Solstices are meant to be celebrated with a good time, no?
I was in Xochicalco for the solstice... if any of you know this is the pyramid where the sun passes directly over a small opening in the roof of the pyramid only on the solstice. One of the first observatories.
How cool. Right?
The last important solstice was in Stonehenge.
Love ya hunny
BTW, I've completed the triangle of power... Tepoztlan, Teotihuacan, Xochicalco.
I've eaten crickets.
The sickness comes in and out. Today I am sick again. I'm learning to deal. Yesterday I went to the circus. Freaking amazing! Saturday I'm going to puebla. Friday after school I'm hitting the botanical and homeopathic garden. Tonight if I feel a bit better I'm off to see mexican wrestling, you know lucha libres. The ones in the funny little masks. :)
I got a cool package from Dave. I've got awesome photos. I just don't have too much time or reliable internet service to upload them.
love you guys.
I know it's been a while. It's life here... I get up at 7, shower, beautify, eat, and I go to school. I get out of school at 5pm, then I have homework. I also have to study because homework does not teach you everything. *shrug*
I've also been really sick this past week. I got antibiotics last thursday, I finished them on monday and then on tuesday I spent the day puking my guts out all afternoon. Incredible trip here in Mexico! I've been sick for the better part of 3 weeks.
I've also been to orphanages, the public hospital (as a visitor not a patient), and tomorrow I go to the old folks home. I went to tepoztlan again this past weekend but I did not climb the mountain. I just kinda strolled around and wandered upon a huge market. It's like 8x10 city blocks of just open air market. Beautiful things. I also ate a frozen banana covered in chocolate and rolled in sprinkles.
This weekend we are going to mexico city and also tepoztlan. I know this is going to be my third trip to tepoztlan but it's beautiful.
Alright... I'm going to go take the bus to the center of town because I don't really want to study anymore.
So yeah partial update...
Friday I spent the afternoon at an orphanage in town
Saturday I climbed a mountain. (no, seriously!)
Sunday I spent all day at an orphanage.
Monday-Thurs class.... Wednesday night I went out to a bar, had half of a negro modelo bought for me by Frenchie. Frenchie is this amazingly beautiful Canadian guy named Martin. He's a journalism professor at a private french university. Wow, he's cute. The band at the bar was amazing, so many people from school.
Today I saw the Dr. at school. I have to take antibiotics for 5 days as my stomach problem did not seem to go away. This afternoon I had a presentation in my social work class about alcoholism and drug abuse among latino juvenile offenders. Pretty interesting stuff. I also went to the zocalo, which is like the little town square in our neighborhood. Kinda fun, not much there.
Tomorrow I finish up spanish one. Saturday we are having a huge baptism party, sunday I'm probably going to go bowling or go to the huge market.
Miss you guys.
Today was a busy busy day and I didn't wear enough sunscreen. Three tests today, all went well I think. Social work class was rocking today. We walked for about 20 minutes up the side of a mountain to an orphanage. Once we got there we talked with the kids. We brought juice and chips and balls. We did the chicken dance and the hokey pokey. We played soccer and duck duck goose. I took pics of the girls I talked with and then they took pics with my camera. I wore my bug bracelet that Dave bought me for chanukah and one little mildly autistic boy tried to bite it, then when he realized it was plastic he bit me. The other kids were thrilled that it glowed in the dark. I was starting to feel the sun so I took out my can of sunscreen and sprayed some on and that drew a crowd of kids that wanted to know why I had so many freckles. One other little kid started picking at my freckles like I had fleas. The others laughed. It really was a great day.
After the orphanage Suko and I went to Costco. Ahhh air conditioning. It was awesome! Costco in Mexico has so many cool things that we don't have in the states. I bought strawberries, tomatoes ( i really needed them, REALLY), juice boxes, water bottles, and some other stuff. I also bought this bag of the biggest marshmellows I have EVER seen. They are like 3 inches high and 2 inches across. When I got home my mexi-mom stuck a few on these weird forks and roasted them on the gas stove.
Tomorrow I am riding a chicken bus to tepoztlan. There is another pyramid and a huge market. Sunday we are going to another orphanage about an hour or so away. I signed up to help make sandwiches sunday morning before the trip. *woo who* 100 pbj's and 100 turkey ham and cheese. I also get to stuff 16 or so pinatas.
Oh yeah... tonight we are getting another chick. Then in a week or so we're getting two more girls. Holy hell 6 girls, one mom, one dad, and a little doggie named tooluse. Seriously our house is going to be crazy with estrogen. Talk about wild.
Alright... my stomach is better but not my lower digestive system. *sigh* Whatever.
Went to a party after school today. Wow.... rich part of Cuernavaca. The chef was also a plastic surgeon trained at Harvard. I also met a neurobiologist who studies parkinsons and has written a few huge articles on the brains of flys. Crazy crazy time. The wife of harvard guy owns a huge school here and blah de blah blah.... Yeah had a good time. The food was incredible. Funny note, they drank Port called "el fin del mundo" or "the end of the world" in english. Hob nob'n in Mexico.
Tomorrow I have three tests and I also have a trip to an orphanage. Saturday I have a free day and then Sunday I make a trip to a different orphanage and we spend all day working and playing with the kids. I think we get to play pinatas and soccer and go swimming. *wooo* So much fun to be had on Sunday.
It's really weird. Two people are going home. One guy is newly diagnosed psychitzophrenic and decided it was better to go home. The other chick was having massive panic attacks every time she attempted to go out and called her parents and just left. Seriously, this is starting to get a little MTV-ish. I too feel a little out of place. I have a man, I have a house, and doggies... and blah blah blah. I'm actually one of the older folks here. I don't drink and I'm not really a club kind of girl. I like the artists' market. I've bought several beautiful things there. I bought David a new mask for our house. Seriously it is awesome. I have it on the wall over my bed here.
Oh yeah, I got my first love note from Dave ever... I got a postcard in the mail and a small package with a tiny stuffed tortuga (turtle). So cute! Fills my little heart with love.
This is Suko and I at a resturante outside of teotihuacan. These were aztec dancers.
Teotihuacan is where the mexican pyramids of the sun and the moon are located. Also the place where I tasted pulke... the first step in the tequilla making process. The agave juice is only 24 hours old.
