quick terminal not properly resizing between monitors #8713
Issue DescriptionI have 3 display in my setup:
They all have different resolutions When I open the quick terminal for the first time in one of them, it will show properly. But, if I go to another monitor and use the quick terminal again, it ll have the size of the 1st monitor it opened. So, if it was in the small or narrow one, it ll not take the full horizontal space. If it was the wider one, it ll clip both left and right corners (which means the prompt is not even visible). Expected BehaviorThe quick terminal would resize to the appropriate display resolution Actual BehaviorThe quick terminal keeps always the same size as the first display it was opened Reproduction Steps

That's totally a bad regression 😞 E.g. I'm switching rather frequently btw macbook native and external monitor (depending where I work), and always need to restart ghostty (after 1.2.0), especially on macbook, because quick terminal extends outsize the visible window, and nothing can be done (neither I mean I'm even fine for a temporary solution, but can't find anything... |
osascript
-e 'tell application "System Events" to tell process "Ghostty" to set position of front window to {0, 0}'
-e 'tell application "System Events" to tell process "Ghostty" to set size of front window to {1920, 400}'Ok, this ^^^ works as a temporary workaround - just need correct X,Y for each display and a trigger. What is good fro this workaround, is that Ghostty remembers the last resize from AppleScript (and not from config), so this needs to be run only once per display switch. |
#!/bin/sh
osascript -e '''
tell application "System Events"
tell application "Finder"
set desktopBounds to bounds of window of desktop
set desktopWidth to item 3 of desktopBounds
end tell
tell process "Ghostty"
set windowSize to size of front window
set ghosttyWidth to item 1 of windowSize
end tell
if desktopWidth is not equal to ghosttyWidth then
-- log "Resizing Ghostty to desktop width"
tell process "Ghostty"
set position of front window to {0, 0}
set size of front window to {desktopWidth, 500}
end tell
else
-- log "Ghostty already at desktop width"
end if
end tell
'''This is my final version, I've attached it as a second action on Karabiner key which I use for quick-terminal, and it executes just after quick-teraminal window appears. |

happened again when disconnected external monitor. When connected it gets resized correctly again.
Should I create a new issue for this @mitchellh ? |

Fixed by #8796, will be in 1.2.1
