[BUG] Desktop: silent auto-update restart stops every local session, and Remote Control stays down until someone opens the app on the Mac #105671
I run several local Code-tab sessions on a Mac mini with Remote Control on, and work on them from the Claude iOS app while I'm away. Today the desktop app downloaded an update and silently restarted itself after the idle timeout. Every local session was stopped for the restart and none of them came back on Remote Control. From my phone all sessions were gone for about 16 hours, until I opened the app on the Mac and the sessions spawned again.
Timeline (KST, from ~/Library/Logs/Claude/main.log and remote-control.log)
06:30:47 [updater] Found an update, downloading
06:31:05 [updater] Update downloaded and ready to install { releaseName: 'Claude 4.29.0' }
06:41:35 [stealth-update] Triggering stealth update after idle timeout
06:41:35 [CCD] Stopping 10 active session(s) on quit
06:41:35 quit: 0 attached session(s) queued for unarchive, 0 parked for the next launch (remote-control.log)
06:41:41 [updater] Previous update install succeeded (3.6556.2 -> 4.29.0)
06:41:43 state pending → off trigger=gate intent=default ... (remote-control.log)
-- no [remote-control] bridge_state lines at all after this --
22:29:11 [remote-control] bridge_state: "ready" (only after I opened the app on the Mac)
The same silent restart happened 5 more times in the previous 8 days (Oct 20, Oct 22 twice, Oct 23 twice), and Remote Control dropped the same way.
Expected
Sessions that had Remote Control on before an automatic update restart come back on Remote Control after the relaunch, without anyone touching the Mac. Failing that: don't silently restart while Remote Control sessions are connected, or let me choose when updates install.
Why it matters
The idle timeout fires exactly when I'm away from the Mac, which is when I rely on Remote Control. There is no setting to turn off or schedule automatic updates and nothing on the phone says it happened, so I can't tell when it will hit.
Environment
Claude desktop 3.6556.2 → 4.29.0 (automatic update), macOS 27.0.1, Mac mini (Apple silicon)
