Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R [Deluxe Edition 2010] DOWNLOAD Via All Music: (This album) is mellower, trippier, and more arranged than its predecessor, making its point through warm fuzz-guitar tones, ethereal harmonies, vibraphones, horns, and even the odd steel drum. That might alienate listeners who have come to expect a crunchier guitar attack, but even though it's not really aggro, R is still far heavier than the garage punk and grunge that inform much of the record. It's still got the vaunted California-desert vibes of Kyuss, but it evokes a more relaxed, spacious, twilight feel, as opposed to a high-noon meltdown.

I know it's not genuine grunge, but it still takes me back to those times. Probably the best alternative ballad of the 90's

Alice in Chains come second place in this top of songs from 2009. They are here with the title track from Black Gives Way to Blue. And it's no wonder, it's by far the best song of this year (it's the one that got me listening to AIC)

Nirvana - Bleach [2009 Deluxe Edition] Quality: VBR Download: hxxp://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ymwgmolm3zl
When it first emerged 20 years ago, Nirvana's debut album, Bleach, represented an equally heretical notion to some indie aesthetes: Flipper-grade sludge-punk molded into Beatles-schooled pop schematics. Original producer Jack Endino's new remastering job gives Bleach a much-needed boost in fidelity, but there's an intrinsic, primordial murkiness to this album that can't be polished-- while Axl was welcoming the masses into the Sunset Strip jungle, Nirvana dragged the Sub Pop set into the bleak, chilly backwoods from which they came. Green River - Dry As A Bone/Rehab Doll [Sub Pop 1990] Quality: VBR Download: hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?twy32ztjjqi (change xx to tt)
Collecting Green River's second and third releases, plus three rare tracks, Dry As a Bone/Rehab Doll is a near-definitive look at the Seattle band that, along with the Melvins and Soundgarden, virtually invented grunge. Out of all the bands that branched out from the Green River family tree, the originals sound most like Mudhoney upon first listen. That's due both to their punky aggression and the fact that Mark Arm's signature sneer is firmly in place. However, the differences reveal themselves rather quickly. Where Mudhoney was sort of the Ramones of grunge — their best material consisting of simple, catchy, highly similar garage rockers — Green River's instrumental attack was much more intricate and complex. That's because it was anchored by the inseparable team of guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament, whose work here mixes the swagger of '70s hard rock (particularly Aerosmith) and the ferocity of hardcore punk. Melody and hooks aren't exactly Green River's strong point; their music gets over on straight-from-the-gutter attitude, kicking up a filthy, distorted racket punctuated by Arm's nauseous moan. Since Dry As a Bone/Rehab Doll is more energetic and less murky than many proto-grunge artifacts, it's arguably the most effective and enduring building block in the music's early evolution. | NIRVANA Sliver: The Best of the Box [2005] |

Nirvana - Sliver: The Best Of The Box [2005] Quality: 320k (CD Rip) Download: hxxp://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ojn3zwlwzmg
Appearing a year after the long-awaited three-disc With the Lights Out, which was supposed to be a clearinghouse for all existing Nirvana demos and rarities, Sliver: The Best of the Box is a single-disc compilation of highlights from that set. Of course, a comp like this needs to have collector bait in order to guarantee interest from the die-hard fans, so in addition to 19 previously released cuts, this has three previously unreleased tracks, most noteworthy being the 1985 demo of "Spank Thru," recorded when Kurt Cobain's band was called Fecal Matter. Most of the major songs from With the Lights Out are here, but not all of them. What's missing are outtakes like "Verse Chorus Verse" (a different song than "Sappy"), B-sides like "Curmudgeon," and non-LP cuts like "I Hate Myself and I Want to Die." While it's understandable that a weird novelty like "Beans" wouldn't make the cut, the absence of these three cuts mean this comp does fall short of its billing as being "The Best of the Box," and it also makes it of less interest to fans who just want all the truly noteworthy cuts from the box. That said, this does have such great items as the outtake "Old Age," the non-LP single "Oh the Guilt," and a demo of Leadbelly's "Ain't It a Shame," plus acoustic demos of Cobain's last two songs, "Do Re Mi" and "You Know You're Right," which is enough to satisfy the curiosity of most listeners.(Source: Allmusic.com) |

| [ | mood |
| | artistic | ] | Looking for something to shine some light on this. I've been rummaging around on the net and by accident, found some rather obscure rock from the Seattle area that was made and released around the grunge era. I found quite a few bands that I've not heard of before and am having some trouble finding info about (not to mention their singles).
Here's what I've found so far: Motorhoney (a Fastbacks side project) Hammerbox Big Satan Inc. The Purdins The Derelicts
Most of these bands were featured on the album "Another Damned Seattle Compilation" however, I'm having one hell of a time tracking down their singles or finding out any information about them.
Anyone out there know anything about these groups or any other band that escaped exposure? I'm trying to get a collection going of the underground sound. |
