OCEANIA: local San Jose/South Bay student film @ CINEQUEST 2008!
Hey guys, we REALLY need some local support! Please check our film out at the Cinequest Film Festival March 6th and March 8th. More info below: Two teenagers deal with their shattered family-life in a small California coastal town.
We started filming when we were in high school (I was 17). Many of the people involved went to Piedmont Hills High School in San Jose, and some actors are from SF, Mill Valley, Palo Alto, etc. It was truly a local effort, and...
It was a rather large volunteer effort. The final budget was around $3,500 or so. Shooting took place on and off for a whole year and editing took me about nine more months. This will be our first and possibly last major screening...
We will be having two screenings: OPENING NIGHT: 03/06/08 Thursday 7:00 PM San Jose Repertory Theatre101 Paseo De San Antonio San Jose, CA 95113 CLOSING NIGHT: 03/08/08 Saturday 7:30 PM Camera 12 Cinema San Jose288 S 2nd St San Jose, CA 95113 For more info go directly to the Cinequest 2008 site: http://www.cinequest.org/event_view.php?eid=425Also, please feel free to bring friends! It would mean a lot to us to get more locals out to see the film! I'm pondering taking two or three online and one meatspace class at Chabot this year, in preparation to transfer to CSUH when possible, perhaps next fall or spring. I haven't been in college for awhile, all the classes are in subjects that should be pretty easy for me, and I really can't take fulltime on campus. For a variety of reasons, I need to be home or flexible more, and if I can't take the classes online, I can't possibly take more than six units. (Only the meatspace class is required for my major, the rest are "for fun," useful background information. One is very much an "easy A" for my GPA, but would still be a lot of fun.) Now I have friends telling me that despite their being more flexible, web-based classes are a lot harder, and that by taking a full time schedule with 75% of the classes online, I might be biting off more than I can chew. What do you think? Are they that much harder? Anyone here have experience with web-based classes at Chabot? Darfur Lecture/Discussion Monday
On Monday, Peabody Award winning filmmaker Paul Freedman will speak about the genocide that is taking place in the Darfur region of Sudan. He has spent the past 3 years researching it, has been there, and just completed a documentary on it. He'll be showing parts of the documentary at the talk. The event will take place at the Ohlone College Smith Center. He'll speak both at noon and at 7 pm. Admission is free. What's going on there dwarfs things like 9/11, Katrina, and the 2004 tsunami combined - yet very little is being reported (and if you think significant things are being done - you're in for an awakening). This lecture is kind of a unique opportunity to get an understanding of the background and what really is happening. For some more interesting background and detail, check out the advance i wrote on Newbor.com. Barry | | Thursday, January 27th, 2005 | 12:17 pm [mactavish]

Gak."Cal State Hayward is now Cal State East Bay." I figured no one sane would ever approve of such a dorky name change. | | Saturday, August 21st, 2004 | 11:06 am [mactavish]
