hey, yes once again I disappeared for awhile (again) but no worries I have that essay I said I would post in like November, that is dissing Hilary Duff's "song" 'Why Not'.
“Why Not” Stick to Acting?
By Jamie Williams
Infuriating. I can’t comprehend any other word to describe the unforgivable tune, “Why Not”, that Hilary Duff calls a song. Because I’m not the type of person who judges someone before I know them, I’m not going to spend this time dissing Hilary as a person. Nevertheless, that doesn’t prevent me from voicing my opinion about her song and her singing abilities (or lack there-of). Let’s face it even people with the best personalities cannot sing and our tow-headed friend is among the bottom 10. Thousands of girls idolize Hilary, wanting to be like her in looks, talent and careers; hopefully when the world is invaded by mini- Hilary clones, they can manage to hit notes and write songs more efficiently than their fearless leader.
“You always dress in yellow when you wanna dress in gold…”
In the song, Hilary attempts to bring forth a message of being yourself and pursuing the unknown and the melody is an upbeat tempo only your nine-year-old sister could love. Hilary’s voice is so computerized in parts, she sounds like an alert one from an iMac.
Although I can understand the gist of the song, I can only have wished that Hilary and the producers would have put more depth and emotion into their writing; that alone would have improved the song completely. Too bad Miss Duff didn’t follow her own advice and look outside of the box her recording company so forcefully created.
“Let’s just get into your car go baby go.”
By the time you hear the opening notes of the song, a theme of The Lizzie McGuire Movie, it is obvious that what follows is just one more bubble-gum mistake. The song bounces from getting the attention of a boy to being true to yourself. It seems as if they are saying that having a boyfriend and being your own person is the same thing, which is not an especially good thing for pre-adolescent girls to absorb continuously. Let’s hope Hilary has better morals than that of which she sings, because she is a role model for so many. The combination of appalling vocals and repetitive tune only add to the bad karma that is produced by ignorant and derivative lyrics. Maybe she had to keep her preppy image or her manager wouldn’t let her write on her own, but whatever the cause, there is no excuse for taking on such a lifeless song, to call her own.
You’re making like I turn you off when I know you think I’m sweet.”
I guess not, because recently when I visited http//: www.alloy.com I found a “shout out” message board dedicated to none other than Hilary Duff. None of them said she was sweet, or anything remotely close to sweet.
“She can’t sing. She’s sooo fake, the last thing we need is another Britney Spears wannabe,” is only one of the many disses posted about Disney’s ex- girl next door; I was actually surprised at how many girls thought Hilary’s voice was as prickly as a pineapple. A sour, rotten, slimy pineapple, to be exact. Apparently, fellow entertainer Michelle Branch feels the same way.
“I heard that one Lizzie McGuire song, ‘Why not’,” she said, “and I said to myself, oh Lord what is happening to music?” My thoughts exactly.
Where is Music Headed?
So what has happened to music? The Lord only knows. Will there ever be a day when the music industry is lacking the crude pop music we have been forced to get accustomed to? Either way, shrill voices, computerized tunes, and phony plastic people constantly bombard us. Where are the classic tunes of Al Greene, Bob Dylan, The Temptations, and the many great artists that started it all? Maybe in a different world a different time and a different place, “Why Not” could be a classic. But we are here, now, in the present, and Hilary’s “song” is seriously lacking the traits needed for something to become and stay a true hit forever. It’s a shame that Hilary decided to stick her foot into the ever-growing melting pot of music, creating another failed attempt to be a real artist. Sad but true, Miss Duff’s singing career is “So Yesterday”.

I Hope You Don't Mind
I don't know if you'll mind or not, but I was listening to this song, and I was thinking I had to post! This song is funny, and I don't know anyone who has heard of them. Or maybe my friends and I just don't know all that much. But it's poppy, but its different.

Issue # 2 Part 1
Hey! It’s that time again! Issue #2. Yes! value_meal26 is now officially the co-manager so don’t give her any beef. I need a new name for the “New Stuff” category. I mean, I need creative juices! Any ideas Fries? Let me know what is going on inside your crusty little potato head! I am a Trendspotter for Teen people, which is cool and I just got a new Wal-Mart CD to try out and I thought I would use that for the “New Stuff”. This one song, by Jin is cool. Anyone who has something to say about an Asian rapper, why don’t you give it a try before you diss it. Eminem isn’t exactly the cookie cutter image of a rapper, but people respect him. School starts next week. My schedule sucks big time. There are so many classrooms! It’s huge! Ok well go ahead and surf this update.
In this issue we will have:
Spotlight station
Phrase of the week
Song Lyrics
New Stuff

What are listening to?
Alice 105.9 Denver
I seriously love this station. I listen to it every chance I get. They play Yellowcard, Hoobastank, Ashlee Simpson, Switchfoot, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, and so many more. I don’t know exactly how to classify the type of music they play, but I can guarantee when you turn it on there will be something you like. Also there is the “A bunch of new music” hour that plays a lot of new artists and new songs. I really enjoy this station and recommend it to anyone looking to broaden his or her music horizon. I have a lot to say about Alice, but I really think you should take my word for it and just listen up.

Phrase of the Week!

“I love your guts.” There is already a ton of hate in the world, so when you get the chance tell someone that you love their guts. They will either love you or sock you. Either way, aren’t you feeling the love?

Song lyrics
I wrote this song a few weeks ago while my friend was having a really hard time in her life. I think it’s pretty good, but I always find something that needs tweaking.

Forget
By Jamie Williams
Dedicated to Tiffany

Sometimes a temporarily lose my mind/ sit around and wonder why/ I’m stuck in between the lines. Nothing’s ever gonna close me in/ and take away my sins/ let the story begin/ I’m on my way/ Leaving this shit behind me/ It’s already too late to say goodbye------------
Chorus- I forget who I am/ I forget where I stand/ This life is tearin’ me apart/ On the inside you’ll see there’s more to me------ Until you forget –again.

Left home before my childhood had begun/ Hid it from everyone /and stuck my head in the sand/ Played a game I thought I’d never win/ and felt life caving in/ to late to be redeemed/. I’m on my way/ through this journey called life----------

I forget who I am/ I forget where I stand/ This life is tearing me apart/ on the inside you’ll see there’s more to me-------- Until you forget- again.
Bring me back----- don’t let me fall again/ I’ve been strong for you/ now I’ve gotta be strong for myself-------------

(Slowly and quietly) Sometimes I temporarily lose my mind/ sit around and wonder why/ I’m stuck in between the lines

Chorusx2
New stuff
Ok, I have been scouring every teen magazine to find some new artists/albums for this site, and finally in Teen Vogue I found what I was looking for. Seriously people should totally buy this zine because it has everything you want, but never too much. So I go these from the July issue and now I have to look in my old issues to grab] some more (but then again not too old because then they wouldn’t be new). Basically, this section is going to be new artist. I haven’t head all of them, but if you have let us know and tell us about them. Maybe we can make you a co-maintainer.

Vanessa Carlton- Harmonium
Vanessa compares this CD to a pair of jeans, saying that it’s laid back and “more spontaneous”. I enjoyed Vanessa’s last album and I didn’t think that anything could be more spontaneous than “falling from the sky”. But who knows, maybe she’ll surprise us again. I can’t wait to hear it.

Say Anything- Say Anything is a Real Boy
Say anything is a great band. I picked this CD up randomly at media play and I love it. I feel a little bit protective of them hoping that no one else will find out about them, but now that it’s been in a huge magazine I don’t think I should fight it anymore. The band calls their album ‘a punk rock musical” which weirdly says it all. They opened for Dashboard Confessional so that automatically makes them cool. Seriously check them, out. Even if “rock” makes you sick, I swear, listen to the stuff!

Ja Rule- Rule The INC.
I like Hip Hop, ok. But I don’t know if I like this album. Ja Rule is a great rapper, when he’s doing a duet (which is does with Ashanti, Nas, and Mary J. Blige). But somehow the songs on this album don’t appeal to me nearly as much as “Living it up”. I do agree with him when he says, “this reflects who I am”. But seriously, maybe he is a better mainstream pimp, than soulful crooner.

Sahara Hotnights- Kiss and Tell
I have not heard this album, but by the looks of it it’ll be a good one. (Have you heard it? dbl_trbl139@yahoo.com) The magazine gives it 2 1/2 out of 4 stars, but they also say that they have hot style to boot. So I guess they have more backing them then a connection to The Hives (lead singer, Maria Andersson is married to Pelle Almqvist) . So I think I’ll check them out and let you know what I think.

Well that’s all I got for ya! Hope you liked it

Issue #1
WELCOME!WELCOME!WELCOME!

Hey! Last time I updated I gave you a brief overview of what this community would be. After appointing my friend value_meal26 to be my co-manager, we decided to make this more like webzine than a journal. However, you can still totally write in here whatever you want. Since, school is starting and both of us have a busy schedule, it will be hard to update everyday. Nevertheless, you can count on at least one weekly update and one monthly mega-issue. Each issue will contain a journal entry, a music or movie review, and song lyrics. Whenever possible we will include updates about new artists and albums. Since neither of us can be in two places at once it’s impossible to know about every new artist or concert. So if you live in areas other than Colorado and know of any, we would love to hear about it! We need all the help we can get! There are only 3 rules:
1) Say what you think and feel no one will judge you here
2) Don’t judge someone by his or her taste in music. If they like something that you don’t, feel free to state your opinion, but please don’t’ bash them.
3) Be Yourself. We are interested in getting to know you, whoever that person is. I know a lot of people are completely different online then they are in real life, so just be who you want to be.
This is officially the first issue if Musical Rebellion so please feel free to post anything you want, or e- mail me whenever you can. If you know a lot about the music scene and want to help us out just contact me however you can. My personal journal is under bballhottie1355 so visit it to learn more about me or just to talk! Thanks a lot!
Mucho amore!

What are you Listening to?
These days there are almost too many radio stations to choose from. I decided to spotlight radio stations I listen to in Denver. If you have some you listen to in other cities l tell me about them and I can post it!
KS107.5 I know that some of you are probably groaning in agony thinking, “Not more Rap!” but here me out ok. I do listen to some Hip Hop/ R&B and I do enjoy it. I think that rap music is a great outlet for energy and emotion. Lately it seems like rap is deteriorating. Basically if you can write a song about being a thug who drinks and has numerous one-night stands you are a rap artist.
Being a girl, rap does tend to be sexist and make woman seem more like objects than people. This isn’t how rap always was. The rappers in the 90’s were more poets than pimps and they sang about real issues more than being wasted. However, rap is fun, it’s the easiest to dance to and once you figure out the words it’s _______ to be able to belt out the more than just the chorus. Here are some rap songs that still are more uplifting than coke sniffing:
1) Kanye West- “Jesus Walks”
2) Nas- “I know I can”
3) Black Eyed Peas- “Where is the Love?”
These are just good to dance/listen to
1) Black Eyed Peas “Hey Mama”
2) D12-“My Band”
3) Usher feat. Lil’ John, and Ludacris- “Yeah”
Yet the main reason I chose KS107.5 this week is because of Sunday nights. Every week from 9-11 (mountain time) Tony v. and JJ do a show about real life issues. Sometimes they bring in professionals or sometimes it’s just them, but they always have important issues to talk about. This past week they were discussing things that Offended people and stereotyping. Which was a very broad subject, but they made it work. I heard callers talking about everything from racism, to gangs, to verbal abuse. I think that because Tony is a cool guy, who has been through a lot of the same problems, kids can relate to him and actually listen to what he has to say. And unlike some DJ’s he actually does have something to say. Like last night, he convinced a kid not to join a gang. I may not seem like a big deal, but he could have saved his life. So even if you don’t like rap, be sure to check “What’s Up?” Whenever you can.

Artist of the Month
Having your own reality show on MTV may boost you popularity, however, I believe that Ashlee Simpson would have been successful with or without her series. Life with an already well- known name like “Simpson” must have been a burden, but the younger Simpson sister clearly knew how to make a name for herself. The actress turned singer, made it known that she was not her sister, and I am beginning to believe that could be a good thing.
Difference # 1 She is not Hilary Duff – Most people would have loved to hear this once blonde haired bombshell make a debut with a fresh bubbly song like “So yesterday” or her successor’s “Boy I think that I’m in Love with You”. Yet, Ashlee stood firm in requesting that she not sound “pretty”. Though her single “Pieces of me” could be classified as ‘pop’ somehow the way it is presented makes you have more respect for it. The opening notes of the song are of the genre that make you want to listen until the end and the catchy, easy-to-sing-to chorus is what keeps you listening. Unlike other young stars out there the lyrics have some substance and you can relate to them. Much better than talking about your boyfriend’s jeans.
Difference #2 It’s deeper than blonde and brunette- Even though the initial difference between A and J is hair color, somehow Ashlee has taken her brunette-ism to a new level. There are no “chicken of the sea” questions coming from this girl, because she is usually the one saying ‘No Jessica, buffalo don’t have wings. Though, Jessica’s blondeness is somewhat endearing. Having someone with a little more common sense on MTV is a breath of fresh air.
Difference #3 She has a hot boyfriend- Not that Nick Lachey isn’t equally yummy, but he’s married. Watching Ashlee’s show is different than watching Newlywed’s because Nick and Jessica see so far away. They have a fabulous mansion and can spend millions of dollars on shoes. While Ashlee, has a nice, but small apartment and is not all fuzzy wuzzy lovey cuddly with her hubby. If you watched her show you saw her boy friend dump her and her hook up with her new one and that makes her seem more real.
All in all Sam and I approve Ashlee Simpson as the artist of the month and we urge you to go out and buy her album “Autobiography”.

This will be an empire
Hey, welcome to my community! Basically I want this to be a place where anyone can vent about music and/or life in general. I personally love music of every genre and want to connect with anyone who shares my passion. You don't have to play an instrument or even be a good singer. I don't care, it's not like I'll ever know. my goal is to be able to update everyone on new bands I hear of. I could really use some help w/ this so if you hear of any new bands e-mail me at dbl_trbl139@yahoo.com
So spread the word!
Love y'all!
