to date he is on shots and things. He went to Washington Square Park and enjoyed sniffing and eating everything he could. He has a bit of a Napoleon Complex to, he likes picking on dogs that are way bigger than him, one day he will be bigger than them though. I got NY plates for my car, it's mine and registered in NY. This is mentioned solely due to the awful experience at the DMV. I got there, and was about 15 numbers away from being called, so I thought I would be out of there without a problem, especially considering 3 people were calling registration numbers. It got to be about 8 away from my number and all 2 people calling registration took a break while the other start calling licensing numbers. 30 minutes later someone complained to someone, and while the original people were on break someone else started servicing registration people and 15 minutes later I was done. $95 to register my car, and it took over 2 hours of waiting, if I knew where to go to file a complaint I would. How about NYC improves their services before throwing tons of money behind the Olympics. Recently I have been less than thrilled with Foodswings. I want to love and support the place, but they aren't "cheap" anymore, as the prices have slightly risen in recent months. I was recommended this place Pan Pangea on 1st Ave and it is way cheaper, and maybe better in some aspects. I went to the 1 year anniversary for Foodswings and it took a long time to get food, which is understandable because they were busy, but then you get french toast and it's burned and 2 of the 3 slices are end pieces, they forget someones order entirely. I continued to go though, even though sometimes it seems the food isn't as good. I went Saturday night and enjoyed my sandwich, however I went to brunch there this morning, and while my sandwich was alright, my girlfriends was served on a moldy roll. Not even slightly moldy, noticeable green spots of it and lots of white "pre-mold" all over. I took the sandwich back, we had gotten it to go, and got a refund and went to Kate's instead. Maybe this only happens to me, and I'm not saying don't support them, but it is frustrating to have things like this happen a lot. High prices for only "decent" food. Sometimes overcooked and less than desirable. Serving bad(as in rotten) food. Will I still go there, most likely, but I think for a while I am going to be frequenting other places, such as Kates, Teany, and Pan Pangea, even though they are all in Manhattan, and Foodswings isn't a far walk at all. Tuesday, Kevin Devine is playing a benefit show at Northsix. $10 advance, I think I will be picking up some tomorrow if anyone is interested. It's $12 day of. I don't think he is headlining for those that say shows there go too late. As I said it's a benefit, I don't know the exact organization, but it's raising money for the opposition of the genocide happening in the Darfur region of Sudan. I passed up a show of his a month or so ago, and I really do want to go see him. 1 month from now I will be heading to Iowa to hang out with Bob before he gets married. Kind of nuts, I know I am missing tons of good shows that week, but whatever I saw the Suicide FIle a few years ago, so no need to feel obligated to go to the "reunion." It would have been awesome to see Silent Majority though. I'm hoping to go to a couple new states while out there, hopefully I can make it into Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Michigan, maybe even Wisconsin. I am driving there and back, so some of those I might be able to sidetrack myself to on the way out there, others may be daytrips once I'm out there. Every state laying in my path there and back I have been through or to before, hence the side trips to the ones I have not been to. |

This past weekend has been pretty phenomenal. The original plan was pretty great sounding, but even though plans on 2 of the days changed, it has still been great. Friday was a trip to Philadelphia. I went with my girlfriend and it was just an incredible day with her. We first went to South Street and had a great veggie cheesesteak at Giannas, I know a lot of vegan and vegetarian people that don't like it there, but I found it to be good, better than what NYC vegetarian places call cheesesteaks. We walked on South Street for a bit but then decided to head for the show we were going to. Now the rumors of the show were true. It was in a small room and they were being strict about admittance. We got there 2 hours early, and got in without a problem. However, the wait outside was long and cold. The first act to play was a solo artist from Philly, who lots of people seemed to be into, Erik Peterson. I did enjoy his stuff, I guess it would be compared to older acoustic Against Me! or any other punk rock act with an acoustic guitar. The Loved Ones followed. They played 6 of the 7 songs they have released between the demo and EP, plus 2 new songs. Jason from Kid Dynamite was there and they sent a song out to him, because he did their video (www.jadetree.com and go to their band page to watch it). I enjoyed their set, but like I always say, Dave seemed pretty sober so they weren't their best. Smoke or Fire was next. They mostly played songs from their new album Above This City, but played 2 older songs also. I really enjoyed them, and it's good to finally be familiar with their material. Against Me! headlined, and it was awesome being at such a small show for them, I know tons of people got turned away from the show. After 2 songs the university wanted to stop the show because it looked like things were getting rough, but no one had a problem with anything, so they kept playing. Now they played 4 new songs. The first 2 had a pretty dancy beat and bass line, and seemed like the new trend in indie rock, this "dance punk" crap. I wasn't a fan, although the lyrics could be good for all I know. The third song sounded more like Eternal Cowboy and was about being in a van, I liked it, the 4th new song was "problems" which is on the infamous Stolen Demo and the DVD. They did close with the song "impact" which was pretty awesome. I picked up a screened AM! poster called "Attack of Against Me!" and it's like a movie poster, pretty cool. I also got the brand new Sink Florida, Sink 7" with dicut case. It's pretty awesome looking, I still need to listen to it though. Lauren got a new AM! shirt too. After the show we headed back to South Philly to see her friend. We went to a party where I felt pretty uncomfortable, mostly due to allergies, but I still tried to be social and have a good time. I did meet some nice folks. The drive home wasn't bad at all. We got back to NYC at 4am. Now Saturday I was supposed to go to Connecticut for my friends birthday party/show. However, I was approved for my puppy, and he was going to get dropped off on Saturday. I was hoping they would drop him off early enough so that I could go, but they couldn't get him here til 3, and then not until 6. So Pip got dropped off, I signed the paperwork and he was mine, well for now he is still fostered out to me because he needs one more shot, which he gets Wednesday. He has adjusted very well and loves us a lot. He snores a lot when sleeping and doesn't always make it to the newspaper when going to the bathroom, but he is so loveable. I will just need to work on training him so that he goes on the newspaper and eventually outside. he went for a ride in the care today and was a really good puppy. Last night I watched the movie Closer, I enjoyed it, pretty cool how things come around in the end. As for today, I was originally planning on going to see Paint It Black in Asbury Park, but when I found out about the puppy I decided today would be good to bond with him. Pip has been very playful today and has had many bursts of energy and has been into biting anything and everything, but he is teething. I watched another movie I rented, Flight of the Phoenix, I thought it was good for what it was. It wasn't what I was expecting based on the previews, but I still enjoyed it, I guess it is based off a book. I have been doing a lot of cooking recently, and most of it has been turning out pretty good. I found a fake meatloaf recipe which turned out surprisingly good and just made vegan french toast which also turned out great. I made Pip a myspace, so check it out. |

A-F Records will be re-issuing Inquisition's Revolution, I Think It's Called Inspiration on compact disc format this Fall, with an LP version to follow soon thereafter. The label had this to say about the band/release: INQUISITION released a single CD & LP years ago entitled "Revolution, I Think It's Called Inspiration", which was a HUGE influence on Anti-Flag, among others. After Inquisition broke up, the members went on to bands you might be familiar with: Strike Anywhere (who, incidentally, were named after an Inquisition song entitled "Strike Anywhere"), Ann Beretta and River City High. We're working closely with Thomas from Strike Anywhere to make this a very special reissue, having dug into the archives for the original recording tapes, artwork, and a whole bunch of other cool stuff! I have had this on vinyl for some time now, it sounds like Strike Anywhere simply because of Thomas' vocals, but I think it is way more poppy (the guitar player did go on to form River City High). No religion, no faith in compromise, no religion, my mind will stay my own! |

So I am writing an essay for a college application (yes I am reapplying to school to finish a bachelors degree, I'm trying to not be stubborn). I'm kind of having trouble thinking of ideas, as the only bands I can come up with to write about I don't know a lot of background about. For all I know the answer could be right under my nose and I don't realize it. Anyway, here is the essay topic: Critical essay. Choose a popular solo artist, duo, or group in any genre of music in the last 50 years who you feel could have benefited from better promotion. Discuss how this artist was promoted. Imagine you were an executive in the recording industry. How would you have promoted this artist differently? Please limit your response to three double-spaced typed pages. If you can suggest a band and some info, it would help me out a ton, and not to rush or anything, but I am looking to send this out by Sunday/Monday. In other news, the Smoke or Fire CD is really good. I am making plans to go to Philly to see Smoke or Fire and Against Me! There is a parade of Mexicans going down my street and they have a zombie Jesus. I got another parking ticket, only there was just an envelope. |

| For the past month of my life I have spent a lot of time with this girl, who I like a lot. I like spending time with her, and I would like to think that she enjoys my company as well. However, today I committed the biggest fuck up I have committed so far. Now I will say that relationships are not like riding bikes, you do forget a few things, and you are a bit rusty with things at first, maybe eventually I will hit a decent stride again. However, during this first month, I have made some very stupid mistakes. I'm doing all I can to not fuck up. The entire time that I was single, almost 3 years, I kept saying to myself, "when I meet someone I'm not going to fuck it up." Well apparently I find ways to fuck things up even when I am trying my hardest to not do so. I'm human and I'm not perfect. Onto my mistake. Following a sporadic but lengthy conversation about weight, the words fat and chubby did slip from my mouth. I am not comfortable talking about weight, but it was being discussed. I feel like a scumbag and an asshole for saying it, but it was said and I can't retract it. I wish I hadn't said it, as I do really like this girl, I think she is beautiful, and I like her body just the way it is. I've never had intentions of insulting someone or offending them. I'm apologizing to her, because those words should have never been said. I'm apologizing to anyone that thinks less of me because of this, I didn't want to let you down, even though I have probably let myself down more than I have you. I don't think anything I do will be good enough to make up for my near constant mistakes, and I wish I wasn't feeling constantly indebted and having to make things up. I'm such an asshole and a scumbag, and I really wish that I wasn't feeling that way. My stomach is in knots and I feel so much regret and sadness. |
