I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible, to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which came to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which came to me as blossom, goes on as fruit. fully alive - dawna markova
I'm Ice, a 28 year old woman, a Chicago native now living in the southern suburbs, student, critter care taker extraordinaire and house wifey/girlfriend person. Crazy how it doesn't seem that complicated till I write it all out... Anyway, I've recently returned to school to peruse my degree in Childhood Education. While I don't have any children of my own, and don't plan on any, I do like kids, and teaching is the only thing that I've ever really wanted to do. Going back to school as an adult is a scary thing, but I'm doing it! I'm at a community college right now to pick up some liberal arts based Gen. Ed. courses that I didn't need when I was a math/science major my first time though, and I hope to be transferring to a University next fall to finish up my schooling and receive my IL state teaching license. No stress here!
My boyfriend and I have been together just over 10 years ("committed" has so many plays on words for a reason) and its a relationship that has it's own special moments, good and bad. I also suffer have some issues with anxiety that I'm working on. I imagine it's something I'll always be working on, it's just that kind of thing, but I won't give up. :) I was an only child raised by a single parent, and my mom is now disabled (bi-polar, schizophrenic, & borderline personality disorder) so you can bet I just turned out to be super stable. :D I'm a Pagan by nature, though not the spell casting witchy kind. My spirituality is a large part of my life, but not in the sense that I need to talk about it a lot or anything like that. It's more just a way of life that involves respect for all living things. I believe strongly in honestly, truth, and the power of love, however cliche that sounds. :) I'm always interested in friending people who are positive and into living life, even if you are in a situation where you are just taking things one step at a time. I don't fool myself by thinking that I know all the answers, but that doesn't mean that I won't stop trying to find them all until then! Not to offend anyone, but I'm not interested in friending/reading about anyone who is into substance use or abuse, promiscuity, or self harm. Yep, that's me.
As I mentioned, I don't have any children, but I definitely have some furkids. I'm a huge, HUGE advocate for responsible pet ownership, and I think owning animals isn't a right, but a privilege that should be taken seriously. All animals have thoughts, can suffer and feel pain, and deserve the best care their owners can provide for them. It's not really that hard, they don't ask for much. :) When you make the decision to purchase/adopt an animal, they are yours for life, not a throw away commodity. *steps off soapbox* Anyway, the boy and I currently share our home with Kessen, a 3 y/o Shetland Sheepdog, 3 ferrets, 3 rats, and 2 mice. I'm active in small animal rescue when time permits, and most of the rodents were rescues that came to stay.
-- The 10 Commandments of a Responsible Pet Parent --
1) I may live only 2 or 3 years, or as long as 16, but any separation from you will be very painful for me. 2) Give me time to understand what you want from me, and I will do my best to learn. Do not break my spirit with your temper, though if you do, I will always forgive you. Your patience will always teach me more effectively. 3) Please see to my well being. Keep my bowl filled with water and feed me good food so I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, and take me to the doctor when I am ill so I will not suffer. I depend on you. 4) Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for your kindness than mine. Don’t be angry with me for long, and don’t lock me up as punishment. After all, you have your job, your friends, and your entertainment - but I have only you. 5) Speak to me often. Even if I don’t understand your words, I understand your voice. Your voice is the sweetest sound I ever hear, as you must know by my enthusiasm whenever I hear your footsteps.
6) Be aware of how you treat me, and I will ask for little more than your gentle hands petting me. By your side, I stand ready, willing, and able to share my life with you. 7) Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth or claws that could easily hurt you, yet I choose not to. 8) Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. 9) Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old and need love, care, comfort and attention. I am yours even in my twilight years, and even though I may not be as able as I used to be, I still love you. 10) When I am old, or when I no longer enjoy good health, please see to it that my trusting life is taken gently. And on my final journey, please go with me, for I may be frightened. Never say, “I can’t bear to watch it,” or “Let it happen in my absence.” Everything is easier for me when you are there, and I want to leave this earth knowing with my last breath that my fate was always safest in your hands, for I am yours.
There is no such thing as 'bad' breeds, just bad owners.
I have to admit I'm a pretty big geek and gamer girl. :) Anything SciFi or Fantasy I eat up. I'm an avid reader, destroying at least 3 novels a month during the school year, and I'm always accepting recommendations for books I haven't read yet. I also enjoy hiking, geocashing, skydiving, and I follow the White Sox and Blackhawks pretty regularly. I also play World of Warcraft, probably more then I should. For the HORDE! :D
RELIGION is like a penis. It's fine to have one. It's fine to be proud of it. But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around. And please don't try shoving it down other peoples' throats without their consent.
Girls are like apples on trees. The best ones are often at the very top of the tree. And most of the time, it seems like boys don't want to reach for the good ones, maybe because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt, or just don’t want to put in the effort to get to the top. Instead, they just pick up the rotten apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easier to get. Eventually, the apples at the top start to think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along, the one who's brave and willing enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree. Those boys end up with the best apples, and those apples end up with the best boys.
