HP Steampunk

Welcome to HP Steampunk, the official Livejournal site for Harry Potter Steampunk enthusiasts! What is steampunk? The Wiki defines Steampunk as the following:

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, and speculative fiction that came into prominence during the 1980s and early 1990s. Steampunk involves a setting where steam power is still widely used—usually the Victorian era Britain—that incorporates elements of either science fiction or fantasy. Works of Steampunk often feature anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as Victorians may have envisioned them; based on a Victorian perspective on fashion, culture, architectural style, art, etc. This technology may include such fictional machines as those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne. Other examples of Steampunk contain alternative history-style presentations of such technology as lighter-than-air airships, analog computers, or such digital mechanical computers as Charles Babbage and Ada Lovelace's Analytical engine. Steampunk is sometimes compared to cyberpunk, although apart from the shared origins of the name, they have almost nothing in common. Their time period and level of technology are different and Steampunk settings also tend to be less dystopian. Various modern utilitarian objects have been modded by individual artisans into a pseudo-Victorian mechanical "Steampunk" style, and a number of visual and musical artists have been described as Steampunk.

- This community is friendly to slash, het, femslash, and gen fic and art. If you are uncomfortable with this then this may not be the community for you. Decide accordingly.
- This community features adult-rated works of fan fiction and art. Use your discretion accordingly.
- Constructive criticism is encouraged; please provide feedback appropriately

This is not a flame: I really like how you worked the detail in Hermione's corset; it's beautiful. Her head seems a bit out of proportion. Harry isn't wearing any kind of glasses, which seems strange! I'm so used to him with glasses on all the time. All in all, a really nice piece!

This is a flame: Whoever told you that you can write should be shot. You are the worst author in HP fandom; I've never read a more heinous story than this one. Ron and Luna's characterizations are ****. You're stupid if you think you can write. Do yourself and the world a favor and step away from the keyboard -- FOREVER!!!! You SUCK!!!! You suck like a sucking suck thing. Don't ever write again.

Please do not e-mail the mods because you've received constructive criticism; take what people have to say and learn and grow! Flames, of course, will not be tolerated and will be deleted immediately.

- Do give feedback to authors and artists
- Do feel free to rec others' works
- Do make suggestions to the moderators as you see fit
- Crossovers are welcome as long as they feature Harry Potter as part of the work and fall under the Steampunk genre
- hp_steampunk also welcomes fic and art for the Cyberpunk, Gothic, and Gothic Lolita genres. We want our community to be as inclusive as possible and since these genres are so closely interrelated with Steampunk, we thought it would be great to welcome our Cyberpunk and Goth friends as well.
