wow. and the keller board sleeps on. well, hopefully there are a few music fans perusing here from time to time, and hopefully said fans will find some of these guys worthwhile.

this is a lad who was brought to my attention awhile back through the same network of bizzare and talented players wherein i found rodney branigan and petteri sariola. he is one of the most interesting hybrids of 'player' and 'singer/songwriter' i've ever come across, and he has fascinated me for the past month plus.

seth horan is his name, and he is a bass guitarist who performs as a soloist, singing while he plays. posting but one of the videos i've come across of his performances simply would not begin to do justice to the multi-faceted approach he seems to have, so at the severe risk of overkill, here are three.

first is an instrumental prelude, which, from what i have been able to glean, may possibly be an off-the-cuff improv for a soundcheck. whether or not it is, it's frighteningly good:

this track sees him using a loop pedal, whereby he creates his own backing track, and then plays some of the most dexterous-yet-tasteful bass parts i have yet seen over the top to create a seriously aggressive song. and then, for lack of a more appropriately descriptive phrase, he sings his ass off.

finally, a softer selection. no looping, no percussive madness; just a starkly arranged, technically brilliant yet utterly heartfelt progression, with a lyric that both challenged and moved me. i don't hear music like this anywhere else, and for the past six weeks, i have been asking myself: why?

now is as good as a time as any to bring him to light, as he's currently peddling a dvd release for 2008, and i'm most eager to see the professional performance footage. google him, search for him on itunes; he's got something unique to offer.

i found another one.

this guy is apparently from texas. i am told he may have opened for keller at some point?

at any rate, he's found himself an interesting angle to get himself noticed.

there's nowhere to post 'off-topic' here, but there's no disclaimer against it, so i hope nobody minds this small tangent.

in fact, i'm positive that any fan of keller is going to freak out over this guy as much as i am.

he's from finland. they must have something in the water there.

11:34 am - missing album...
hey guys,
i'm royally bummed! i have somehow misplaced my "stage" album. i searched and searched through all of my music, and i can't find it. i checked both of our cars to see if i happened to leave it in there, but no luck. i'm so sad about this!

it's just really weird because i usually take two c.d. folder thingys in my car because i never know what i will be in the mood to listen to, and not even one of the discs from the album are in there! so EVERYTHING is missing.

i'm pretty sure that i didn't lend it out to anyone because i remember having listened to it recently. i don't think i could have left it anywhere because i only take it from my room to the car and back.

i even keep asking my parents if they've seen it, just in case i misplaced it around the house.

just no luck :(

well, it's been a while since anyone has posted in this community!

i hope that you are all doing well.

did you get "dream"? i'll be honest and say that at first, i didn't like it as much as i thought i would...but now, i CAN'T GET ENOUGH. i think it's amazing! i am not sure why it went from so-so to absolutely wonderful.

are you going to see him this summer? if so, which shows? i missed him when he came to pittsburgh and he even had two shows...i had to work and i actually don't have a lot of friends who i would go to a show with :( [plus they are poor college students/graduates]. i regret not going.

so...which is your favorite album? i always opt for "stage", but i can't really choose. it all depends on how i'm feeling. currently in my car i have "grass", "spun", "loop" and "laugh"...oh and "dream", obviously.

i love keller.

have a happy day! :)

you guys, i made a really big mistake. i opted not to see keller when he came around to boston a couple days ago. i am just now realizing what a stupid move that was. i used to be...obsessed with keller. i got out of the 'jam' scene and more into indie/experiemental music (and even a little bit of rap): andrew bird, animal collective, tyrannosaurus rex, edan, faust, devendra banhart...and totally forgot about my old lovers: phish, keller, michael franti, etc. today was the first time i listened to a lot of keller in a LONG time. how could i have been so foolish? i mean, STAGE and HOME are both on my top 25 favorite albums of ALL TIME list (at least...if i were to make such a list, they would be).

does anybody know how the show was? I am anxious to know, because if it was good then i will be sooo disappointed i didn't go. but i hear that those damn kids are always talking during his sets...you know? i have the greatest memories of keller in boston...mostly of that time my friend laura and i spent the night hanging out with scott sun and we got to meet louis and keller. louis...i love him. i should have gone, just to see lou. i am rambling. does anyone have pictures/words to share about the boston show??
