There are no words to begin to describe how excited I am at this moment. My best friend Jenna, her husband, and their daughter are flying in tomorrow for a long weekend from Illinois. Her and her husband moved out there last June, when she was 6 weeks pregnant. Her adorable daughter will be exactly 3 months old tomorrow when I get to hold her for the first time.

I can't sleep. Or stop crying. I am so so so so freaking excited. I seriously don't remember the last time I was filled with this much excitement, anticipation, and overall emotion. Maybe my wedding day, two and a half years ago.

Now if I can only get through my work day tomorrow without crying, that will be the the true test.
Big girl news:
Sophia went in the potty for the first time yesterday!! She woke up dry for nap so I asked if she wanted to sit on the potty, which we do quite often, but this time I had high hopes that something would actually happen. She sat down and a minute or so later a little bit of pee came out. It totally startled her and she jumped up to see what was going on down there.

It was a proud mommy moment :)
I guess it's time for my monthly update. I think about updating more often, but it seems like I never have time to sit down and write a decent post.

I start back at work on Monday. I'm kind of excited, but I'm more nervous. And self-conscious. Mostly self-conscious.
I'm really not comfortable in my body anymore. Pregnancy and everything since has not been kind to my body. I'm misshapen and extra fluffy in places I didn't use to have fluff. I don't really care as a SAHM because there really is no one to impress if I look frumpy during the day. Don't get me wrong, I try to look nice for Shawn and presentable to the world, but if I have crusty yogurt on my pant leg, none of my mommy friends are going to judge me.
But all that is different in the wide corporate world. Your image is your first impression. My new co-workers are going to take one look at me and label me. I want those key, critical first moments to count. I want to show them that I belong there. I guess I'm just nervous that being a mom has gotten me out of practice of being in the professional world.
I'm nervous about how Sophia and I are going to adapt to our new routine. How the fuck am I realistically going to make it out of the house by 7am 5 days a week?? We're lucky if we can make it to a 9am sign class once a week.
And what about nursing? I'm ready to wean, but I know Sophia isn't. Is this going to completely disrupt our nights as she tries to drink as much from me instead of sleeping?

I don't know. I wish I felt more prepared and comfortable about this whole thing. I wish I had a plan and some way of knowing I'm doing the right thing and that it's all going to be alright. But there would be no fun in that.

*fingerscrossed*

My Screaming 16mo old

I need advice. Sophia is in the screaming-at-the-top-of her-lungs-when-she's-trying-to-communicate phase. To say the least, it's exhausting. She's says about 30 or so words, including please, help, all done, and all gone; so she knows how to communicate these things and does so often throughout the day. Shawn and I feel the screams are coming from her inability to communicate her needs when she's frustrated about situation. Such as in moments of transition, when a power struggle seems to arise (meals ending, having to wait too long for something, getting in her car seat) she just starts screaming, sometimes it's just a scream, other times it's "NO" at the top of her lungs. So far our guidance techniques include helping/reminding her to use her words, redirecting her activity, offering her a reading break, and just ignoring the scream. Sometimes these things work, and sometimes they don't. But it feels like it is getting worse. And we just want to help her transition from this phase without losing our sanity and patience. So, any advice, words of wisdom, links, or book suggestions that you care to share? Also, what do you think could be some of the underlying causes for these screams, mere frustration to communicate or just her trying to express herself in a new verbal form? I love my DD, but man this makes me afraid for when she's a teenager.
I can't believe Christmas is in two days. This year Shawn & I are trying something new by incorporating some of my family's traditions into the holiday. It's always been so hard for me because Shawn's family's big day is Christmas Eve and my family's was always Christmas Day. And given that none of my family was here, I never really protested, but I never got over the lingering sense of sadness. Now that we have Sophia, I want it to be different. I want her to know that even though my family isn't here, that  she is still a part of those traditions. So we're letting his mom do her big Christmas Eve dinner, but I've put together a nice menu for Christmas Day. Last year, after presents were opened the day just went to waste. I'm not letting that happen this year. And just in case we aren't Facebook friends and you didn't get a copy of our Christmas card, here is Sophia being tortured on her visit with Santa                                                                                                                                            212_1

Can I just say how much I hate Windows 8?! We bought a new laptop last week after much procrastination and it came with Windows 8. It is one of the most frustrating and confusing operating systems I have ever worked with. I move on the mouse pad and things just happen,  then when I try to make those things happen on purpose they don't. My mouse also randomly jumps place when I'm typing so I'm always having to look at what I'm typing. Sigh.

So... In other news, my sister sent me/us a Christmas card. This is really big news given that we haven't spoken over 2 years, since just after Shawn & I got married. I emailed her a few months back when Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast just to make sure they were okay. She responded, but not after correcting me on how long it had been since we had talked. I mailed Ethan, my older nephew, one of our cards but it wasn't supposed to have arrived until Saturday so I'm not really sure what prompted her to send it. She's never even acknowledged that I had Sophia. But then again, I never actually told her I was pregnant. Oh, my dysfunctional family.
In other mommy news, I bought Sophia a little potty today. She's been showing a lot of interest in sitting on the big potty, but once she's on she gets freaked out. I think because it's so big for her and she probably feels like she's going to fall in. I had a gift card to Babies R Us, so her and I went over and she helped pick out a cute little Minnie Mouse one. I'm waiting for Shawn to get home to unwrap it because I know he will want to see her reaction to sitting on it for the first time.

I can't believe my little baby is already growing up so fast. Eep!

PAXBaby 10,000 fan Fun Stuff Giveaway

One of my favorite & Local babywearing stores just hit 10,000 likes on Facebook and our now doing a fun giveaway. Check it out :)

On a more positive note. I did a half hour of Core-focused Pilates yesterday, and it was amazing! My abs are so sore today. I didn't think I had any muscles left down there. My goal is to do either 30 minutes of yoga, pilates, light weights, or a walk every day.

Operation: Happy & Healthy has begun.

I had this with Riley, except he wasn't very verbal at that point, and he still does it a lot when he's angry. So I try to give him words for the emotions he's feeling - sad, angry, frustrated,…

Lenovo is typically a good brand, so I would definitely guess most of the problems are operating system related.
