Autumn Travel Journal: Ōfunato Onsen in Japan PART 1
The crashing waves hit the rocks, sending up white sprays into the air at Goshiki Coast. That breathtaking sight has left the deepest impression on me during this trip. From there began the memories of our two-day journey, which I would like to retrace little by little.

From the Goshiki Coast Rest House, bathed in bright sunlight! Here, we picked up some of the local specialties as souvenirs. Searching for the trail to the stunning viewpoints, we set out toward the main attraction.

The trail leading from beside the rest house to the “Raigan & Ranboudani Observation Deck.” Passing through the green pine forest, this path feels like the secret entrance to nature itself. From between the trees, glimpses of the deep blue sea quicken the heart!

Ahead, the signposts to the observation deck open up a breathtaking panorama: the deep blue sea, rugged cliffs, and the vibrant green of pine trees rooted firmly into the rocks.

Unobstructed blue, blue, and more blue! The sign reading “Goshiki Coast” confirms that you have arrived at the best spot. Sitting on a bench and feeling the sea breeze, I soaked in the magnificent view.

Waves crash and foam at the base of the cliffs. The dark, deep blue of the sea and the resilient green pines clinging to the cliffs convey both the raw power of nature and the vitality of life thriving within it.

A little further along the trail, we discovered the “Go Board” monument, from which the coast takes its name! Once offered to the Date Clan, these round black pebbles resemble Go stones, giving the coast its name.

Encountered a stone monument along the trail!

Closing of PART 1
Emerging from the sun-dappled forest path, we were greeted by a panorama of Goshiki Coast that exceeded all imagination! The cliffs carved by the waves, the endless blue sea, and the “Go Stones” monument explaining the origin of the coast’s name.
It was a wonderful time to feel the power of nature and the history and culture of this region with my own senses.
Next, we’ll head to Ofunato Onsen — a place where the blessings of the sea breeze and the echoes of history come alive.
