I am trying some new recipes for the next few weeks.
I am finding that a measuring cup is my best friend for weight and cal management!
Invest in a set (Dollar general, wal-mart, target...wherever!) and follow serving sizes! Seriously, I think I am already cutting 200/300 un-needed cals out of my diet because I have been "eyeing it" with amounts for so long. I also learned that I get my total water needs by just drinking out of my massive water bottle (which is good to know). :) A cup = 8 oz.
I also invested
in this nice 90 day food/fitness journal from B&N bookstore and am writing down amounts and calories per amount and also the TIMES I eat so I do not go 4 hours without eating (unless I'm snoozin).
I found I had about 1465 calories yesterday and have calorie goals for each day to help maintain or decrease my weight. It feels really accomplishing to have all of this down on paper. I am also keeping tabs on my costs and how much food I use...like an inventory, to make the most for my buck and try to save some money at the same time. Just because I want to be healthy does not mean I should not eat at all. :P
You can do ALL of this without exercise...watching what you eat, how much, and how often WILL impact your body weight. So if you are in the "Starting phase" of your life change, and want to do something that helps but doesn't require a lot of extra time - just a bit of motivation and focus - get some measuring cups, a notebook/journal/whatever to write down everything and get to know the nutrition labels of what you eat. :)

I need to work on my chopping and dicing skills. lol.
Speaking of
Anyone have any tips on dicing a HAAS avocado without making myself look like I slaughtered a green blooded monster! :P
Ingredients for my yummy cal cutting salad:
3 cup chopped Romain lettuce - 24 cal
1 chopped small tomato - 12 cal
1 chopped Granny smith apple - 95 cal
3 oz of deli chicken breast - 75 cal
1 tablespoons of olive oil - 119 cal
2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar - 10 cal
4 whole wheat crackers - 23 cal
Combine all of it together. :) I used the wheat crackers as a crouton...so they were sprinkled on top. The tart of the apple combined with the balsamic vinegar really is a nice taste and compliments each other well.
For an additional 100 cal I toss it in a whole wheat flat bread and made it a wrap. :) I had so much salad left over- I ate it in a wrap for dinner to mix it up a bit. I picked a wheat wrap with not a lot of cals in it...so watch those labels!
Enjoy and get some measuring cups!!
