fix: hold hyprland-guiutils with the compatible graphics stack - #268
Omarchy Update can fail when a newer hyprland-guiutils requires a libhyprtoolkit.so ABI that the guest's held Hyprtoolkit does not provide. Hold hyprland-guiutils with the compatible graphics stack in the factory configuration and the existing-guest repair tool.
Existing guests must explicitly run the updated repair tool; replacing the Mac app does not apply these holds. The repair updates both the saved and active pacman configurations so the hold survives Omarchy's configuration refresh. Package versions, pins, and checksums are unchanged.
Focused repair and builder tests: 17 passed. The new older-guest regression failed before the fix and passed afterward; it covers both configuration files, preservation of custom holds, refresh restoration, and repeat repair.
Full make test: passed, including 246 guest unit tests, guest/source contracts, 349 Swift tests in 78 suites, host shell/storage tests, and 16 resize tests. The existing skipped HVF test remains unverified. The run uses DEVELOPER_DIR=/Applications/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/Developer and process-local Git configuration disabling commit/tag signing for disposable test fixtures; the initial attempt stopped when a fixture commit invoked an interactive signer.
git diff --check: passed.
DEVELOPER_DIR=/Applications/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/Developer make guest: attempted; blocked while rebuilding the existing ABI pins because ARM mirrors returned HTTP 404 for fribidi-1.0.16-2-aarch64.pkg.tar.xz. No factory image was completed.
Live guest update, reboot, and desktop validation remain unverified. Draft pending that validation and a successful guest build.
I guess this is a bit of a "drive by" comment, but wanted to share that I ran into the issue this PR addresses, and I think this PR looks correct (I'm not a previous contributor to this repo at all; just a user trying out Omarchy through this app).
I'm running MacOS 15.7.9 with Try Omarchy Version 0.4.0 (5). After getting an error with omarchy update I pasted the error message into an AI agent, and the resulting output said that adding hyprtoolkit hyprland-guiutils to the IgnorePkg line in /etc/pacman.conf inside the VM was the fix. I did so and then omarchy update worked for me. This PR looks like a comprehensive fix with tests, but in case other folks are stuck, the manual fix is pretty simple in a running Omarchy VM.
