How I Fucked Up Today: Stories of Human Error

hey everyone.
now technically, this wasn't a fuckup from today..but boy, is it a good one..

so i took this huge roadtrip about a month ago, and left my apartment with only $70. crazy? yes i know. i have to say thank hey-suess for the awesome connections i have made throughout the US, or else it would've been more of a fuckup than i'm about to reveal.

so i stopped in Nashville, TN for awhile to have dinner with a friend. afterwards, we hung out until late, and i really wanted to get going and avoid a rather personal situation that i won't go into. so on my way out of Nash, about 20min north of town and i take a look down at my engine temperature and realize that it's WAY past the red.
so i'm like "shit shit" and i stop in a neighborhead right off an exit from the highway. i pop the hood and try to determine what's wrong with the car and i'm really not too adept with cars altho i'm always willing to learn..
so i call my friend and he wakes up, and comes down there, gets me, and we head to Walmart to get a flashlight, a funnel, some oil, and some coolant (seeing as how lack of fluids cause most car problems). we get back, fill it up, and it's still overheating..so not only do i have a non-working car, but i'm also stuck in the middle of TN (and i live in FL) with a friend that i'd rather not stay with due to certain circumstances.
so we head back to his place and i crash. i wake up, call up AAA and ask them for help. they tell me i have to be with the car in order to recieve help...and of course, the car is miles away and i don't know the address because i'm not from TN and i'm staying somewhere other than where it broke down.
so i ask my friend's roomate if he can take me to it, after searching through Google Earth to find exactly where it was..
and we get there..
and it's gone..
FUCK.

he guesses that it probably got impounded and he was right. $122 later (overdrafted i might add) and i'm stranded with a barely working car at some gas station near the industrial part of Nashville. my friend's roomate had to go to work.
the car was actually fine, because after i turned it on again, the temperature steadily went down and stayed at normal levels..and so i made my way to Indy and the rest of my trip.

drawn out and complicated, but i consider that whole fiasco quite a fuckup, no?

icing on the cake was that weeks later, back in FL, as i was preparing to go to VA for Thanksgiving, i head over to Walmart to get an oil change and whaddya know..my car was 6 quarts over the normal level of oil.
turns out all the car needed was coolant, and some time to work through the shock of going from zero-fluids to full-fluids.

all in all, i could've really fucked up my car, and i'm sure this'll turn up sometime later in the life of my vehicle.

what a vacation;)

This is why I should not be allowed to do anything when I'm sick. [Dec. 8th, 2007|06:51 pm]

So after my merry experience of being fingerprinted this morning (nothing serious- I need it to student teach next semester), I went home for a bit, found out I was running a nasty fever, and decided to wait it out before I headed back up to school. As soon as I'm feeling good again, I was off! -without my purse.

I didn't notice it until an hour later, and had to turn around and drive back home to get it.

In short, I fail.

Shopping List [Dec. 7th, 2007|02:30 pm]

I drive to "my" Wegmans last night, around 8 pm, before really eating any dinner, to shop for our big dinner party on Saturday night. Get into the produce area and realize that I left the stupid shopping list on the kitchen counter. Can't get Harry on the cell after several attempts, and so I decide to go back home. He calls just as I'm trying to leave the parking lot, and decides to read me the list on the phone. I have to do a U-turn to get back into the parking lot, pissing off a few people to do it. I don't normally do that, but I was hungry and really really cranky becuase I did such stupid thing like forget the list that I just wrote. Last week, I forgot my wallet and had to go back home to pick it up.

Meh.

I stepped in the glue "mousetrap" that I set for the second time in 2 months. I keep forgetting where I placed it when I'm in a hurry. My crocs are all sticky now, I washed them and set them on the porch to dry.

R.I. P. work uniform [Dec. 6th, 2007|01:54 pm]

Last night at work I went to go to the bathroom...and saw that whoever was in there last left a huge mess of it all. So I had to clean it.

I go get the toilet bowl cleaner, which I am unaware has a leak in it. I am dripping this thick crap all over the floor. As I am inside the bathroom cleaning the toilet, I hear a slip and crash outside followed by a "WHAT THE FUCK?!?" from my co manager. I go to check it out, and slip on the shit on the floor, which sends me into the baby diaper changing station. Ow.

I get up and notice I got some of the cleaner on my uniform. I would not be pissed if it was not for the fact the clearer is bleach based. I get up to open the door, and do not realize one of my shirt button is caught on the baby changing station.

Long story short, I walk out of the bathroom like Bill Bixby in torn up clothes after turning into The Hulk. My work uniform is destroyed. Not only am I angry and embarrassed by the fact that I did not know about the leak and made my co manager injure herself on accident, but I am also embarrassed that I am emerging from the men's room with wet pants and a torn up work shirt.

How was YOUR day?

I really wanted that cheese.

Sharp cheddar. Yum yum.

Couldn't find a good knife. Then I hit paydirt with a huge serrated knife in the back of the drawer.

Slice slice away.

Serrated my finger while I was at it.

Never knew that a finger would have the same consistency of cheese while slicing.

So, today on my lunch break, I drove over to Micro center. It's about a 15 minute drive from my office... Well, according to my gas gauge, I had enough to get from my office, to the store, back to my office, and part way home before I needed to fill up...

Apparently it was wrong. I got about 1/4 of the way back from Microcenter.. *sputter* *cough* *sputter* and the car was coasting. I coasted as far as I could from the intersection as I could, then got out of the car, and started pushing.

You'd think that with as much traffic as there was on the road, that someone would have helped me push the car to the gas station about 4 blocks away. No. In fact, it was actually more useful for them to honk at me while driving past me.

Yes, I let my car run out of gas. No, I did not realize it was running out of gas. Yes, I'm a fucking moron for letting it happen.

So, I fill up with gas... 11.9 gallons ... $35.00.

I have a 12 gallon tank.

fumes, I'm tellin' ya. Fumes.

I finally got into the office 1/2 hour late.
