Offline Mode #453

Closed

Description

@renderd2u

If all the necessary info is present in the crush config, there should not be any need for online connectivity to https://catwalk.charm.sh/ and https://github.com/charmbracelet/catwalk as local config has everything it needs.

This could become a fully offline system when paired with something like ollama.

    Agreed: Crush should be capable of working fully offline. There's also the case where Catwalk can't be reached, so we'll also want to compile in default providers at runtime, probably with an option to import new providers via the CLI.

    I had a related issue at work where we have a very restrictive firewall making the catwalk service unreachable. I have a custom provider config so I shouldn't have a fetch a list of providers.

    The workaround for this is to just put [{}] into $XDG_DATA_HOME/crush/providers.json.
    But I've opened a PR to make access to the catwalk service optional if a custom provider config is provided.

    Alright, provider auto-updates can now be disabled in thew new Crush v0.8.0. Details are in the README.

    Enjoy, and let us know if you have any questions!
