Back in May, quietcontrary and phantomsangel posted some delightful drabbles based on LJ moods. These are my contributions, taking the last five moods. Ratings generally gen, some mild hints of slash.

| Challenge #99 |
[09 Jul 2006|04:54pm] |
Title: Murder in Muzillac Author: Whistlejacket Rating: G Word Count: 100 Rum to: The Marquis de Muzillac
Muzillac, 1762
***
"They're all dead," said Madame Faure, as she put the soup on the table, "Madman. He killed them with a rusty old sword, then slashed his own throat with a hunting knife." She brought the bread. "Only the younger son is still alive." She put down the cheese, laid the knife beside it. "The nuns have him. He is not expected to live. Heh. Vive le Marquis."
Gil Faure stared at his soup. He felt sick. He didn't think he would be able to eat anything.
"Good riddance to bad rubbish," his mother said. "Evil blood. The Moncountants are cursed."

Title: Killing the Other Rating: Gen Word count: 100 Pairings or characters involved: Capt. Hammond Character to give rum to: Major Cotard
He is a sleeper. A man who acts one part while waiting to play another.
What a sleeper must do. Learn to talk like the enemy, think like him, pass for him.
What happens to a sleeper. To be good at what he is, he must also become good at what he pretends to be. He can throw the odd spanner in the works – like baulking the career of a promising officer. But there is no pretence about his care for his ship; how could there be?
Like all sleepers, he has become two people. Soon he must kill one.

Title: A Matter of Perspective Rating: G (I guess...) Characters: Horatio (who else? *rolleyes*) Rum to: Horatio, the easy drunk...as ever.
****
He had killed before…had seen men fall after he had leveled his pistol at them, even cut them down with his sword. That was war; this was different.
Oh, they excused him. They were perfectly willing to blame the wretched victim and quick to offer words of comfort. Not a soul considered that it had all been a terrible mistake. The man had wanted to die, they repeated as if he had deserved his fate. They could not comprehend that Hornblower had not intended to oblige. But they had not pulled the trigger. Bunting’s blood was not on their hands.

Title: A justified murder Rating: Gen. Word count: 100 Characters involved: Archie and his nemesis Character to give rum to: Bowles
He had to die, it was as simple as that. He had made Archie's life a misery these past two years on Justinian. Rummaging among the dunnage, taking that which was not his. Slipping in to Kennedy's hammock, pinching and biting, leaving nasty marks of nail and tooth - animal signs of an animal personality. Catching Archie at quiet moments, pulling hair, stealing kisses. It was easy in the end, a sharp knife, a slit across the throat, the disposal of the body overboard on a dark, storm tossed night. Hether distraught afterwards, wailing, "Where's my poor squirrel monkey gone?"

[20 Jun 2006|01:40am] |
Hiya! Remember me? Remember this place? I apologize for the lack of challenges and my horribly modding. However, I'm back, and I hope to keep up better. I hope see lots of great drabbles.
Challenge #99: Murder. Integrate murder into you drabble in some way.
(Why, yes! I was listening to Sweeny Todd while coming up with a challenge!)
Good luck and have fun!

In which phantomsangel and quietcontrary drabble |
[18 May 2006|03:54pm] |
quietcontrary: Two months ago, phantomsangel and I had the brilliant idea of writing the 132 LJ moods as drabbles in the Hornblower fandom. Then we realised that 132 drabbles is a lot and we're kind of out of breath after 42 of them *g*
phantomsangel: We wrote these mostly late at night (well, for me) and can neither confirm nor deny being under the influence of any substances whilst writing. Please be kind, as writing 143 (Whatever) odd drabbles does odd things to the mind.
So - we present drabbles Accomplished through to Ecstatic. Ratings G through to R; het, gen and slash.
Drabbles this way!
(If you'd like to comment on an individual drabble, feel free to do so as a reply to the drabble itself. That way it keeps things nice and tidy and pretty!)
(Also, if you'd like to take up part of the A-Z of Hornblower drabbles, or are vaguely interested or something, leave a comment here!)

Title: The Brave Lieutenants Rating: Gen Word count: 100 (if you cheat and include the introduction). Characters involved: The 'three amigos' from Retribution Character to give rum to: Bracegirdle
In the style of the immortal William Topaz McGonagall, Scottish poet extraordinaire.
Twas in the bonny Caribbean blue Late in the year one or some have the opinion maybe early in the year two That three naval lieutenants mightily brave Did risk their necks and also the likelihood of an early grave By taking a bold leap as if They were mermen diving from an exceedingly high and very rugged cliff And it is heard tell that one may have needed a push Though tis not known if it was saucy Kennedy, gallant Hornblower or noble and heroic Billy Bush.

| Challenge #98 |
[01 May 2006|06:28pm] |
Thank you to scaryfangirl and quietcontrary for posting for the last challenge! Thanks to their efforts, Bush and Hornblower are our drunken sailors of the week. And *cough* we know how that usually turns out.
Challenge #98: I used this challenge about a year ago, but it went over so well I decided to use it again. Write a drabble(s) in the style of any well-known author or poet.
Good luck and have fun!

| Challenge #97 New Beginnings - Parting |
[26 Apr 2006|04:34pm] |
Title: Parting Words: 100 Rum: Bush, but because he's a gentleman, I'm sure he'll share it with Maria this time.
---
Horatio had left her for the Lydia. He had been patient and kind to the last and Maria had held her tears in check because she knew they upset him. It got easier with practice, keeping her grief controlled, and Maria was a sensible woman. Horatio would come back to her in a few months, or in a year, and in the meantime there would be his letters to keep her company. It had to be enough.
Maria squared her shoulders and pushed open the door. Inside, there was nothing but musty, still air and the ghost of children's footsteps.

| Challenge #97- "New beginnings" |
[21 Apr 2006|04:35pm] |
Rating: G Word Count: 100 Characters involved: Horatio/Barbara Rum to: Horatio (He's an easy drunk.)
*******
“And how are you this day, Sir Horatio…?” she asked, laughing merrily at the slight groan he gave at the sound of his new title coupled with his Christian name.
“I am well enough, my dear wife.”
“Well enough,” she scoffed playfully. “You should be very well today!”
“Yes,” His dark eyes were soft, his smile tender. Twice married, but a besotted groom nonetheless. He brought her hand to his lips with a motion so fluid and natural it seemed impossible that it was only the second time he had ever kissed it that way. “I am very well today.”
