I love this community! I was just browsing to see if they might FINALLY introduce Janice into the third NuTrek movie but alas, unless she's getting a cameo, it doesn't look promising. At this point, I'd settle for a blonde woman handing Kirk a PADD or a coffee rather than no Rand at all, although I was quite offended when they bundled Chapel out of the way between movies - it's not as if there are that many women in this franchise, what's one less, I suppose? Grim.
She has appeared briefly in the IDW ongoing comic and while I was bored, I did play around with some images to postulate how they could have introduced her as Kirk's security escort when he was BEAMED to Delta Vega to be placed in the brig in an effort to remove some of the silliness and preposterous story logic as to how that section of the movie played out (http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/idw-star-trek-ongoing.194800/page-66).
Apart from that, I've been writing a very silly Star Trek TMP / Alien / Babylon 5 / Farscape cross-over comic strip on Youtube where I consciously re-elevated Rand back up to be one of the ensemble. I always thought that as the one female character who was not tied to a work station Rand was ripe for development. I hope they update her for a new generation before the reboot runs out of steam. I've also been gently nagging John Byrne to make more use of Rand in his photo novels for New Visions (she has only appeared in issue 2 to date) (http://www.byrnerobotics.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=49674&PN=2&totPosts=48)
