Strange draggable bar with 3 dots

[Saeverix]

Hey there. I recently switched to the tip version for the scrollbar functionality.
But I now noticed this weird draggable bar with 3 dots below the titlebar. When click-dragging from there, a thumbnail of the window appears.

Is there a way I can disable this bar in the configuration? I have searched the Ghostty.Config.swift file, but I could not find any related new settings.

My current config:

theme = catppuccin-mocha.conf
macos-titlebar-proxy-icon = hidden
quit-after-last-window-closed = true
window-height = 40
window-width = 140
window-padding-x = 8
window-padding-y = 8
font-family = "JetBrainsMono Nerd Font Mono"

that is the split drag handle it lets you reorder splits with the mouse

#10108
this has ideas on disabling it / delaying the popup.

I've also seen people asking to make it a keybind to toggle them showing at all but that might have only been on the discord

Just to try to keep things linked up, I proposed a less intrusive version of this grab bar that only shows on hover (and hides on typing) and never overlays the text. #10280

I also might be the person that tested the "hold command to display the drag bars". Here's the video of that version. I don't like it because I found I press command a lot for other reasons, and so having this bar flash into visibility every time was really annoying. There may be a middle ground that works though.

Another idea, why not remove the bar and then make it work as follows:

• Press and hold a modifier on your keyboard (nothing happens visually)
• When you move your mouse over a terminal area, the cursor changes to a "drag" icon
• You can then freely move your split terminals by dragging, as long as you hold down the modifier key

[martinemde]

One of the problems with that is cmd+click makes the mouse turn to a pointer hand over links.

Holding option while dragging has a custom behavior as well in mac os which might interfere.

We harm the discoverability of this if we make it too hard to see or find, though reducing confusion is also important. It could show a tooltip on hovering the ... grab bar like "drag to rearrange".

[Saeverix]

It could also be CTRL, OPTION, or SHIFT instead of CMD. Or maybe even be configurable.

As for “discoverability,” I don’t think much changes. The current grab bar was also described by me as a “strange draggable bar,” since it makes no sense unless you already know what it’s for.

Also, Ghostty in its current state isn’t built for the average terminal user, since all settings have to be changed using a config file.
I use terminals on a daily basis, but I only just discovered that Ghostty has a “split terminal” function. Simply because there are no visible UI elements that indicate it exists.

the just merged #10280 is a fantastic solution. It's a huge improvement.
