still alive

We are still alive and slowly climbing out of the black hole of sickness.  This think is just hanging on and not wanting to let go.

We decided, that unless someone called for coffee, we were both still tired and sickie and were going to hole up one more night.  I guess it is a good thing that we did.  About 8:30 my mother calls and needed me to come over right away.  She was gasping, out of breath, and could barely talk.  She has been suffering from some health problems that the doctors can't figure out: bp shooting up or sinking really low, extreme fatigue, completely winded by walking across the room.  I have been very worried about her.

When she called last night hardly able to talk, talking about her blood pressure spiking again, I feared the worse.  I thought she might have a stroke.  We'd been hanging out in p.j.s and I told John to get dressed quick.  We might be taking my mother to the hospital.  We rushed down Bluebonett, and of course, traffic was rediculously slow.

Mom was in bed shaking uncontrolably.  She was freezing.  Her skin was like ice.  I piled some more blankets on her and tried to find out what was going on.  Her bp had shot up real high again so she had taken another pill to try and bring it back down.  Thankfully, it didn't feel like heart trouble to her.  She thought it was because her body had dumped a lot of adrinalin real fast into her system because of the stress of her bp.  This had happened once before right after her mother died a couple of years ago.

I laid on the bed curled up with her trying to warm her up a little bit.  She was shaking like you wouldn't believe and radiating cold.  After 10 minutes I tried to take her blood pressure to see if the pill was having any effect.  John had to take my place on the bed, trying to keep her warm, so I could get an arm out to take her blood pressure - she was that cold.  Her blood pressure had come down a little from the last time she took it.

John traded places with me and after about 15 more mintues, she had warmed up enough that she could talk with out gasping and had stopped shaking.  I took her bp again and it was a little lower.  She slowly warmed up then went to the other extreme of being overly hot.  We had to take off blankets, change out of sweats, and turn on the fan.  Her bp was down a little and her pulse was fairly steady, but with an odd rythm that I pointed out to her.

By this point she and I were calmer.  I wanted to stay the night with her in case she got bad again.  She thought about it a minute and said she was too young for me to have to start staying the night with her.  She was able to get up and walk around, albet slowly and she seemed stable, so we went on home about 10/10:30.

Neither John nor I could get to sleep after that.  I tried to go to sleep and he stayed up watching t.v.  About 11, he finally came to bed.  I started coughing so bad it kept waking me up.  I didn't want  to keep John up so I went and laid down on the couch sucking a cough drop.  Then I started coughing again.  It was like there was one spot in the back of my throat that wouldn't stop itching.  I thought maybe it was my sinuses dripping and took some musinex.  The next thing I knew the alarm was going off in the back of the house.  Thank God for loud alarms.  I didn't even remember falling asleep on the couch.

Needless to say, we were dragging a bit this morning.  The kids will be coming back from staying the night with the  psycho bitch a.k.a. their birth-mother, John's x-wife.  I'm sure Ariel will start yammering away to immediately go out tonight and see her friends.  She has a new guy that she is interested in that she meet at the movies one night - a 17 year old junior with a drivers license.  Can we say, n o o o o.  She just turned 15.  I don't think so.  Her daddy thought the same thing.  I tried to explane to her that 17 y.o. boys were a completely different creature than 15 and 16 y.o. boys.  We are probably going to have to start showing up unexpectedly in places to make sure she is not meeting up with him on the side.  Bleck.

So what did you guys do last night?
