Suddenly got several scam notifications, are there any way to turn off mention in repos that I am not belong to? #162922
Select Topic AreaQuestion BodyIt is annoying. Those are new GitHub accounts, I can foresee I will keep receiving these notifications.

same spam also in 2026. I totally disable all notification from Participating. It should be an option to receive notifications and let you mention only from repos that you are following/starred and so on. |
Hi @louislam, gitHub doesnât currently let you disable @mentions or stop others from tagging you directly â even if youâre not watching, starring, or contributing to the repo.
What you can do:
Restrict notifications:
Head to [GitHub Notification Settings](https://github.com/settings/notifications) and limit it to âParticipating and @mentions onlyâ. It wonât stop people from tagging you, but it reduces the noise.
Mute or block the repository:
Open the repo â hit âUnwatchâ or âMuteâ if youâre getting dragged into unwanted threads.
Report spam:
If itâs clearly mass-mention spam (like the crypto airdrop stuff), report the user or repo via [GitHub Abuse Report](https://github.com/contactâĶ
