LJ Unofficial Meetup Tuesday Night
A few of us Ithaca residents and LJers are getting together for an unofficial meetup tomorrow (Tuesday, May 31) at 7PM at The Chariot, located at 420 Eddy Street in Collegetown. We are doing this mainly because The Chariot is closing up shop in a couple weeks, so this may be our final chance to get their corn nuggets (probably their best appetizer). So, come join us! Bring a friend! Bring two friends! Come meet your fellow LJers! x-posted |

Ithaca LiveJournal Meetup this Tuesday!
Come meet fellow LiveJournal users in the Ithaca area this Tuesday evening at 8pm at Willow of Ithaca. It's always a good way to meet the fellow LJers in the area; we often get one or two newcomers a month. We're gathering at Willow's bar, but it's a very laid-back setup and there's no obligation to drink, or buy anything at all. (Of course, it is a business, so they're delighted when some of us spend money there.) See http://www.willowithaca.com/directions.html for directions from different areas around town. Willow's just a couple of minutes from Cornell or the Commons! |

An e-mail sent to the Meetup.com folks... Just got another e-mail as the Ithaca LiveJournal Meetup organizer, offering me another two weeks to start paying $9/month, and for the introductory $9/month to last an extra year. Herewith my reply.I just don't feel there is any way I'll be able to generate the funds you're talking about, even with a little more time, and even with the "low, low introductory price" lasting longer. Going from free to over a hundred bucks a year is a staggering blow to a fun -- but not critical -- service. I suppose in a Seattle or New York where some active Meetup groups might have 100-200 members, you could pretty easily convince a bunch of people to chip in a buck or two a year. But in Ithaca, where mine is probably the most active Meetup group (LiveJournal, though you'd know better than I would), and we tend to get 3-6 people per Meetup, you're asking for a huge sum of money. ( the rest of the e-mail...Collapse ) |
