I’ve been keeping the trail cam aimed at the new gate in the dog’s yard. Rabbits frequently come into the yard under the old gate as well as three openings under the fence. They sometimes make nests around the yard, and come in to nurse the kits a couple of times, at dusk and dawn.
This was a bunny in the yard last night. It may have come under the new gate, rabbits being quite flexible, but more likely under the fence up next to where I sunk the last post. Unfortunately, The Huntress (2.0) killed the little thing this morning about an hour after this video. I don’t believe it had a litter due to its size, I think it was just out and about.
One dies, another will arrive. As said, there was a smaller kit on the other side of the fence that could be the next to explore the yard. It’s interesting that the rabbits have their litters back here; the pup certainly marks the area well enough, and no other predators come through.
Nature, she has her ways.

I feel like I’m losing track of time :o) One day blends into the other. If I didn’t have my meds in an organizer I think I’d forget what day of the week it was. Rejuvenating/painting the downstairs bathroom is my current major project right now.
- I did some more basement organizing, mainly to determine what I had on hand for the Project.
- I’ve bought more primer (Kilz Mold & Mildew). We have left over paint from the living room, and the upstairs bathroom, that we’ll use over that.
- The ceiling paint is peeling, and there is gypsum board replacement needed above the shower. My focus is to get everything done except the replacement because that will be a tricky bit of work. I’m thinking I’ll put up some board and cover it with vinyl panel.
- I’ve also gotten my ‘cover crop’ seeded in the garden. The winter rye seed I broadcasted was purchased in 2021, and I hope it germinates!
- I managed to watch Sonic, Sonic 2, and To Sir With Love. I tried to watch a 1948 Oliver Twist that had Sir Alec Guinness as Fagin and Robert Newton as Sikes, but didn’t want the drama.
- We bought pumpkins and mums for decorations today. One pumpkin went to the pups’ graves out back. Dear, departed friends. Happy memories.
It was a beautiful Easter Sunday. Temps were warm enough for some outside work. I raked the leaves out from the blueberry bushes in the front yard, then scratched in some Holly-Tone fertilizer (hopefully this will be the right amendment) and watered. And I put away snow shovels and took the ballast out of the truck bed!
Our daffodils are nearing peak out front, back in back, around the dogs’s graves, they are still in early bloom. A progression of sorts:
Mid-March, before clean up.
Also mid-March, following raking.
Easter Sunday!
These are only two of the dogs’ final rests. The other five, as dearly loved, were interred in less conspicuous, but unforgotten places in and beyond the old garden perimeter. All are missed.
We just finished watching Over the Garden Wall, on HBO. I don’t recall anyone ever talking about this Emmy Award winning series though it premiered in 2014. *sigh* I am always behind the times. Anyway, it was well animated and the soundtrack delightful, and it was a nice little story overall.

Pup is doing fine, but we had a scare last Sunday afternoon. Sophie got a mouthful of some spiney plant or another and, not knowing what else to do, we took her to the doggie ER. They got out what they could and five hours (and several hundred dollars) later we got home. They did a first rate job!
Here she is, Wednesday morning, sleeping across my knee and trying to keep me from going to work-
I was out walking near that area earlier in the evening, around 9:30 or so, drinking my anisette, visiting and talking to (myself) the dogs. I miss the routine of our little walks before retiring to bed.

First off, thank you all for your kind thoughts and words for The Huntress. Damn but I miss my buddy. I’m not ready to move on just yet, though we’ve put away a lot of her things (food bowls, sleeping blankets, her little steps that allowed her to get onto the couch, and such).
Edit- As with Maverick, I took The Huntress’ post down (made it private) . She's in my heart, and, as with Mavvy, seems always to be just outside my peripheral vision as I think I see her in their usual haunts...

Otherwise, we put up the tree this week, and for the outside lights I bought timers. The bit of snow we received after hellacious rains gives a cheery air to the deer we added to our ‘display.’
One deer is animatronic, from 2006, and comes from my in-laws.
I decorated behind the desk at work this week, as well.
Nothing fancy.

I discovered that the Berenstain Bears’ home, Bear Country, has other sentient creatures than just, well, bears...
These two cute fellows show up on the bottom right cover of a Thanksgiving book.

We watched the ‘new’ Mulan tonight. It was enjoyable.
So yesterday was a little surreal for me. In addition to removing trees to clear a path for the anticipated water line I also had to disinter my buddy Maverick and move him to a new, 'safer' location. Mavvy passed five years ago September, and never did I think I'd need to exhume him after his burial. Yes, he was right in the center of the proposed path- *sigh* always getting in the way he was... Short version, don't be alarmed, is that all went well and I got to chat with him the whole time I worked, and hold and hug him one more time (after I slipped him and his original burial bag into a second, new bag for reinterment). He's behind the house now, just outside the dog fence.

So here's an enduring mystery. When I chose a place for my buddy and began digging it wasn't long before I noticed a piece of ceramic in the soil I had moved. This property has been worked since the late 1600's so I wasn't too surprised; the glazing was like that of a bean pot or water vessel. Digging around what I thought was a rock suddenly turned out to be my discovering the object itself: a goddamn water/waste pipe! And it wasn't just on its side, it was mostly vertical.
A genuine WTF? moment. It's so randomly located in the middle of nothing, not near any known buildings or structures. There were no rusted nails or traces of anything it may have been part of. And for whatever reason it was exactly where I chose to dig.
Close up.
Relative location - by my lovely sweatshirt.
We moved here in 1967, and constructed that fence in and around 1970, and never came across this or other parts related to it. Now, there was a reclaiming of the fields done back on the 50's, maybe, and there are huge rocks moved nearby, and there used to be kind of a brook that ran through this area seasonally (runoff) as well as a small, man-made, pond-like catch about 300' away, but this would have been too low for that. *meh* It's a mystery for another generation. This entry was originally posted at https://moonhare.dreamwidth.org/103964.html.
Hah! It could have been the now mostly banned phosphate dishwasher detergent that did that. We have a formerly red Pyrex bowl, vintage, that is now white! And our Tom&Jerry jelly glasses have little…
I'm drinking my iced tea from a plain yellow plastic tumbler. It originally had Peter Max drawings on it when it was new 50 years ago. *lol* Talk about forever chemicals. I remember it was a…
