I would like to fix the crash described in #10252.

Why do you want to make this change?

I came across this behavior originally when helping contribute to Electron. I came across a similar bug in their issue tracker (electron/electron#49819). I determined that it was the same underlying bug and went to great lengths (and many conversations with AI) to understand it and all the surrounding context of what the best approach should be. I already have a branch, but I won't link it here as to distract from the goal of this discussion (which is a simple vouch request).
