Maschinenvolk is a project I started back in 1998. It all started when I bought the MTV Music Generator for the PSX. I made a few tracks and I had my first CD, "Ataraxia". I made a few copies and handed them out to my friends. The feedback I got was more than I had expected. I though, "If I can make a record with a copy and paste program, then I could do a lot more with a synthesizer and a four track." I released "Ataraxia" under the name The Destroyer. I was going to keep the name but then I came across another name I liked, Maschinenvolk. I tried it out and the name stuck. I soon started work on what came to be known as "Darkness Descends". It was an album consisting of 15 tracks and it was a follow-up to "Ataraxia". Well... over the course of the next few months depression set in and I got very discouraged and almost abandoned the entire project. I eventually decided to shorten the number of tracks in order to make this easier for myself considering the mental state I was in. "Darkness Descends" became what is now know as "Euphoria". I used a few track titles from "Darkness Descends" and came up with a few new titles. I began work on the record immediately. Then a few months later... my old friend depression returned once again. This time it was worse then it had ever been before. I decided to keep working on "Euphoria" and see where life took me. My depression stayed. I needed to find some way to alleviate the pain so I changed the basis of Maschinenvolk and set new goals for "Euphoria". "Euphoria was originally supposed to be a follow-up to "Ataraxia", so like "Ataraxia", it was going to be a drug related "techno" CD. But, after my depression set in, I change my expectations for "Euphoria" and Maschinenvolk. I wanted "Euphoria" to be an album which represented my life and the world around me. I wanted people to know how I felt while going through all of this. I wanted them to feel what it was like to lock yourself in your room for weeks on end and contemplate your existence for weeks on end, what it was like to lay in the dark with that low muffled beat coming through, mixing with a dark ambient drone of a dying machine and permeating everything around you. I wanted them to know what all those long sleepless nights felt like, what my dreams were like, and what it was like to be burdened with the greatest fear you had ever felt in your life time. I wanted them to know what it was like to be me. So I changed the tracklist once again and started work on it straight away. The record would document the past few years of my life up until the present day. I have just recently changed the tracklist due to a few more changes in my life, and this will be final because, this change in my life... is final.
Out.
