Crash report (non-fatal) when searching for invalid regex phrase #1038

Closed

Description

@bblommers

Describe the bug
A crash pop up shows with the following error:

terminator crashed with gi.repository.GLib.GError in do_search(): g-regex-error-quark: Error while compiling regular expression Target( at char 7: missing terminating ) (114)

Note that the program continues to run/behave well if you dismiss the error report, so this is not a fatal crash.

To Reproduce

Search for Target( - or any other invalid regex.

Expected behavior
No error report 🙂

I suppose there are several ways to handle this scenario:

  • Do nothing until the input is valid
  • Explicitly tell the user that the input is wrong/invalid
  • Parse non-valid regexes as plain text (i.e.: Target( becomes Target\( )
