CopyQ is hogging one CPU core on Gnome 50.3 (Wayland) #3677
Description
Describe the bug
After unclear amount of time CopyQ starts to take 100% of one core usually right after start. To me it looks like some thread hangs and becomes zombie. The only solution is to exit CopyQ.
To Reproduce
Nothing special. I have an extension appIndicator and KstatusNotifierItem to support CopyQ running in the as icon in the top bar. CopyQ is started right after login.
Expected behavior
CopyQ to take only thread/core when needed.

It could be an issue with DBus or KGuiAddons which handles clipboard on Wayland, thought I remember the protocol is not available in GNOME, so instead it should use an extra add-on installed with the app (#3434).

Thank you for your answer. I have the add-on installed, but it is deactivated with an error: "It is incompatible with 50.3/50.4 gnome version".
What I find interesting is that this does not consume the thread every time. Sometimes it takes time before it actually starts doing it.

It occurred to me today. Could it be connected to libvirt? How can I debug that?
I can't reopen the issue. Should I create a new one?

I believe I'm experiencing a similar situation. After noticing momentary slowdowns during light tasks, I checked the system monitor and found that CopyQ was hogging one of the cores (I only have four). Closing it restored the computer to its normal performance. I'm using Linux Mint Cinnamon.

I'm on the same setup (Ubuntu, GNOME on Wayland) and can try to reproduce this if that would help.
Following your finding that the client fails to register (
Failed to register GNOME clipboard client: "" - ""), I can check whether the busy core tracks that failure: whether it spins only when the extension is missing or disabled, and where the retry sits when it does. I'd attach debug logs and a profile rather than a guess.Let me know if that's useful and I'll report back with what I find.

Maybe the extension is failing start on GNOME 50. Can anyone check?
There are tests for the extension, but they run on older version (46 I think that can be installed on the current ubuntu-latest github image).

I can't check GNOME 50, sorry: this machine is GNOME Shell 42.9 on Ubuntu 22.04, and metadata.json declares shell-version 45 to 50, so the extension path isn't active here at all. I should have said that earlier.
Two things that don't need GNOME 50 though. "50" is already in that list, so nothing gates the extension on the version check, and a failing start is more likely in the extension's own init or in taking the D-Bus name. And the spin is reported where the extension isn't involved: CsarBr sees it on Linux Mint Cinnamon, and tukanos still saw it after the extension was working. That points at the busy core and the registration failure being two separate problems.
What I can test here is the path without the extension, which is what the Cinnamon report exercises. Happy to reproduce that on this setup and profile where the loop sits, and come back with logs. Say the word if that's useful.

On GNOME/Wayland the extension is essential, otherwise clipboard monitoring won't work.
The app needs to be properly installed for the extension to work. Not sure if there were other changes between the GNOME versions that make the extension fail.
