おれはカブト虫。
何度この樹を登ったかわからない。何度あの座を夢見たのかわからない。
疼く触角、脚が急く。
邪魔する奴は容赦しない。意気揚々。ツノをいからせ向かうのさ。
今宵もあいつ、いつもの場所に陣取って、おいしいご馳走頬張って。
周りの者は押し合いへし合い。

おれはカブト虫。
何度傷ついたかわからない。何度逃げ出したかわからない。
背中の傷が嗤っている。
みじめなもんさ。戦意喪失。尻尾を巻いて逃げるのさ。
今宵は眠ろう、少し早いが木の葉の褥（しとね）にくるまって。頭上の賑わいを聴きながら。

おれはカブト虫。
何度立ち直ったかわからない。何度舞い戻ったかわからない。
背中の傷は勲章さ。
いくら負けても知ったことか。気力充実。木の葉をどけて出発だ。
今宵もあいつ、いつもの席に陣取って、おいしいご馳走頬張って。
周りの者は押し合いへし合い。わずかな椅子を争いめぐる。
ツノが触れれば、それが戦いの始まりさ。
さあ、行こう！

軋む関節、食い込む爪。枝葉を透かして浮かぶ月。

おお満月よ、嗤ってくれるな。おれも自分が愚かしい。
おお満月よ、あんまり明るく輝くな。おれはそっちに行きたくない。
そう、おれはカブト虫。月にはなれぬ、カブト虫。

I am a beetle.
I’ve climbed this tree more times than I can count.
I’ve dreamed of that throne more times than I can recall.
Antennae throbbing, legs restless.
Whoever blocks my way—I’ll show no mercy.
Proud and bold, I march with my horn held high.
