• Would you? COULD you? (a public post) •

Here's the deal. As most of you know, my daughter Faith was diagnosed with Leukemia at the young age of 3. She went through extensive chemotherapy for 3 years and got sick many times over. She never complained when she lost her hair. Shoot, she never asked questions when she was haunched over the toilet getting sick from the medication. On January 3, 2003 her doctors pronounced her in remission. All of her endurance and strength that her little body gave was completely worth it. It would not have been possible without the latest treatments and research made available (well, that and her one and only single support team: ME!).

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society continues to fight for a cure and Faith is right there beside them. She is an active advocate for their fundraising programs and has even spoken at schools about her battle with Cancer. That is why she is my hero. She took a potentially life-threatening disease and kicked it in the butt while continuing to help others do the same. Just recently, someone else has deemed her a hero.

A friend of mine, Laura, has graciously asked to honor Faith as her hero as she trains for The Hike for Discovery. She will be training to do an endurance hike down the Grand Canyon. Think about it. Hiking the Grand Canyon! Laura will be going through extensive training and for what? To help find a cure. To help other children and adults like Faith who have the god-awful experience of battling blood-related Cancers. The statistics are phenomenal of those who are affected and even killed by blood-related cancer.

So, why the post you may ask? Simple. I promised Laura to help her with her fundraising efforts. She has an amazing goal to raise for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and I believe with all of the people on my friends list, there have to be some of you who are willing to donate to such a cause. No donation is ever too small OR too big. If you want to help, please go to HER DONATION PAGE and make a donation. You can also read about the eye-opening statistics I mentioned earlier about blood cancers. It'd mean the world to me, to her, and most importantly, to Faith if you clicked that link and made a difference. Make this year the year that you decide to give back. After all, you can't take it with you when you go.

Thank you for reading this and I do hope someone reads this and feels compelled. Even if it's just one person, it was all worth it.

• Relentless for a Cure •

Tomorrow's a big day for my training, but not as big as NEXT weekend. Tomorrow I do 18 miles for training. Next week, we do 20 miles, our longest we ever go before the marathon. It's just over a month away and I am still behind in my fundraising, though. It's really hard to train with a smile and the determination to finish when the fundraising isn't even there. But, I made a committment and I always follow through with my committments. If any of you have it in you to donate ANYTHING, I would most definitely be thankful. I know a lot of you said you've been meaning to donate but just haven't gotten around to it. Now's the time. Cancer waits for nobody and if you don't think it could ever happen to you, think again. Cancer knows no color, age, ethnicity, gender, or financial information. It just knows how to kill, and killing it does slowly and painfully. Many people think, "Oh, so-and-so will donate and so I'm covered." No, unfortunately that's not how it happens. Everyone thinks the other person's going to make that donation and none ever get made.

I won't be doing this marathon-thing again. I would like to go out with a bang. I don't ever ask for much, but this time I have to. Funny thing is, I am not even asking for something that goes directly for myself. It goes for those with cancer, those who NEED the treatments and the research to make them, hopefully, better. The donations are tax-deductible. This will be the last time I make a post asking straight-up for donations. It's a hard thing for me to do and I know most people don't like to read it and quickly scroll right by. That's their right. But, it doesn't hurt to ask, right?

If you feel inclined to donate, you can do so here. I wouldn't be so passionate about it had my daughter not experienced it first hand. No, she didn't die and I would hate to think that'd be what it took to get a donation. Yes, there are children and adults, just like you and me, that are dying every.single.day from this horrible disease. If we can make just the slight bit of difference, then I can sleep better at night knowing I did my part. Thanks for reading, my friends.

If you're out and about today and want to kill two birds with one stone, come out to the Fish City Grill located at:

2628 Long Prairie Road
Flower Mound, Texas 75022
(On Long Prairie Road between Flower Mound Road and Cross Timbers Road)

and dine out for charity. The Fish City Grill will be donating 15% of its total day's sales to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training® (TNT) has trained more than 6,000 north Texans to run or walk a full or half marathon; cycle a 100-mile century ride; mountain bike an off-road event or complete a triathlon.

All TNT participants are involved in a lifesaving mission: to help the Society cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Leukemia is the #1 disease killer of children...every 9 minutes, someone dies of a blood cancer.

Help find a cure for blood cancers and enjoy a great meal at the same time. Both your tummy and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society thank you for it.

_debi_ was ever-so-kind to come up with this beautiful button our Team in Training team will wear in San Francisco next weekend. It's going to be worn in honor of our Honored Heroes...survivors and those still trying to survive Leukemia or Lymphoma. I wanted to share it with you because it was to amazing to keep to just myself and the team. Thanks again, _debi_.

In memory of an Honored Hero
Allie Scott
December 17, 2003-September 13, 2004

I've been following Allie for a while. She had the same Oncologists that Faith has. Unfortunately, Leukemia got the best of this sweetheart at only 9 months old. I found out today before I left work. I checked in on her because I hadn't done so in a week. I'm almost sorry I did. I really lost it and found it hard to handle.

Rest in peace, innocent one. You are definitely in a better place.

Do me a favor. Hug your kids extra tight tonight and be thankful you can. I know I am.

Ok, so maybe childbirth and anything related to the munchkin ranks over this past weekend in greatness, but this weekend comes into a close second. Since I was known to bust into song based on any given moment in conversation, I figured it would be fitting to use that line from Dido and start off with a song.

I'm home from Vegas. I cannot describe the magnatude of what a great bunch of people I met this weekend. I mean that in the utmost sincerity. I am really glad I went to Vegas. I made some great new friends, had some "wicked" fun (ode to Princess ladyfire) and I cannot wait for the next go-round. I hope I wasn't too "chatty"! Thanks again to my roomies last night for the giggles and good fireside stories. :)

I know I am missing some LJ names of the people I met this weekend...SORRY! If you happen to stumble across this (hopefully so b/c most of my journal is Friends Only), add me and I'll add you back. I have pics that I will post as soon as I get this Financial Analysis homework finished for tomorrow. Tomorrow is guaranteed to be a long day...work and then night class until 10. I will definitely be missing my "DARRRRRRRRRK CURRRRRRRRRTAINS!"

You kids get some good sleep and thanks again for a great weekend.

No wonder why people are so leary when it comes to donating for my marathon!

People like her make me sick. How can one ever lie about something like that? I just don't get it. Sick. I have one word for her: KARMA!

I am off to run 15. I know, I know...it's less than 16, but we taper down a little just to go right back up again. I hope you all are dreaming away! I'll be back later with sore feet and be ready for a nap!! :)

I am only about $950 away from my goal...I think it's attainable!

• Poor little angel. •

Yet, another reason why I am running for a cure.

Ironically enough, she is being treated by the same doctors that treat Faith. I've sent the mom an email and expressed my willingness to help her if needed and that miracles do happen. I just wish that the world would truly know how deadly this disease really is and know just how many little children and adults are affected each year.

If you pray, please add little Allie to your prayers.

This PISSES ME OFF!

Leave it to the sick-o's who want to profit off something that is meant to raise money for Cancer research!!!! I think e-bay needs to ban the sale of these on their site. It also sickens me to see that these "Live Strong" bracelets are seen more as a fashion statement than what they are meant to do...promote Cancer awareness and provide money for research. I always wear mine...Faith always wears hers. E-bay needs to get with the program on this one. I am disappointed in them.

I did it. 16 miles. And, I did it in 3 hours and 18 mins...only 3 mins. more than it took me to do the 14. It was cooler this morning than last week. That helped a TON! Faith got some neat stuff and had cake and pancakes. Now...I must sleep because this afternoon I have shopping to do...tax-free weekend. Must sleep. Must rub feet. Must.
