New Metric Type to Handle Additional Demand Sources #174
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
There is currently no way to aggregate event data in Aggregate, metric_types. Although you could argue, sessions represent events, and you can aggregate sessions, not all events "fit" into sessions. Some examples includes detecting vehicles with ALPR, or the event of providing a citation.
Describe the solution you'd like
Add an additional metric_type called "total_events" which aggregates the total number of events in a given hour. This would typically be summed by a specific event_type.
Is this a breaking change
No, not breaking
Impacted Spec
For which spec is this feature being requested?
Metrics
Describe alternatives you've considered
Up until now we have taken these events as sessions and included these aggregates in total_sessions, but this is not technically correct and is misleading.
Additional context
This builds on Issue #173 that there is not a current solution on representing non parking and loading curb events in CDS.
We will be reviewing this at tomorrow's public Curb Working Group meeting. However we won't have much time to discuss, so leave your comments and suggestions here as general or inline comments to spark changes before the CDS 1.1 release is made.
