Shirts are here!! [12 Feb 2009|02:16pm]

Get your NSO shirts! We will be tabling in the college center next MONDAY from 10am to 4pm, but if you absolutely need yours before then just find either me, Jacob or Goran and we will set you up. They look AWESOME!

(Remember, if you pre-ordered it's $7 (babydoll $9), otherwise it's $10 and there are not very many extras so get one while you still can!)

Beginner's D&D Game [30 Jan 2009|12:38am]

stolen_valkyrie
Would anyone have time to host a beginner D&D?  You would have at least three players who would be more than happy with a classic game and casual atmosphere.  It would be fine to be a short game or whatever... just let me know either here or at lascanlan at vassar dot edu.

Historical Record: The Battle of Lakefest [05 Dec 2008|04:34pm]

beyonder
Four years back, the NSO was a slight different flavor of active org. There was a lot more dressing up, gaming, running around and sparing with wooden weapons.

At one point in 2004 the Outdoors club challenged us to a mock battle during their Lakefest event. The barefoot monkeys showed up to add another pile of panic to the mix.

The following chaos ensued, and a security guard got it on tape:
It was all very staged and rehearsed, but A stupendously fun time. Having people charging down a hill at you brandishing sticks always is. We were presented with a pie as a victory token.

at least a few of the people in attendance: beyonder, dasbooch, eyeoftomoe, iamyourgoldfish, mithrigil, catalystparadox, laurel_sea, unforgiven

I just ran across this in my archives and realized it had never been posted or shared - and that's just not in the spirit of the internet. (cross-posted to my personal journal)

NSO Alumni Database [02 Jun 2008|06:47pm]

myloveisrobotic
(Apologies to people who read this journal aren't affiliated)

ATTN: Former NSO-ers

I'm teaming up with Amy Hirst '04 to create an NSO alumni database.

The purpose of this database is two-fold:

-Have a central place for former NSOers to find information on past fellow nerds

-To provide career advice/guidance to former/current NSOers.

We want your information!
Please email

NSO.Alumni@gmail.com

And provide as much of the following information as you feel comfortable

Name
Class Year
Email Address
Phone Number
Current/Past jobs
How willing you are to be contacted by others for career advice.

Yes - essentially this is a specialized version of the alumni lists that the Vassar career office. However, lets face it, us NSOers loved sticking together, and this would be a fantastic resource for all involved.

Thanks everyone!
Dillon and Amy

Star Trek Class still needs people [05 Mar 2008|06:21pm]

ultimatefrisco
The Star Trek mini-course is still looking for people to sign up, at least 4. If you think you can do it, 6 to 8 on fridays next semester, go sign up at the activities office. It does cost 50 bucks, but the teacher (the awesome Darrell James) has actually written for Star Trek, on top of being a life-long fan and an all round ridiculously awesome guy. Also, if we don't get the other 4 people, the class will not happen. :(

Sign up soon!

Congrats! [25 Feb 2008|08:54am]

I just wanted to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who worked on/attended NonCon! This year's event was really great, and it has a lot to do with support from NSO club members (Red Shirts, I do not have enough thanks to give you) and those from the community. Both Randy and Jeph have posted on their comics that they had good times - Randy even made a RWW concerning one of the events.

Also, big thank you to everyone who just came to participate and hang out! We had a ton of cosplayers this year - a new event which was very exciting! Perhaps we'll even have to start the masquerade next year? Our webcomic panels and game room were also full, and even Anime Triva got quite a number of people.

All in all, it was a huge success, and thanks again to all who made it happen!!

From the sidebar of Questionable Content today:

" I will be at Vassar College for NonCon this weekend! You should come say hi. We'll have the Bad Decisions shirts to sell as well as a few other goodies.

See you tomorrow."

No, Jeph, I'll see YOU tomorrow! =D

The NSO's collection of Periodicals and Science Fiction Magazines has been declared a Fire Hazard by the college.

If anyone would like them, or would like to arrange for their donation to another party, please message the First Minister and plan to pick the collection up within twenty-four hours.

maid cafe/request for a ride? [17 Feb 2008|12:29pm]

mystitat
I'm so excited for noncon this weekend! I was at the galleria last weekend, and found a lacy little lolita-ish black dress at hot topic on clearance, so I am relieved to have something to wear for the maid cafe. I'm thinking about how I'll need to accessorize it, and unless anyone has a short petticoat, apron, and lacy accessories I could borrow, I feel like a trip to a fabric store is in order. I found instructions online to make a no-sew petticoat from 5-8 yards of tulle, and have some faith in my ability to sew up an apron. If anyone would care to drive, compensation can be provided!

Sixteen out of the twenty items on this list are us.  I didn't know there was a way to feel both pride and shame at the same time!

Hey guys, I have two Cowboy Bebop DVDs (the first two) that I no longer need. If anyone wants them, I would be willing to part with them for around $15 for the both of them. Lemme know.

Attn: People who want to run events [26 Jan 2008|11:48am]

stillachild
Sorry for the short notice! We are having an event scheduling meeting TOMORROW (Sunday) in UpCDC at 1PM. If you are interested in running a weekly event this semester, you are required to come. Please know what it is you want to do, and have some idea of where and when you want to do it. It is possible that not all events will be able to be on the schedule for this term. That is all!

"I have a con on February 22-24 at Vassar - yup, goin' back to Noncon. Apparently, I'm not the only one. Jeph Jacques of Questionable Content will be there, as will webcomics crossover hit R. Stevens of Diesel Sweeties, Jon Rosenberg of Goats, Meredith Gran of Octopus Pie (and others), and Scott Cloud of Boy on a Stick and Slither. So, basically, if you like webcomics you should get to Vassar in New York." - R. K. Mulholland

I love this man. Yes, yes I do.

noncon gift [10 Jan 2008|04:13am]

Thought: an amusing gift for Jeph Jacques when he comes to noncon might be a pair of drumsticks for Hannelore.
