Did I write about the WW letter in the SA Writer's Centre newsletter?

I can't remember so forgive me if I tell you something I already have bu there's more to it now.

In the April edition an author named Stephen Orr wrote a letter to the editor regarding Writer's Week. He had a very negative view of it, saying it was silly to have overseas and 'big' names when the organisers should be promoting local talent and emerging writers. He went one with more points: the week was meant to be dedicated to Colin Thiele and they barely mentioned him, the SAWC isn't represented there, etc., and this is from the guy who won THE premier's award for literature at said Week - the highest honour.

I got a little peeved and wrote back. I am an emerging writer myself and I feel there are plenty of outlets and avenues for emrging talent. Sure, there can ALWAYS be more but I would much rather go along to WW and sit and listen to people who I look up to and aspire to be like rather having it be yet another competitive market where I'm jostling for attention with the next new writer and feeling pissed off because I've been turned down yet again. I look forward to WW like I look forward to the Oscars and one of my goals is to one day be inivted to talk at WW (and attend the Oscars ;P).

In the weeks leading up to WW, the SAWC were all cheery about it, telling people to come and see them and say hello at WW, they'd be wearing T-shirts and have a table, so this animosity between the centre and the organisers is a puzzler to me. If there is any conflict, the WC is being damned good about it and they've continued to talk about WW since it happened in a positive way.

Mr Orr also went one to say that the organisers have no idea what they're doing and are catering to the "elite, well-educated minority". ha! Now, I don't know all the names on the commitee but I know a couple and I know that they are writer's and avid readers themselves, certainly not in the elite minority and very encouraging of local talent. Yes, maybe I'm a little biased but really, WW is a wonderful event where people like myself can go and listen to the people who we look up to and who have made a name for themselves in the literary world. Where else are we meant to see these people, our heroes? And lets not gloss over the fact that 39 of the 60 authors were Australian!

Anyway, I wrote a very long letter back and was asked to cut it down substantially. I got the next newsletter today and my short letter is in there along with 3 other letters of people who share Mr Orr's view! I'm the lone supporter. And my letter says nothing that I want it to say, I had a very good argument and now I just sound bitter.

*sigh*

so much for being heard.

If people have seen the more recent 'Peter Pan' film - the one they sexed up a little - do you remember the young girl who played Wendy? Rachel Hurd-Wood. Well, she starred in a recent film which I have yet to see called "Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" and boy has she grown up! IMDB her (yes, I realise that sounds a bit sordid) and you'll see photos of both films, I can't be bothered posting right now.

Lucky ... *girl* ... gets to make big films with Jason Isaacs and Alan Rickman and look all pretty while doing so with gorgeous red hair. *Claire goes off grumbling* ahem...

Has anyone seen 'The Fountain' with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz? Poetry on film.

.............

I'm in love with my characters and story at the moment. Wish I could introduce them to you all but you'll just have to wait for the book to be finished and published. Bwa ha ha! :P

.............

Toby Keith is a guilty pleasure. Seriously, the man wouldn't pass any feminist tests but he makes me smile and feel like hopping on a horse and yelling "Yeehah!" so I don't really care.

.............

Do not let someone tell you to take you clothes off and photograph you and then say you're embarrassed by the photos. You're turning it around to tarnish a good photographers name and we all know you love attention anyway. You agreed to the shoot, you're fault.

..............

*sigh* another day...

This one's for Cara and Louise.

You both seem to have a friend named Ghita / Gita. I'm curious to know whether she's the same girl as Cara's gita seems to be in to Louise type things and it is Adelaide after all.

None of my business probably, but I am curious, 'twould be kind of funny and Adelaidian. I figured I'd write a post rather than leave comments 'cause I don't believe the person in question can read my posts.

well he lit you up
like amber waves in his movie show
he fixed you up real good
till i don't know you anymore
from ballet class to a lap dance
straight to video
and the pool side news
was that he would be
launching you

into every young man's bedroom
you gave it up
on dvd and magazine
you gave it up
a private rite of passage
you gave it up
in to every boy's sweet dreams
with their paper cuts

you said "he's got a
healing machine
it glows in the dark
glows in the dark:
you say "there's not a lot of me
left anymore
just leave it alone.
but if you're by,
and you have the time,
tell the Northern Lights to keep shining
Cause lately it seems like they're drowning"

he could light you up
and summon every swan
to the lakeside
off to cabo san lucas
for some optical stimulus
then you started to guess
there was someone else
though his flint glass
seeing all of you
immersed in his sepia

into every young man's bedroom...

so i went by -
cause i had the time,
and told the Northern Lights
to keep shining
they told me to tell you -
they're waving

I'm feeling very sorry for myself.

I've been in bed since Monday. I ended up in Emergency on Wednesday only to be told after 3 and half hours that I need to go home and rest. I've been very scared over the last couple of days and I still feel like crap.

ugh!

Okay, sorry ness over.

Hope everyone else is well and has a lovely long weekend.

The human body is a strange thing.

.........

I wake up with a sore throat and aching joints and I reckon it's my medication cause I upped the dose last night as planned with the doc. But I'm feeling all sick and shaking and so I ring said doc and he says "You have a virus" why? because the meds I'm on wouldn't cause a sore throat. (the paper in with the meds says that if you experience a sore throat to get yourself to emergency asap but I'm thinking more the virus idea cause I've been feeling iffy for the last few days). I'm reverting back to my normal dose anyway. I ain't putting up withthis if it is the meds.

But if it is a virus then wtf? I just keep getting sick, I've had two colds and another virus in the last three months, one after the other, combined with the heat wave and normal stresses. I'm a little worn out.

*goes off to do nothing*

Men.

Can't live with them, can't live without them.

*sigh*

But I suppose there are some nice ones out there, like Luke, Simon, Nick, and Wade.

So I don't really have anything to go on here, do I?

Ahh, damn. Whom I kidding? I love men. They just make it so hard to exist sometimes.

Right, girly rant over.
