In the martial art of judo one of the main ideas is that you use your opponent's "strengths" against them, turning it to your advantage. The correct placement of force, rather than the amount of force, can enable a much smaller and or 'weaker' person to flip and pin a much larger/'stronger' person. It does, however, take a willingness to change how you 'fight'.
So it is with language. We often seem to be afraid of words that are strong and have been used by our opponents (political) to demean and attack our views. We get into the habit of saying "no, I'm not ___ (fill in the blank)" and get into a debate over the words.
There are times when we need to say, "yes, I am ___(whatever),but here is what I mean by it"... in other words, "you can't use that word to attack me anymore, because I'm not afraid to be associated with it". For example, I am no longer upset when someone calls me a "bleeding heart".
Bleeding Heart
Verse 1 You thought you'd insulted me today By calling me a “bleeding heart”. But you don't realize That I wear it as a badge of honor
For on the Cross so long ago My Savior bled for me And in this lost world How can I do anything less?
Chorus So here's one bleeding heart Broken for a lost world Crying for peace In the midst of the calls for war
Justice comes and I know it must But the Judge stands there weeping For all deserve life All deserve love, all deserve freedom

| year's end thoughts |

Well, it's the end of 2005. There's been both good and bad, but still a better year than 2004. Elections are coming up in the fall and hopefully there'll be a "House"-cleaning, so we can get some accountability back on the national scene politically. Enough of the "one-party" control!:) It does seem that some people are waking up to reality and stepping away from the "talking points" mindset to think for themselves. Here's to many hind-bound Republicans being sent home by their constituents, and many, many weary soldiers coming home from Iraq to stay for next Christmas. Happy New Year everyone! Be safe, be hopeful, and look for pleasant surprises (they do happen, you know :>) |

Hi, I have been surfing for a while and decided to finally post. I am a "recovering Republican" - I didn't leave the party, the party left me. I see the party, and this current administration in particular, as having abandoned basic Christian principles and just doing whatever they want, justifying it all by 9-11 fears. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing, and my feelings about it all, when 9-11 happened (some insinuate that we have forgotten that!) But that event, horrendous as it was, did not change my faith,my beliefs about what is right and wrong, nor my basic principles. I still believe that God calls us to be lights in the world, showing we follow him by being different - not answering hurt by causing more hurt, not justifying our ends by our means, etc. I believe He still calls us to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". God has no place for hate, or for guilt trips, or for singling out a particular group of people for harsh treatment based on the actions of a few members (e.g. -Muslims)... I could go on and on, but there is more time for that later. I just want to end with this. - Don't give in to the emotional blackmail that this administration is trying to pull in regards to 9-11 and terrorism. It is okay to be against the war in Iraq, and at the same time support the troops by calling (and praying) for their soon safe return from that place. Thanks :) |

Take the image from this site and plaster it on every telephone/light pole in your city. We did it last weekend, most of them were gone in a few days, but we are going to put up 1000 this weekend instead of 600.
Have them wake up the next day to see how many people don't want him around! |

That the war is continued to be called just when so many atrocities are committed, and more are uncovered everyday is beyond me. That a conservative has come to this conclusion, as this columnist from Boston has is all the more telling. |

I was reading this article http://www.relevantmagazine.com/article.php?sid=5566
about Hotel Rwanda, and came across a comment link to the best book ever written on the topic of the Rwandan genocides. It's a tough read, but a good read.
"We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families : stories from Rwanda" by Philip Gourevitch
Prayerfully yours,
