Bug description
PrintStream does not properly report failure to write messages.
- Use an OutputStream or OutputStreamWriter instead everywhere inside this class
- Deprecate getPrintStream
- Have getPrintStream return a PrintStream wrapped around the output stream
- Add getOutputStream method.
- Replace usages of getPrintStream in this plugin with getOutputStream

Hi, I’d like to work on this issue as a Java contribution. I’m planning to add an OutputStream-based API while keeping the existing PrintStream API compatible, update internal usages, and add regression tests for write failures. Is this issue still available to work on, and is this approach acceptable?
