Are you fed-up with garbage, full-of-shit sites where nobody actually communicates, such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Twitter? Do you wish your old friends who've migrated to those sites would return to LiveJournal? The
the_lj_revival community has been set up with that aim in mind, and you are invited to join it. If you are already on LiveJournal and still have a Facebook profile, and would like to see more people returning to LJ or setting up accounts here, we invite you to post a link to this community on your Facebook Timeline. If you would like to find out who is still using LiveJournal and make contact with those who are already here, you are invited to copy and paste the 'about me' questions on the profile page and post them with your answers to the community.Link | Leave a comment | Share | Flag

Hey everybody..
Looking for some advice here.
My Great Grandmother passed away and I inherited her china. I absolutely LOVE the china and plan on keeping it for a LONG time.... but I'm still curious as to what it's worth. I've been searching for where I could go in Los Angeles to have it appraised, but so far, I've totally struck out. The few places I have found won't appraise it without a "appraisal fee," or just flat out won't do it.
Any suggestions on where to go in Los Angeles for this?!
The china is "Athena - Yellow Key" by Thun and I've basically got 8 pieces of everything and serving platters, bowls, etc.

Thanks!!!

I am always picking up gorgeous rugs! I began my love with other textiles and have since grown to adore Persian Rugs/Carpets.
Unfortunately my house only has so much square footage for rugs so I've started selling some on etsy here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/EleanorMeriwether?section_id=8032241
Here are a few examples of the antique beauties that I have!

Intriguing Head

I picked up this bisque head at an auction about a week ago. One of the staff there told me they didn't know what it is, but figured it was pretty old. A few days later I spoke to a woman at a trader's market event who told me she didn't recognize it or its maker, but guessed it was from about 1820 to 1840. Since the man is smoking a pipe, she suggested it might have been intended to hold tobacco.
It measures a little over 4 inches tall with his hat on, and was once painted more than is apparent now. I can't find a discernable mark, unless the smooth triangle with rounded corners impressed into the stained bottom is a makers mark and not a flaw. Unfortunately, I can't get a clear photo of the triangle. Any ideas? Can anyone confirm or contradict the guess on period and on purpose? Any thoughts on finding more info or on possible value?
Thanks for your input. Enjoy autumn and rummaging for treasures!

Help with vintage cowboy print

Hi all! First time posting to this community. I'm looking for some help with a print I bought today at a thrift store for $6. It's an old paper poster, framed. It says "A. Methfessel" on it (though it's part of the print, not an actual signature). There is some slight water damage to it.
The image was on the cover of Sunset magazine in 1904 ( http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/2002719245/ ). I can find some reproductions for sale, but no info on how much an original might be worth. Also, unless it was an oversized magazine, it seems too big to be a magazine cover (about 1.5'X1.5'). I really love the image, so even if it's not worth anything I'll keep it, but I'm thinking it might actually have some worth since I can't find other originals like it anywhere. Help?

China Blue Bird

I spotted this charming little (about 2 inches tall) blue bird nearly lost in a box of items waiting for trash pick up. (Yes, I'm a dedicated scavenger.) He called to me to save him so he's now flitting from one spot to another in my house. But I can't figure out who made him. My knowledge of china and of figurines in general is pretty casual so I was wondering if anyone here could identify the maker's mark on the bottom for me. I couldn't find any like it on my internet search. Looks like a bird flying over water to me, and the "China" is on a clear sticker rather than printed on the bird like the mark is.
Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give me.
